Jetsfan1
Let me start off that I am a huge Jets fan, a season ticket holder but at the same time I try to see things without green colored glasses. I have been listening to the NY (minus Mike Francesca) and National media proclaim the Jets as shoe in winners this weekend and nothing makes me more nervous. I HATE that Rex proclaimed the Jets as SB favorites (come on Rex). I HATE all the attention that the Jets are getting. And I especially hate all the junk that the Jets fans have been talking. I would much rather have the Jets shut their mouths and just go to work like the Bengals seem to be doing (except Benson).Im not stating anything earth shattering here. Probably will be a very low scoring game with both teams having very stout def and both teams having VERY good running games. Obviously you guys have the advantage in QB which could be the difference in the game. With that being said I will take the Jets wr now that Chris Henry (RIP) has passed. Cotchery is a very underrated WR and I am actually excited to see if Braylon steps up his game in his first playoff game. If Sanchez has to lead this team in a last drive scenerio then I am not confident at all. But at the same time if the Jets somehow get up by 10 points or more and Palmer is forced to throw the ball, especially in the weather that is predicted, I will gain some confidence. We both have a long history of being a losing franchise. Win or lose both teams are being built for the long haul. Both teams are just a few pieces away from being legitimate Super Bowl contenders so this might be one of many meetings in the playoffs. I wish you good luck and I hope for a good game (obviously with the Jets winning in my case).
bwillycuse
Awesome post. I feel the same. I want to see a good well played game. As a Bengals fan - I cant ever get cocky about a game. I hope for the best. Its been a great year for us this year. IMO - A plAYoff win would make it an even more memorable one.Good Luck tomorrow

Jetsfan1
has benson been talking crap this week?I dont know if he meant to but he pretty dismissed David Harris as somebody he should know. “I don’t know how big of an impact he makes on that defense,” Benson said. “I’m not a big names guy or who’s playing. I don’t even really know who that is.”“They’re a good defense,” said Benson, the AFC’s second-leading rusher (1,251 yards) despite missing three games. “They play good. I’m sure they’ll find somebody to fill his spot just as good, just as capable of making that defense successful.”That is a back handed compliment AT BEST. Whether you dont know who he is, I dont think it best to procaim that to the media. Make no mistake, whether Benson knows his name or not (or for that matter many NFL fans), David Harris is one of the top middle linebackers in the league. I'll be honest, I didn't know who the heck he was until last week either.I think one problem you guys have (in terms of media exposure) is too many guys who pop off at the mouth who might overshadow legitimately good players. I'm looking at you, Kerry Rhodes. Rex too.And I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but Jets players never really get their due since the team hasn't historically had a ton of success, and because of the Gints overshadowing them. Curtis Martin was always underrated, for instance. So was Sherbert (or Chrebet or however you spell that). Going back, I thought Ken O'Brien didn't get his due (though that was a time of a lot of good, young QBs).So don't be surprised if you have to win a lot of games before anybody knows who your players are. The only ones who get known are the ones who make asses of themselves, usually, like Meshawn.

He sounds high half the time. He's just a mellow guy. He doesn't know who Harris is. Big deal. Honestly neither did I until this past Sunday. Just as I'm sure you don't really know who Peko and Crocker are and how much of a difference they make for this defense. We play in different divisions and Benson played in the NFC up until last year. I appreciate your come-in-peacedness. Here's to a good game and more importantly continued success for 2 teams likely not to go far in the playoffs but excel more next year. I think Ced was saying that he doesn't pay attention to who is who on the Jets. He gets paid to run the ball and who is playing linebacker won't change what he does. Maybe that can be twisted into an insult if the Jets need that sort of thing to get up for a playoff game.

The above comment could equally apply the other way around, however. If the Jets get down more than 1 TD, I'm guessing your underwear will start to feel a little tight. Neither team is really likely to score quickly and I'd rather be counting on Palmer in that situation than Sanchez. QB is the one position that we clearly have an advantage, last week not withstanding. Time will tell, of course.
gregstephens
In regards to Benson--I'd be greatly surprised if he could name all of his OWN teammates. Wouldn't read a whole lot into that. Good luck, though, and thanks for the post.
HairOnFire
Anybody remember when Barry Sanders admitted he couldn't name a single member of an opposing teams defense? How Sanders never bothered looking beyond a players size and uniform color? How the color of the uniform determined if the player was friend or foe and the size of the player dictated what type of wiggle the guy was going to get? Frankly, the whole rant about how the Jet's are being disrespected is a pretty big load of crap. Granted, there's plenty of talk about how they backed into the playoffs, but that's squarely on them...especially after Rex popped off like an idiot about the Jets being eliminated from the playoffs. Talk is cheap. Rex Ryan proves that much every day, right? And his team seems to be following in his footsteps. After all, Bart Scott is busy talking about body bags being needed and members of the Jet's offensive line can be heard yammering about how they may cut block lower and longer than normal. All things considered, a classy demonstration of sportsmanship from Rex's bunch, ehh?

Besides, he was moving so fast the uniform numbers were probably blurs anyway. Other mortal players might want to care. Not saying that Ced should notice this specific guy or not, but still.Barry Sanders being sentenced to Det was one of the biggest wastes of talent I've ever seen. I'm personally of the opinion that he was the most talented rusher ever. He'd have had the rushing record without trying if he hadn't gotten sick of Detroit and retired. HAPPYJAQ
I wouldn't read too much of the Benson comments. He has always struck me as a guy who is good at playing football, as opposed to a guy who lives, eats and breathes the game (no disrespect intended). He probably looks at it as a guy who's just doing his job, a lot like the the other former great Texas Longhorns RB, with whom he has always been compared with since he was drafted, minus the weed (or maybe not). That said, he is a hard worker and certainly a team player, and I think he'll be the difference in the game. I think he'll be as motivated as he was against the Bears, in proving that he's a better RB than Thomas Jones.
HairOnFire
Difference: Barry Sanders was so much better than anyone else on the field, it completely didn't matter. Sorry, I still say no difference. Sanders an Benson are different players but the mindset is the same, and it has nothing to do with a lack of respect for the other guy. Frankly, all I'm hearing is a Jet team trying desperately to cling to the "no respect" rant that has provided them with so much motivation to date. And that's all well and good save for the fact the Bengals are actually getting less respect than the Jets, thereby prompting pussified New Yorkers to prop up perceived insults as the real thing. You'd think they could see the difference.

In this case, I think it's more that Ced cares more about the schemes than the personnel, which for this team is probably a good decision.I was just saying that you can't make your point by comparing Ced to Barry Sanders, in the same way that I can't make a point about the intelligence of humans by comparing Joe Pong to Einstein.
