ArmyBengal
I think it's pretty telling in both what they currently have on the roster and what they want from a future TE in the draft why they didn't give up what the Broncos got for Schefler, a 5th round pick. I mean we had two 4th rounders and they didn't blink. I really think they are comfortable with what they have in Coffman and Hill for that matter as far a pass catching TE's and will be trying to shore up the blocking TE aspect of things. We have 2 Fourths....But it wasn't even the Lions 5th rounder it was the eagles so we could got him for a 5th o_O,Ohwell >_<That's my point Kaz, we have two 4th's and he went for a 5th when they were looking to get a 3rd for him. The fact we didn't make a move on Schefler tells me they are happy with the pass catching TE's we have and are looking for something else/more... Maybe the development of the offense too.
Kazkal
Well even if they like what they have in Coffman they still need some help at the position,My guess be they just put alot time in to draft and scouting guys so maybe few guys they really like (like mccoy.)I am, for some reason, apprehensive about Marvin's statement the other day that they'll let their "draft board make the pick." I have no idea why, but I'm uncomfortable with that.So you'd feel more comfortable if they had no clue who they wanted take at 21? I feel more comfortable them having confidence in there board that they won't be debating who they take that should alrdy have had Discussions of What Happens of Byrant falls to us at 21? what happens if Earl Thomas is there at 21? that they should alrdy know who they want between Mays & Gresham. HoosierCat
But Offense will be DepthNot if they draft Gresham, right? On the subject of the pass rush, let me just say this: if I am such a fool for calling for more "pass catchers" when the Bengals have (allegedly) been throwing scads of top picks and FA signings at wide receiver, what am I to make of the cries for more DEs? Do the Bengals not have 2 third-round picks in Rucker and Johnson? Did they not lavish big-bucks deals on Odom and Geathers (and just before that, pay 9 million clams to Justin Smith for a single year)? If using more picks to chase "pass catchers" is foolish because of their lack of success at hitting on those picks -- why then the cry for more DEs, where, if this thread is to be believed, they have been equally lavish and equally unsuccessful? Kazkal
Not if they draft Gresham, right?Very well could be If I saw a starter coming from the draft it would be at Tight End but it's not for sure(maybe resign Kelly and Coffman finds there way)But I don't see how this makes it sowe have to go Tight end in rnd 1?Gresham would be a sexy pick and truthfully I'd love to have the guy He's a Touchdown Machine...But at the same Time Maybe They like the idea of Getting a top Defensive Talent at number 1 then waiting and snagging a Tight End in Rnd 2 where you have Mccoy who is a superb blocker well still being a receiving threat or Gronkowski who may not be as big of a weapon as Gresham but would still be mismatch for most teams in the NFl...On the subject of the pass rush, let me just say this: if I am such a fool for calling for more "pass catchers" when the Bengals have (allegedly) been throwing scads of top picks and FA signings at wide receiver, what am I to make of the cries for more DEs? Do the Bengals not have 2 third-round picks in Rucker and Johnson? Did they not lavish big-bucks deals on Odom and Geathers (and just before that, pay 9 million clams to Justin Smith for a single year)?I don't think your a fool for wanting more weapons just have different opinions on where in the draft it has to be addressed,Like I've said I have no problem with going Offense round one may it be Wide Receiver,Guard or Tight End I'm simply defending the idea of going Defense in round one and Then going offense in the following Rounds...Well our Defense was a top 10 unit it still had weakness's that could improve and IMO Passrush was as bad as passing game...Our passing game had it's streaks here and there when it was fine but overall it was not.PS,If bengals went WR rnd 1 TE rnd 2 Guard rnd 3 Running back Rnd 3.5 you wouldn't hear a single complaint out of me the Defensive End/OLB i want anyways is a day 3 project Edited April 20, 2010 by Kazkal
derekshank
I've made my opinion on Gresham well known, so I don't feel a need to be a broken record. That said, I feel like I should make it known that of the many reasons I'm against him, none of them are because he's a pass catcher. Proof of this is in the fact that if Dez Bryant is there at 21, he's the obvious choice... and I wouldn't complain if they drafted Demaryius Thomas either. My point is that I feel like one of the places this team could use an upgrade, and will also likely represent the BPA, is on the D-Line. The other statements made were clearly aimed at Hair... so I'll let him respond.
HairOnFire
The other statements made were clearly aimed at Hair... so I'll let him respond. To what end? Why bother even responding to a poster who repeatedly ignores the moves the Bengals have actually made at WR already? Hoosier willingly admits how he's ignoring the most expensive and high profile FA signing the Bengals have made this year simply because he still lacks proof the move will work. Well how special is that? Just ignore the player who just signed a huge long term contract simply because you'd like to hedge your bet on draft day? Frankly, I think I'll let Hoosier continue telling anyone who wants to listen how the need for a youthful upgrade at SS, DE, or ILB isn't nearly as pressing as the need for two or three new backup WR's who he admits won't play significant snaps for years. Bottom Line: I can't prove the things I advocate are the best way to go because the Bengals have yet to do many of the things I propose. However, I'm reminded how two years ago the Bengals followed Hoosiers draft wishes to the letter, yet nothing changed...so he repeats the rant again as if nothing had happened. markymark69
Although, I'm really excited about the prospect of having a legit TE in Gresham being there. If Bryant is there, they have to take him. WR was the most pressing need heading into the off-season. I like Antonio Bryant, Chad is getting older, Caldwell is at best a 3rd receiver. Still no deep threat. Dez Bryant fills that bill and then some. For all the potential headaches -- he has too much talent to let go elsewhere if he's there. Gresham would be an awfully consolation prize though.
