Reds vs. Diamondbacks

We always use to do these, so I will try to get back in the habit again.

That being said, the Reds opened up 6 game road trip with a 13-5 beatdown of the Diamondbacks. Arroyo got the win even though he gave up 5 runs, so I thinks it nice to see the bats coming alive. Taveras went 5-5 while driving in 2 runs. The team as a whole played pretty well and are now sitting at 18-14 in second place a couple of games behind the Cardinals.

Owings is on the mound tonight and it would be nice to see him pick up a win against the team that drafted him !!!

Go Reds !!!

It is going to be a tough go tonight against Dan Haren. Hopefully the Reds didn't shoot their entire load last night! I sure am glad to see the Reds bunting more and trying to produce runs.

I can also say that I was wrong about Ramon Hernandez. I really thought he was going to be a total failure after how he started the season. Not only were his stats bad, but he was looking horrible doing it. Even though his average is up, his power numbers are still far from what people were projecting for him.

Anyone else miss Adam Dunn? Dunn signed with Washington for $8 Mil this year and so far has 11 hr, 28 RBIs, and is batting .318. I know he is a lefty, but I sure would like to see him still in left field for the Reds. When you take into account that the Reds are paying Hernandez $8.5 Mil this year, Dunn wouldn't have been all that expensive to sign.

Are we going to miss the 40 HR's from Dunn this year ?? Maybe, but there's just something about taking that money and changing the dynamic of this team and seeing the youth movement that makes me really enjoy following the team this year. It's nice to see some of the talent that has been sitting there in the minors get the chance to make a difference and have some fun out there while doing it.

I'm loving seeing Rosales sprint around the bags after hitting a HR. It just motivates me seeing them have some fun out there !!!

So Micah Owings is pitching tonight as I mentioned earlier, but when Dusty was speaking about him, he had this to offer:

“Everybody knows he can hit,” Baker said after that game. “If anybody knows he can hit, they know he can hit.”

If anyboy knows he can hit, they know he can hit ?? Am I missing something ?? Was that part of another conversation that got chopped up ??

I must admit, when I read it the first time I was like WTF ?? Reading it some more, I'm still of the same midset here...

Dusty must have been still feeling some of that jet lag. Why a reporter would put that in an article is beyond me.

Owings pitched for the Diamondbacks last year, didn't he? I assume that's what Dusty was referring to.

Seeing Micah getting the win after a good 7 inning outing against his former team is very nice.

Hopefully we can see Cueto pitch a nice game for the sweep against a minor league guy they are bringing up for the start tonight.

5 games over .500 and a game out of first with the Cards losing. I'm pretty happy right now with the Reds !!!

When was the last time you watched a Reds series and knew one team had no chance to score enough runs to win ... and it wasn't the Reds.

This team has more than enough pitching and hitting to compete against anyone. I believe the Cubs, Cards and Brewers have all been served notice that the Reds are real this year and aren't going anywhere. This is going to be fun!

Get ready for the Padres to conclude the road trip. Don't look now but the Reds are 6th in the NL in hitting to go along with their pitching awesomeness.

Oh man is it fun to watch this team too... this quote from Phillips tonight:

“Our swag is real nice right now. We’re picking each other up. Our team chemistry is gorgeous. Everybody on this team is rooting for each other. When somebody gets a hit, you see everybody in the dugout going crazy. Honestly, this is the best team I’ve played on. The guys on this team pick each other up.

That is what you like to hear. As tired as I was of the Griffey/Dunn half-assing it and the understanding of how that laid the poor example on the rooks... there is nothing better than watching guys hustle and then in turn seeing how contagious "hustle" is.

Anyone who hasn't heard yet, this Reds team is a fun one.

Gotta love the sweep and the run production they are getting 26 runs over 3 games never hurts. I understand the D-Backs sucks right now, but sometimes you need to play a series like that to get things going. Hopefully another series against a hurting Padres club won't hurt in that department either.

I so enjoyed taking a look at the standings today and seeing our beloved Reds sitting atop the division. Thing of beauty indeed.

Just keep hanging in there guys !!! Oh yeah, the Reds have the best road record in the majors right now as well !!!

Good stuff Mark. This is so fun to watch. That Phillips quote is awesome too.. I can't wait til next week, I'm going down to a game for sure...

How about Cueto's stuff last night. Jeez, this kid is NASTY!!

Yep, Cueto is coming into his sort of like Volquez did last season. He's sitting at 4-1, has the lowest ERA of the starters, and obviously has a better grasp of things and doesn't get rattled like he was last season. If he keeps things going he will be in the All-Star game for sure. I just want to see them continue having fun out there and having that hungry look to themselves. I love it !!!

Hey Otter, sorry about how your Orioles are doing at this time, but at least you have the Reds and it's still early on !!!
