BengalPimp
I don't want a Safety (Earl Thomas 5'10" 197 lbs) who is smaller than both of our starting CB's (Hall 5'11" 199lbs and Joseph 5'11" 193lbs) We already have 1 small safety in Chris Crocker (5'11" 200lbs) we don't need another, and definitely wouldn't use a 1st rd pick on one. Note: Eric Berry is 5'11" 203 lbs, but Earl Thomas is no Eric Berry !
Kazkal
Well I'm not scared off by his Weight if he's a good Tackler,Yes I'd love to have Mays someone who lays out the big hits but I also wouldn't mind a Balance Guy who's good vs Pass & Run...Plus maybe they move Crocker to SS with how Physical he is if they take a guy like Earl.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK_tq6nqCPUPS,Though Earl May very well be gone before we pick anyways. Dadraftnick
The Bengals needs are going to depend on alot of things like, if the Bengals sign Roy Williams,Bobbie Williams and Tank Johnson back for next year.I would have their needs asWR- Lets face it there is not a whole lot there which, is funny after all of those wasted draft choices on WR's that they didnt need when they didnt need them.Dont be surprised if they take more than one.DE- The Bengals were a different team when they had a good pass rush with Antwan Odom and with Odom Coming off an injury you dont know what he will be able to do.Even if Michael Johnson is able to contribute in todays NFL you really need 4 good DE's. Plus, you have Geathers who is the most over paid under-productive player on the team that should be cut.The Bengals need to get more production(sacks) out of this spot.DT- If Tank comes back they need #4 DT but, if he does not they will need someone that can come and start and there are some very good DT's in this draft.S- Again, if Roy Williams comes back they need a back up S but, if he does not they need a starter.CB- Someone that can be a #4 CB #3 if needed and it wouldnt help if he can play some S.TE-I put TE little further down the list because I still think that Chase Coffman will be good player for the Bengals and Reggie Kelley will be back and there is stil Foschi.Besides, there are some good TE's in the draft that will go in the middle to late rounds that I think will have better careers than some of the guys that go high.G- The Bengals need someone to come in and take over the LG spot and if they do not sign Bobbie Williams they may need someone to replace him.QB?- With Carson's arm troubles it would be nice to have a QB in training. J.T. Sullivan and Jordan Palmer have shown nothing to make me think that they can come and take over if Carson goes down. The Problem is the Bengals have more needs than they have draft choices. But, I think if the Bengals get a shot a someone they think they can work into something they may pull the trigger on a QB.KR/PR?- The Bengals have needed someone to return kicks and punts for a long time. While, I dont think they will take someone just as a KR or PR, there alot of great players in the draft that are great KR/PR's as well as being good at their position they play. I expect/hope they will take one of these guys that can do both.RB?- While I dont think the that Bengals are going into the draft looking for a RB, if the right guy fell to them I think they would have to think about it. Benson has one year left in his contract. If the Bengals are going to be a run first team, they may take someone to share running duties with Benson. If the guy brings something extra to the table like great speed or KR/PR abilities they would have to think hard about the guy. There is also the questtion of if they sign Shane Grahm. wpeldios
Safety is still my position of choice in the first round. I perfer Mays, but wouldnt be upset with Thomas at FS and Crocker at SS where he will be more of a fit imo.Just starting to get into off season mode. It's nice to not be doing this by week 10. HairOnFire
Too many to respond to, but I'll tackle the top of the list...WR- Lets face it there is not a whole lot there which, is funny after all of those wasted draft choices on WR's that they didnt need when they didnt need them.Dont be surprised if they take more than one. I'm never surprised when they take more than one. Disappointed, yes. Surprised, no. BTW, Tex Schramm was rumored to have shared breakfast with Mike Brown while in Mobile, and when asked about the Bengals draft plans Brown claimed the 1st round pick would be used on a defensive position OR a wideout if one were available. And of course, one will be.DE- The Bengals were a different team when they had a good pass rush with Antwan Odom and with Odom Coming off an injury you dont know what he will be able to do.Even if Michael Johnson is able to contribute in todays NFL you really need 4 good DE's. Plus, you have Geathers who is the most over paid under-productive player on the team that should be cut.The Bengals need to get more production(sacks) out of this spot. Geathers won't be cut, and the Bengals won't draft a replacement for Odom until it's proven he can't return. So I'm guessing any improvement in the pass rush will come by way of a Sergio Kindle type of pass rushing OLB.DT- If Tank comes back they need #4 DT but, if he does not they will need someone that can come and start and there are some very good DT's in this draft. Frankly, I was surprised by Tank Johnsons remarks about his desire to retrurn to the Bengals. So much so that I haven't said a word about how perfectly this draft seems to fall IF the Bengals targeted DT. But there it is, and if the Bengals aren't as enamored with Tank as it appears OR if they simply believe he won't be worth what he'll demand the Bengals could very easily pick from a crowded crop of DT's featuring all types.S- Again, if Roy Williams comes back they need a back up S but, if he does not they need a starter. The need to draft a starter regardless of what happens with Williams...who I believe won't be resigned. And there's the rub because Taylor Mays looks like a younger version of Williams, thereby giving the Bengals a comparable replacement if they want it. The question seems to be if they're looking for those types of physical qualities OR more of the CB/FS hybrid we've seen so much of under Lewis. If so, the kid from Texas is a perfect fit. Finally, there's the matter of whether drafting any safety prospect early in a draft is prudent knowing that it might be the deepest position avaialble in the entire draft.CB- Someone that can be a #4 CB #3 if needed and it wouldnt help if he can play some S. See above. (Earl Thomas)TE-I put TE little further down the list because I still think that Chase Coffman will be good player for the Bengals and Reggie Kelley will be back and there is stil Foschi.Besides, there are some good TE's in the draft that will go in the middle to late rounds that I think will have better careers than some of the guys that go high. Agreed. In fact, the TE's now projected for the middle rounds look to be better fits than the popular choice of Gresham, an average blocker with average speed...coming back from injury. nfldraft2010
I love that Chad Jones is mentioned. He's the clear number four safety at this point, and he has a chance to really improve his stock at the combine. He's still a little raw, but he has a lot of upside
