ArmyBengal
It appears the WR's are less important than making all efforts to sign Hall and JJoe to extensions. If they can get those two extended, bring in a vet WR for a year or two, AND get a WR in the draft, I think you call that a success. That's what they tried last year and it was a spectacular failure. They need a good possession receiver to replace TJ, and they need a guy who can get behind corners on a go route to replace Henry. They need better than waiver wire slag if they want a passing game better than last year's.I don't think you are implying since it didn't work last year, it shouldn't continue to be an effort this year. Are you ??Another thought to all of this is, before we the fans found out Marshall could be had for as little as a 1st, (which is now looking like more not less) and Boldin could be had for a 3rd, we were all taking guesses at who was going to fill those roles through the draft, with some advocating drafting 2 WR's. The thought was always to get someone like T.O. or Bryant heading into the draft looking to get someone. The fans made the assumption we weren't simply based on the release of Coles. I will admit I thought it certainly increased the chances of us going to get someone better, but here it is working out the way most thought it would and somehow people are surprised.Once again, it's not that I don't want these guys, but it's what or who the organization has put a higher precedence on signing.T.O. or Bryant will come cheaper allowing the team to actively pursue extending our CB's and it will be off to the draft. cincy9275
if we are going to take a wr in the 1st. then why not just trade your 1st for a probowl proven wr? i truly believe marshall would do for us what moss did for the pats. if we draft someone and they end up on chad or marshall talent level and abilities. it's going to cost you more 3-4 years down the road, then if you just traded and paid marshall now. then the window for this team is closing fast. we have what 3 maybe 4 years left from carson if that? marshall is arguably the best wr in the game why not try to get him? it's a smart investment, instantly makes the other wr/te's better, it's free up the draft to stock pile talent and not have to draft for need. if you get a superbowl out of it, that just makes this franchise more valuble and all the sudden it becomes place where f/a want to go. army just because we get a marshall does not mean we can not extent both jj and hall. there is no cap and don't buy the bs hobson says. this team can easily pay all 3 plus sign others. they have the cash. the problem is the brown family lives of the bengals profits and the more he spends on the team the less that goes in to his account. there is the problem., the browns would be wise and do like others owner get a outside income. so you can put the money the team make back in to the team. hell mike could get a ton off money just for letting a corp have the field naming rights. like invest.com field at Paul Brown Stadium. ArmyBengal
Oh, I'm well aware that that we can do the extensions and get Marshall. I've said so in my posts. My point is, not what we think we can do, but what Mike Brown and the organization is willing to do. They don't know if there is going to be a work stoppage or anything else for that matter and they are treading lightly. I certainly think they could and should go get Marshall and give up the first without much thought to it. Hell, if the thought is to get a playmaker and give up picks, give up a 1st and 3rd (since we should have two) and go get Vincent Jackson from the Chargers.Just throwing that out there... volcom69
edit: did my own homework and he was also tendered at first and thirdNot much left out there besides T.O., they should have sucked it up and got Boldin but they blew that. They could send a first for Marshall, but guys do we really think this is something they will do, i dont think so. Joe Reedy dosnt think so either he said it will be T.O. or Bryant, and please bengals do not sign Bryant he is no better then Coles. With all that said i guess this team has no other holes, are they even looking at anything in free agency this year so far it dosnt seem like they are? Oh well be patient i guess.
ChadJohnson-85
edit: did my own homework and he was also tendered at first and thirdOh well be patient i guess.Of course. There should be plenty of WRs to choose from 2 weeks from now. I don't mean to sound like a grump but I'm just pissed that Mikey & Company feel so confident in the WRs we currently have. Even if we get TO, what should we expect from this? More drama? GO AFTER MARSHALL! I understand Marshall has become a headache in Denver but at least he's a proven young WR that has a lot more to show. That ain't gonna happen though. History shows the Bengals have used their 1rst round pick on the draft every year since 1989, not for trading or whatever else. I really don't understand the Bengals... DC_Bengals_Fan
I don't think you are implying since it didn't work last year, it shouldn't continue to be an effort this year. Are you ??Definitely not saying that. Two things have changed since last year - 1) they're now missing their field-stretcher in Chris Henry - they're in much worse shape than even last year. 2) It's clear now that Chad can't beat good corners when they have safety help, meaning he needs a decent receiver opposite him. We now know that we need something better than Coles to have a passing game. Therefore, they need to be more aggressive in getting a WR than they are. Boldin's gone, they're going to no-bid Marshall. I'm not so sure about Bryant, and I'm not so sure he won't be gone before the Bengals get off their collective ass. Which will leave us with TO, which should be interesting if nothing else.Once again, it's not that I don't want these guys, but it's what or who the organization has put a higher precedence on signing.Ya gotta get some WR if you spend $20M a year on a QB.T.O. or Bryant will come cheaper allowing the team to actively pursue extending our CB's and it will be off to the draft. My concern there is that 1) the bust rate for WR is high, and 2) even those who don't bust rarely do much in their first year. Here we have a playoff team with a chance to make real noise in the postseason. Good teams figure out a way to patch the holes to build a winner. WR is a glaring weakness that needs to be fixed ASAP.
