Cuts start today/New season started today!

These people who are criticizing Morgan Trent probably wanted us to cut Leon Hall after his rookie season.

This is just stupid. Even corners who are high 1st round draft picks struggle as rookies and get burned quite a bit. I acually didn't see Trent get burned very often at all though, so I'm not sure what people are talking about. He showed a lot of promise, and his play was pretty favorable when compared to other rookie CBs I have seen.

The Raiders game is the only game I remember Trent getting exposed. I thought he played some very good ball for the rest of the season.

I do agree that Trent can be used as a band aid if necessary when the starting db's are injured, but by no means does that make him a shut down corner.Let's say that the Bengals were pleasantly surprised by his play, that doesn't say a whole lot considering the fact he was drafted in the 6th round and may not have had any expectations of him. It will be interesting to see if/how Trent is used next season and if he is able to make the most of the opportunities that are given to him.

Secondly, I noticed that out of all the players I listed to cut, that Trent by far received the most support. Do you have any other players you think should be cut due to their lack of positive contributions to the team?

The only person I would cut is Coles and that's only if they get someone in FA to replace him. If not, hopefully a year's experience in the offense will make him a whole lot more productive next season.

Coats is a FA. They just need to NOT resign him.

I think Morgan Trent was the surprise of the draft. To come in an be the starting Nickle back as a 6th round rookie, on a team that won the AFC North, is pretty impressive. I know many, myself included, doubted that he'd make it through camp. He's got a lot of upside, as he's still learning the position after converting from WR in college.

As far as cuts go, there's a real possibility that Jerome Simpson gets the ax. The only thing keeping him on board is the fact that he's apparently a guy that practices hard and spends extra time learing how to play WR in the NFL. At least, that's what we get from Marvin every time Simpson is mentioned during his Pressers. He must be showing the staff something behind the scenes, but you have to wonder why he isn't even part of the offense, even if it's just in specialty packages. This is especially alarming due to the fact that we need more production at the WR position these days, and I still remember Carson in mid-season saying the Purify was further ahead of Simpson, and this was at a time in which Purify was still on the PS.

So because you don't get a shut down corner in the 6th round you cut him really? Hate to brake it to you but Joseph & Hall aren't shut down corners either damn good but not shut down.

that doesn't say a whole lot considering the fact he was drafted in the 6th round and may not have had any expectations of him

Ya people didn't have high Expectations for him but that doesn't mean he didn't play well I praised him plenty during the season and as you can see not one person agrees with you that he played like garbage...His Roll was a Nickle Corner and a Special Teams player and he was effective as both...He had good Upside but was super Raw so I look forward to watching him continue to grow since Coyle has done a good job with our DB's

PS,Player I think should be looked at is Robert Geathers which is hard because I really like the guy but Production isn't there for His Pay....We need some Speed at Defensive End to pair with MJ So either Geathers should go back to 260 or we need to draft a 3rd down end.

D3 sighting in Detroit:

Lions are also reportedly working out Stallworth tomorrow. The Redeemer better get on the horn PDQ if he doesn't want to miss out on his next project...

If we are going to go after a former Tennessee Volunteer WR who never met his potential in the NFL, I'd rather it be Kelley Washington.

At least he knows Brat and has a cool TD dance, let alone caught a few footballs in 2009.

According to Mike Florio of PFT, NFL teams can start trimming players off their roster.([color=#483D8B]http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/02/08/offseason-cuts-to-begin-today/) As a new member to this forum, I am not sure how many of you feel regarding the Bengals roster of '09-'10, but to get the ball rolling, who do you think the Bengals should cut? (It doesn't mean that these cuts will happen, or are financially feasible, but ones that would help make the team better) Here is my initial list:

1) L. Coles: drops, drops, drops

2) D. Coats: see Coles

3) M. Trent: as shown by playtime, cannot cover

1)Hell no he was a steal anytime you can have a number one guy come in and play in a number two spot I do realize he had alot of drops towards the middle of the season but he really came through for us towards the end. God forbid but if Ocho gets hurt who is going to be the number one guy maybe Jones if he makes it and we don't even know how good he will be, and Andre or Quan don't have enough to go up against some of the more elite corners. You keep Coles for depth and a second option or if they feel comfortable with some of the younger guy or FA pick ups and the Draft they could just trade him but don't just let him go and get nothing in return.

2)Yes on Coats he vertually dropped every pass that came his way and the only thing he was decent at was blocking because he was a fullback and they just moved him up to the line and called him a tightend in hopes he would be a replica of Reggie Kelly on the line. Everything else he sucked at route running, speed, and catching he isn't cut out for the job and I can't see him being a fullback he would just be taking up the bench even Jeremi is better than him and he drops an occasional pass. (We do need someone young eventually)

3)No Morgan did have some coverage problems but realize this was his first season in the NFL give him time to improve playing corner is one of the more difficult positions in the NFL and he did exceptional for cover some 4 plus year recievers even though he gave up a couple of touchdowns. Give him time who else is going to step up and be a third corner David Jones no what has he done give Morgan a chance maybe sign a veteran guy in the offseason and put Morgan under him give him time we can't afford to just keep throwing away our draft picks like this. BE PATIENT

4)NOOO people think Simpson isn't playing because he doesn't know the playbook hahahaaaa if you really think he is that dumb he can't learn the playbook in two years then you are dumb. Jerome isn't on the gameday roster because they have better players in front of him. We have Coles and Ochocinco and we did have Chris at the beginning of the season, and Andre and Quan started over him because the Bengals are trying to find a returner as both of them returned kicks last season. I say keep him and see what he has got in the preseason when people are going to be fighting for a position with the possibility of Coles leaving and a whole bunch of young guys fighting for a number two and three spot expect it to be crazy and don't throw away a talented young reciever who we got in the 2nd round don't throw him away throw a couple balls his way in the preseason or late season get some teams interested and trade him if he gets beat again this year.

5)Orien Orien the only reason we got him was because niether Sims or Johnson was doing good and Peko was injured at the end of the season. Guess what he didn't impress I think he had one sack or a tackle for a loss I can't remember but thats the only time he impressed me. Keep Sims and Tank they are better and get rid of Orien they will probably pick up another tackle in the draft or a dream pick up WILFORK that would be a dream not likely but hey they got atleast a 1/32 shot less than that actually. Just get rid of him because he was at the Browns at the beginning of the season and they even released him for poor play need I say anymore.
