One round? That's it?

I don't think they will change it back unless the ratings slip and I don't really see that happening. The red carpet thing with the Hall of Fame class and all the top talent in the draft is something I'm sure they just love doing. It wouldn't have been that bad, but I hated hearing Deion running his yap and acting like the ass he is.

It's all about the ratings. When those come out, you can get a better guess of them moving it.

However, I liked it better the other way.

I'm just trying to find something positive. I think they'll change it back for next year.

I'm not holding my breath. The NFL only did this change for money, not for the satisfaction of the fans.

Go figure...

That's f**kin' weak. It's only 8:00 PM here. Bring back the old format because this one blows!

Agreed,They should at least have it Round 1 & 2 = day one round 3 & 4 = day 2 Round 5-7 = day 3

That would be a great improvement.

I absolutely HATE having this on a weeknight. I'm a busy guy this time of year, and the weekend is the only real chance I have to sit down and watch the draft properly (chicken wings, beer, etc.) :P

Last night I had to coach my tennis team, got home at 6, went to a homeowner's meeting, and finally got home at 9 to crash on the couch without any sort of dinner while fast forwarding my tivo and trying not to fall asleep.

Absolutely miserable draft for me. Well, except for the Bengals actual pick which I LOVED.

Well guys, you might not have liked the set-up, but I think the NFL is loving this, and they will do it the same way next year.

They got prime-time publicity on a Thursday night, and doing just the 1st round gives sports talk radio more than enough to talk about on a Friday... a work day, when most people listen to the radio, rather than a Saturday morning.

Then to top it off, they get more prime time on Friday night, with plenty of high-profile players yet to be taken. The draft talk today dwarfed the NBA playoffs, and there was a ton of sports talk about the starting quality players that will be drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds tonight. Certainly far more sexy picks tonight than if they had thrown in the 2nd round last night.

Doing rounds 4-7 on Saturday is the equivalent of what they used to do on Sunday. Only diehards are going to watch that anyway, so doing the first 3 rounds on two separate prime time slots is just doing more to grow the NFL brand and make the football season last year round.

Like it or don't, I think this format is here to stay.

Well here it is Sunday evening, and nobody is posting anymore. I reckon everyone is all tuckered out from this messed up draft process that started way back on Thursday afternoon.

Thanks Roger. You're the King of f**king up a good thing ya' jacka$$! <_<

The draft format isn't going anywhere. I said it should be interesting to see where the ratings are and here you go:

First two rounds draw 3.7M viewers:

ESPN's broadcast of the NFL draft has drawn the most viewers ever.

With the first two rounds held in prime time for the first time, ESPN's three-day telecast had 3.7 million viewers, up 27 percent from 2009. It also attracted 2.85 million households, second most in draft history and up 24 percent from last year, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The most households to watch a draft on ESPN came in 2006, when 2,000 more homes than this year tuned in.

Even ratings for the third day, with Rounds 4-7, increased 10 percent to a 1.8. The final day was on Saturday this year, Sunday in 2009.

There were some things I liked about it, but overall not a fan.

I miss having a bunch of people around all weekend talking football, having a BBQ, and drinking some cold ones.

It sucked having it on work nights. Totally f*cked up everything that made it a party !!!

This.

The ratings are through the roof so it's obvious it won't be changed back, but as a draftnik posting from the west coast all I know is I lost my beloved lost weekend, and instead found myself out of step watching two primetime broadcasts that weren't actually shown in primetime, but rather...in the mid-day wasteland of 3:30 to 8:30PM.

Poop.

Out on the West coast you guys have things like mountains to climb, oceans to surf, women to see in bikinis. You know... being outdoors is actually nice - not to mention medicinal marijuana.

Here in the MidWest we have flea markets and strip malls... so in their infinite mercy, the gods chose to give us sporting events in prime time. If you hate it so much, you can trade all your cool stuff in for a strip mall at any time.

But that's exactly my point. Because while we may love it, and I do, the draft barely qualifies as an actual sporting event. And again, for many it most definately wasn't broadcast in primetime, thereby failing to qualify as either a party opportunity or as a potential multi-day rotting experience.

Frankly, I missed the rot.

Before I started rotting away here doing the draft tracking, my buddies would start EARLY in the morning with the draft day prep. This dude had butcher blocks of paper with each team's needs and then track who they drafted for every person's team that was at the party. The grill was going by 10am as were the drinks. That sh*t went all day and into the night. The best part ?? You get up the next day and do it all over again.

Yeah, I miss that !!!
