walzav29
Antonio is hurt every year, I think this kid Cosby has big play potential. The question I have is if they take Fred over Simpson. It seems too early to give up a 2nd rounder, but I'm not reading too many good things about him. Bummer. I think he is really trying. Kazkal
Antonio was pretty overrated when he got here for being avg at best...but now after what 3 years of injurys either pup/ir him or cut him loose.
Ickey44
Antonio's done. They should give Scott a look at returner and see what he can do.
TJJackson
In general, not a big fan of frequently injured players(also see Santucci, Dan - the oddly enough, I think I'm ok with one more try for the oft-injured Fanene)time for a new punt returner
JoePong
Chatman won't stick because he can't stay healthy, but Cosby ain't making it dude. Sorry, but he's not very good.

Sorry, but he's not very good.So who do you think will take the sixth WR spot?Maurice Purify seems to be getting alot of praise so when it comes down to just being WR I would think he's currently the favorite for the 6th spot followed by Freddie Brown....But If Cosby or another WR can bring something to special teams then the spot will be theirs...Depends alot on if Scott or Nelson win the punt returner job imo. ArmyBengal
Honestly, I've been wanting Chatman gone for some time and I'm hoping this is finally his time similar to Watson.I thought the Bears would have taken a shot at Cosby to tell you the truth, because I think he's a good slot type WR and they had such need. Yeah, he's older for a rookie, but he can play. His problem in coming to the Bengals is, we have such depth at the position already that unless he makes it as a retun guy, he's not going to make it.I don't know between, Scott, Cosby, or anyone else you want to name in who's better suited for the punt return job, but one of them certainly has to be better than Chatman who (like most have said) is always injured. Time to move on from that one...
coupdayta
So the depth chart would be as follows? Johnson, Coles, Caldwell, Henry, Simpson, (Cosby, Purify, or Chatman.) Do we really need 6WRs? Is Simpson a lock to even make the team?
Ickey44
Is Simpson a lock to even make the team?I would think so. They've got to give him at least one more year. They knew he was a project when they drafted him. If he sucks next year, then get rid of him.
ArmyBengal
I think it's a lock for Simpson to make the team as well. They aren't giving up on their 2nd pick quite yet.Oh yeah, Chatman has an ankle sprain to deal with as of yesterday, so I think his time is up !!! Baraka
no doubt simpson makes the squad. as others have said wr usually take 2-3 years to develop in the nfl, especially coming from a small school.as for chatman: cut his always broken ass! (santucci too) it seems like our return game is going to be no better than when ratliff was falling down after a yard and a half. hopefully scott, cosby or nelson can surprise us, but im not holding out a ton of hope. next year a 3rd cb that has return ability has to be a priority in the draft. ArmyBengal
This year was, what I thought to be, a very important year when it came to the draft and ensuring they filled the holes they have with quality players. I think they did a pretty good job with that and have heard little arguement to that fact. I think next years draft will also be the same way. There are a bunch of key players that will become free agents either due to their time being up or them having signed a one year deal going into this year.I think with the possible changes to the CBA and how that could affect things from a financial standpoint, next year's draft will have more than it's fair share of "PRIORITIES". I agree, that a 3rd CB may be needed and God knows we need a return guy for punts pretty bad, but the o-line will once again, be a priority, as will the d-line, and a WR corps that is getting older or not developing.I think the team was pretty smart with the draft this year and that will need to carry over into who they cut heading into the start of this season and into the draft the following offseason. That being said, I think Chatman would fall into the catagory of a "smart" cut. I can't see keeping this guy on the roster when he is always hurt, has brought little to the return game, and is getting older when we need healthier and younger guys.I'm hopeful the team continues doing smarter things in that regard, because a lot is riding on it... Sea Ray
I think we have to get a punt return guy out of the 6th spot. Otherwise they'll go with 5. Are they planning to use Caldwell as the KO return guy? It's really hard to wait for Simpson to develop seeing as he doesn't play STs. That's (a project) not what you want out of a 2nd rd pick. ArmyBengal
I'm pretty sure Caldwell is still the kickoff return guy, unless someone has heard something different. He does a good job with that as well, so no issues there.
Kazkal
Seems like Deedee is trying to win the Punt Return job knowing it is his best chance to make the team<forgot if was hardknocks or news tidbit but said he was staying late after practice catching balls from the jug machine)
