ArmyBengal
Per PFT, Carson is being held out of Thusday's game. This should feature a heavy dose of JT and Jordan, but will do nothing in prepping Carson for the 3rd preseason game which is usually the one to gauge things by. Maybe they push that to the last preseason game. It's enough to make Chad Ochocinco mutter, "Child please."After a 4-11-1 season marred by an elbow injury to quarterback Carson Palmer, the preseason will now feature Palmer struggling with a high ankle sprain.Per ESPN, it's a mild-to-moderate sprain, which will at a minimum knock Palmer out of Thursday night's preseason game at New England. But if it indeed is a high ankle sprain, Palmer could miss even more time.So stay tuned, please.Or, as the case may be, child please./>http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/17/carson-palmer-wont-play-on-thursday/
Sea Ray
They're just being cautious as they should at this point. Fact is Carson played pretty darn well after the injury. It actually occured on the play where the ball slipped out of his hand and he went to recover it and was immediately tackled from behind. My guess is if this was week 12 he'd be playing on Sunday. If I recall PFT has had him diagnosed with a rotator cuff tear one year and a Tommy John elbow surgery the next. They like to give worst case scenarios. I think we can all agree that playing him in preseason game #2 with this sprain would be idiotic and serve no purpose
walzav29
OK. I'm trying to ignore the constant chant from my buddies that "Plamer's always hurt" But this is getting out of hand. It's not serious, but at what point do that get a real backup? I hope he makes it the season.
ArmyBengal
To start, yeah Carson missing one preseason game isn't the "be all and end all" to things, but I don't think it helps matters when you consider game 3 of the preseason is usually looked upon as the tune up. Like I said, maybe he gets more playing time in game #4 because of that. It's been said time and time again, but if Carson goes down, I really and truly believe the start to who we draft in the top 10 next year can begin.I will give PFT a ton of credit in the fact of when they began, they were the most reliable (if at all) source, but they have come a long way and have become a pretty good source of information that is usually pretty accurate. Regardless of the spin put on things, the facts are usually straight and Carson will in fact be sitting out.The Pats should win this game fairly easy, but I look at it as yet another chance to see the youngsters play and hopefully get our first looks at Maualuga !!! membengal
It would help if the Bengals would be a little more "up front" about injuries. We've seen allegedly minor things linger and linger over the last few years, so the default setting is for "this must be awful"...
walzav29
The Million Dollar question is wit hthat top 10 pick. Do we get another QB? That would be 2 seasons missed and another that he didn't finish. I just wish he's be 100% for 5 years straight. Any word if Rey is healthy enough to play? That means I only have to hold off watching it for three hours and avoid seeing scores until then. Doable.
walzav29
I would love to see a sack of Brady and to have the 1st string D hold the Pats to nothing more than a FG. THis will be a good mini-test.

I hate to say that, but lately he's spent more time on the sideline than not.

walzav29
It does make me want to puke, but what are the Bengals supposed to do? Fitzpatrick and O'Sullivan can't get it done if Palmer goes down, and with the frequency of his injuries. I hate to say it, but he doesn't have Favre like luck. kingwilly
I did not have a big issue with O'sullivan and his performance. He had timing with Cheech and Simpson and clearly has a better arm than Fitzpinprick. He will get time with the first team this week against a nasty D, so we will know soon enough how he reacts to 1st team game situations.Palmer needs to simply heal up. If he is ready by Game 4 of preseason, then so be it if it means he is 100% for Game 1.

I hope he plays well, but have seen enough of him to be very worried about the int.

Bearcat1975
Any word if Rey is healthy enough to play? According to Bearcat it all depends on the humidity. Either you are stupid enough to interpret what I said as that, or you are not. Its pretty much that simple. That being said, this is not where you want to be if you are Palmer. No practice reps, no game time reps, and no gelling with the rest of the offense.A good oline will turn "average" into "good."A crappy oline will turn "good" into "terrible."One of these decades I'm hoping Mike Brown will realize this. ArmyBengal
So I brought it up in the Favre thread and will address it here as well, but there is a report that the Vikings would be willing to trade Tavaris Jackson for a mid to low round draft pick. So I ask, what do you guys think ?? They said there is even a possibility of releasing him. Now I'm sure we will have a better idea after Thursdays game agains the Pats, but it does present an interesting situation as I view Jackson as a better option than either O'Sullivan or Palmer v2.0. If he could be had with a 4th or 5th do you do it ??
