Trevor Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 This all depends if we take Taylor mays at 21... Chris Crocker and Roy williams will be our starters at safety this year... And they'll be great on 1st and 2nd down... But to win games defensively i think rotation between these guys ( Crocker/Ndukwe- Roy/Mays) is a great idea... We all know Ndukwe is better suited to be a FS, and mays is a faster version of roy. Ndukwe does have the brain farts sometimes but i think with zim making the calls he will clean up his mistakes. I like tom nelson, i really do, he makes some big plays, but the guy is not big enough or strong enough to be a starting safety on this team. So i cant see him making the squad, (ps definately though). Anyways, back to the main topic if we get mays we can use him as a coverage safety on 3rd down, he's a guy who can line up at the line of scrimmage and cover any tight end. I truly belive that. No tight end is gonna burn him and he is strong enough to make sure no one crosses the 1st down. Tank and peko will hold down the middle. And odom is hopefully his 2009 form which would definately help ALOT. I think we can find quality guys in the middle rounds at DE. Mj also might be staring over geathers us a good rotation at that position, and were set at linebacker with B johnson as the best backup in the league IMO. That leaves us with hopefully 4 or 5 offensive picks (WR, TE, and Oline)2 or 3 playmakers on defense ( a CB and Maybe a few DT's)in this draft... And then we just watch our team become even better than last year. I say we have the ability to go 12-4 if we make these moves.. I am probably getting way ahead of myself but damn i'm just too pumped thinking about it I had to write it down! Quote
Trevor Posted March 21, 2010 Author Report Posted March 21, 2010 Oh and when i say 2010 backups,.. I plan on them starting in '11... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Ndukwe has his moments, but at other times reminds me why he was a 7th rounder very quickly. Quote

Whatever happens in the first round, we need to go safety early. Luckily, the draft is deep at safety this year and I would expect the Bengals will take advantage. Quote
Kazkal Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Nelson should see about making switch to CB If he can play CB and only CB he may be able to catch on as Dime CB somewhere...I wouldn't mind Ndukwe at FS if we do take Mays because he is solid Backup...Not sure how Zimmer would use our 4 Safetys but I'm sure he'd find a way... icehole3 Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 I think there's about 15 quality safeties out there and some big enough CBs (about 3 or 4)that can be drafted, so I think they can draft 2 really good safeties and Duke Nukem on ST where he belongs Quote
kingwilly Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 I disagree in the assessment of Chinny. He does not run well enough to play FS, nor does he stay in-scheme. He blows coverages far more often than Roy, and that was the knock on Roy.I see Chinny and a true SS.I see Mays as a better FS, as he has better range and, as when he had good CB's on his edges, plays coverage support very well indeed. I could actually see him press Crocker for playing time early.Chinny's problems lie between his ears. Think back to the hard knocks episode when Coyle is trying to coach him up, and his is shrugging it off, like je already knows and he was doing it right, when he wasn't. If he learn how to submit to being coached, he could be very good. I just see too much Madieu Willliams in him, too much "wathc me make the big hit", while on the next play we watch him out of position when a WR get behind a CB on a post. One good thing about safeties this year is there are about 8 good ones to look at through the first 4 rounds. JoePong Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 We all know Ndukwe is better suited to be a FSNo we don't. In fact, you're the only person I know who seems to think that. Nduckwe is better as a strong safety. His coverage ability isn't great, but he's ver good in the box coming up and making plays in the running game. Quote
Trevor Posted March 21, 2010 Author Report Posted March 21, 2010 All that stuff about him not covering well,.. I just cant see his rookie season being a fluke,.. Even if it was a while ago... He has a better suited body for FS IMO... And him and taylor mays would be a great playmaking tandem,.. Or... We can get 2 safeties in the draft and ndukwe can eventually just be a backup... But idk we'll see Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Can't see or should I say I hope we don't see Ndukwe in a starters role, because he just has to many lapses in what he is suppose to be doing on the field. As I said before, he shows flashes, but the other times are painful. Quote
