agreen_112
I was sifting through Reds.com, reading the stories and looking at the stats.. Haven't seen this mentioned in any story so I thought I would share. The Reds have the lowest ERA in the MLB - 3.61 Notable ERA's: Boston - 4.61New York Yankees - 5.86Tampa Bay - 4.54The Reds are 7/7 in saves/save oppurtunities. We're 5th in MLB in HITS, 3rd in RUNS, and 2nd in EARNED RUNS allowed. Another stat worth mentioning is that we are 2nd in the MLB in TOTAL BASES allowed. Volquez is 4-2 with an ERA of 3.47Arroyo is 4-1 with an ERA of 4.91 (and he's as NASTY as he's ever been)Cueto is 2-1 with an ERA of 1.65Harang is 2-3 with an ERA of 3.00That 5th spot is definitely suspect but I still think Owings is valuable. I think we stick with him for now, the season is too early. The bullpen is doing great too. Cordero is the best MONEY the Reds have spent in awhile! Things are looking good, can't wait for tonights game and some Chicken Wings.. Here we go Redlegs, here we go!!
ArmyBengal
The Reds also lead the league in shutouts with 6 for the season, 4 of those coming in the last 6 games.I've been saying for a while that I think they just need time to bring it all together and if they can just keep it close, they might suprise some people. 12-10 at 2.5 out is hanging in by my account and if they could just start producing some runs for Harang they would be alright. He's got to be getting frustrated...I was pissed they blew the extra inning game the other night on a throwing error !!! 14 innings to have it end that way ?? Glad I didn't stay up watching that happen !!!

Glad I didn't stay up watching that happen !!!I just saw the video of that throwing error, and the runner going into second was well out of the basepath and interference should have been called making the runner going to first out and keeping the game tied. When going into a base a runner has to at least attempt to slide into the bag not 5 foot away from it.
themaninblack
If this team starts to hit the baseball like I think they can, WATCH OUT. The pitching is going to be there for the most part and we just need to capitalize on that. We may not have that powerful offense like we have had in the past but I think we have plenty of guys that can hit the baseball well. GO REDLEGS! ArmyBengal
I was hoping for more from Dickerson, but it's still early on. He was the one I was hoping to get some of that power from when we got rid of Dunn and Griffey.

The Reds pitching is on FIRE, lets hope Arroyo keeps the fire alive tonight. So far he's been incredible. I agree with you guys, our pitching is allowing us to 'hang in there.' Once we start stringing hits together, we will be dangerous. We've already seen that the boys can do this in the games we've won but they can do it more consistantly. The throwing error was bad, but s**t happens. 14 innings is a loooong time to stay perfect. Janish is usually money. It was a mental breakdown by the pitcher, Herrera I think. He said his momentum was going towards third after the pitch so he got a late jump on his move back to first base.
ArmyBengal
I didn't see the replay of the play with the throwing error, but Baker didn't seem to make much fuss about it.Maybe that's the problem. Anyway, I hope they continue with the good pitching !!!
ArmyBengal
Well the Reds pitching we were going on and on about just gave up 9 runs in the first inning.Holy sh*t that is bad !!! They better put on the rally caps !!!
themaninblack
Of course as soon as I compliment the pitching we get shelled.

ArmyBengal
Just one game it was, after the Reds take last night's game 6-5 behind Owings 6 innings of pitching and his tie breaking triple in the 4th.Apparently the club is getting ripped up by the flu right now and the roster is shifting to make due in the mean time.Hopefully they can keep it together until some of the guys start feeling better.Big 3 game series at home against the Cardinals starting tonight and Cueto has the start in game one... BengalszoneBilly
Big 3 game series at home against the Cardinals starting tonight and Cueto has the start in game one...So far that is going quite well. The Reds lead 6-1 in the top of the eighth! C'mon SWEEP!
BengalszoneBilly
Just a game and a half out now. Keep the pressure on!
Spor_tees
Just when you talk good about something the Reds have done, they come out and lay an egg. I guess it is a sign of a young team when they can look like a championship caliber team one night, and a basement dweller the next. Gotta love Micah Owings and Adam Rosales though! ArmyBengal
I was thinking the same thing. I mean we did take 2 of 3 from the Division leaders. Suer it would have been nice to get the sweep, but you can't win them all and I will take that at this point in time. The season is long and I keep mentioning the keeping it close while they figure things out and they appear to be doing just that with some really good pitching. I won't complain just yet as this team is finding a way to win regardless of the flu and youngsters being thrown into the lineup.Good for the Reds !!! Gotta love Micah Owings and Adam Rosales though! How is taking the division leader into the tenth inning before losing the 3 game sweep laying an egg?No, I am talking about pitching, not team play. This thread was started a week ago, with top of the league pitching stats in mind, only to have the starters come out and give up big games. When I made this comment it wasn't with W's and losses in mind. Since the thread was started, David Weathers came out and gave up 3 runs in one inning (previously 0 runs), Volquez gave up 7 runs in 6 2/3 innings, Arroyo gave up 9 runs in ONE inning, and Micah Owings gave up 4 runs in 5 innings. Reds pitching has dropped to 8th in team ERA, 10th in wins, 14th in innings pitched, and is only 14th in strike outs. Given the talent on this team and the kind of stuff they have, I can't see how they are so far down the list in strike outs. Harang has definitely lost his touch in that category. He is 22 strike outs behind first place. Just a couple of years ago he was #1 in the NL with 218. With that said, I still love this pitching staff, but the point I was trying to make is, this team is still young enough that you are going to see this rollercoaster type of pitching. Unfortunately, until they start making the bad games 4-5 run games instead of 7-9 run games, this team is not going to make the playoffs. ArmyBengal
Weathers is garbage and have been saying so for a long time now. I went to a game against the Cubs at the end of the 2007 season when I was home on midtour and the Reds were up. Then in comes Weathers and I was saying how he was going to lose the game for them and sure enough, the Reds ended up losing after Weathers blew it. I was yelling VERY loudly and people were looking at me like I was crazy and were trying to convince me how good Weathers really was.Needless to say, I'm still nowhere near convinced he's anything other than sh*tty.
