HairOnFire
Jet Legend Crable Sees Sea Change In BengalsLast Update: 12:25 am "Did you ever in your wildest dreams, think the Bengals would sign Larry Johnson?," Bob Crable asked me Thursday night. "That is the biggest change in this teams' philosophy, I can ever remember," he answered his own question.Bob Crable would know about changes in team philosophy. The Moeller grad went on to play for Dan Devine and his Crusader head coach Gerry Faust at Notre Dame, where he still holds the record for career tackles. And was the New York Jets first round draft pick in 1982. He had a 7 year NFL career and was 3-2 lifetime in games against the Bengals, meaning the lifelong Cincinnatian knows the franchise on and off the field. So he was genuinely stumped when the Bengals announced Tuesday that they had signed disgruntled Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.Bob observed that the Bengals never, in his memory, had ever acquired an impact player like Johnson, this deep into the season. And never when they were winning. He thinks it speaks to the maturity of the clubhouse, in that Johnson, if he turns out to be the irascible 'head case' some Kansas City media portrayed him, won't spoil the chemistry that has taken this team to the top of their division. And the long and short of it is that they can use him because of the injury to Cedric Benson.Even more stunning to me at least, I retorted, was that Marvin Lewis talked about the talk about Johnson Monday.Never, has Marvin talked freely about a player that isn't his. He's said so repeatedly. When someone offers a hypothetical about this guy or that guy, "Well that guy doesn't play for us so I'm not going to talk about him." Bam, as Emeril would say. End of story. Not last Monday though and not about this player. Marvin was more than willing to talk about how he'd been in touch with Larry and how they were going to explore possible opportunities with the Bengals. Bob also said his son who is a senior at Butler University, has been badgering him about going to the Bengals-Jets game, January 3rd, in the season finale for both teams."There are only two guys left in the Jets' office that I know from my playing days", he said. I assured him that Bengals front office types are lifers. Some things will never change.

Pidge
Honestly, I hope the team is bashed. They deserve it for losing that game. Florio's wrist must be sore by now.
