Ickey44
The only thing that bothers me is that he cost a 2nd rounder. If we took him in the 5th, maybe even 4th, on his potential then no problem. As it is, we have one less player helping out the starting 22. Wasted pick right now. Having said that, someone else was apparently looking at him and that's why we took him early? Probably just propaganda to limit the damage of a misjudged pick.Still, even a generally well regarded college WR picked in the 1st rnd can take his time in adjusting to the league so I'm not going to get on his case right now. Next yr he better be a top 3 WR or we'll have truly wasted what should be a starting calibre player with a 2nd rnd pick.If we didn't take him then the Steelers would have taken him. Even taking a look at their 2nd round pick that year Limas Sweed, a proven receiver from a big time school UT. He hasn't been able to produce for them yet.It takes time for receivers. I'm still going to hold out and be patient witht he kid.How is it known that the Steelers wanted Simpson? Because they took a wideout? Sweed was ranked alot higher according to most draft experts.IMO it was a bad pick, a reach, a player that could of been had in the 4th or 5th round.I think it was being said the Steelers liked him alot.I seem to remember reading that there were a handful of teams thinking about taking him in the second round and that's why the Bengals went ahead and took him. So far, though, the gamble hasn't paid off. I give him another year and he should be fine.

Moreso than some of the other WR's ?? I don't know, but certainly interested enough that had he been the highest rated WR there when they picked (which was very possible) they would have taken him. The other part to consider (I did do the research) is that Simpson was WIDELY considered a top 15 WR. Some had him as high as the 8th best prior to the draft. With that being the line of thought and the fact there were 10 WR's taken in the 2nd round in 2008, there is NO WAY IN HELL that Simpson lasts past the 3rd round at the very worst. Not trying to bust balls.
