Stallworth Suspended for the Year

Recommended Posts

Not to be a d*ck to Browns fans, but I was hoping this would happen. From the standpoint of, HE F*CKING KILLED SOMEONE.

Vick seems to have gotten FAR worse in his dog fighting issues than a guy that took a human life.

A league source tells us that Browns receiver Donte' Stallworth has been suspended for the entire 2009 season.

The suspension comes in the wake of Stallworth's guilty plea to felony DUI manslaughter in Florida.

Stallworth previously had been suspended indefinitely by Commissioner Roger Goodell, pending a full review of the case.

UPDATE: The league has confirmed the suspension, via a press release. Stallworth will be reinstated after the Super Bowl.

I still don't know if that's enough, but it's a start.

I think much of the reason that Stallworth got off easier than Vick is because of public perception. A lot of people see DUI as a minor issue. This is the most serious consequence of that crime... but because Stallworth didn't intend to kill someone when he got in his car, many people view it is a mistake more than true criminal activity. Vick on the other hand had criminal intent and his cruel actions find little sympathy from the public.

Not saying I agee... because I don't. I think Stallworth should be in prison for a couple years... and I also think DUI penalties are far too tame. But public perception drives so much of what is done in this country, and that's why I think you see such a difference in the punishment handed out in these two situations.

Hopefully someone is still dumb enough to draft him in my fantasy league.

Might happen. When I was listening to the radio the other day, someone called in saying how they were gonna take Edgerrin James and that he was going to have a monster year. The DJ had to tell him that he was a free agent.......

From what I understand, the reason the sentence was so light is because the family of the victim agreed to it since they got a bunch of money out of Stallworth in a civil suit or something.

Yeah, the family got a bunch of money and Stallworth was upfront through the whole process, which everyone was very impressed with and I appluad him for not running the celebrity route and try to cover up anything. That being said, Vick went to prison, lost his job, all of his endorsements that were worth more than his contract, and all because of dogs. Yeah the situation is different, but one killed dogs and one killed a human being. You would just think the one who got the one year suspension would have been the one who killed dogs. Such is life huh ?? Until Stallworth loses as much as Vick has, I will say it's unfair. Not that what I think means sh*t, but just how I see it.

If the Reyes family were to put thought to it, the judicial system basically said the loss of some dogs lives were more of a loss than that of their father and husband. Once again, I just think it's sad.

It could also be argued that Reyes had a hand in his own death. He ran out into the street where he shouldn't have been crossing and from what I've read and heard, Stallworth would've had a hard time missing him even if he was sober.

The same could not be said of the hundreds of dogs that Vick and his cohorts killed. No blame whatsoever can be put on them in causing their deaths.

Not saying that this makes what happened right, just saying that that is what was looked at when making these decisions in my opinion.

If Stallworth had the same endorsement deals and contract moneys to lose he would have already given up close to what Vick has. Stallworth got 1 year from the NFL, Vick has really not been given his suspension details yet, has he?

Seems fair from my view, that both men made mistakes and have paid a tremendous price for them. The actions are not similar in any respect. Donte will have to live with taking an innocent human life. Vick probably still only regrets getting caught, I really doubt he has any guilt over his actions.

Not sure what a DUI/traffic offence fails under but Vick pissed off the feds for crossing state lines or something. Might explain the difference?

I've never understood the state vs. federal law thingy, except - rully rully don't piss the feds off, especially the tax men.
