Bengals on the Clock Today on NFL Network

Um..it says in the post that we get the second by trading down to the 10-12 spot. Barwin is a late first early second prospect at this point and it is not unreasonable for him to drop to us early in the second.

Look...Maualuga will be available at the 12th pick for example. Mack will be available at #28. Barwin may or may not be available when we pick at 38 but if he is not Robert Ayers might be or Larry English any would be a great impact on this team. Robinson would likely be available in the middle second (GBN Report has him going #63 to Arizona in their latest Mock). Greene is listed as a solid 3rd round pick in most sites but there again Ringer or Jennings would work just as well, perhaps better (Jennings I believe will go before us which is why I choose Greene if I had the option I would take Jennings over Greene). Lang is a good bet to be there for our second 3rd rounder. Knox is currently listed as a 4th or 5th round prospect (but then again so was Simpson this time last year). Deangelo Smith is a bit of a reach to still be there in the 5th (he is currently holding a 4th round value) but he performed badly at both his combine and his pro day so his stock is currently slipping. Huber will likely go in the 6th round as will Quinn Johnson. The 7th rounders are always gambles. Underwood is currently holding a 7th round grade but is likely to fly up draft boards on draft day because of his size and speed combo, though his poor senior season still might keep him down. Munnerlyn is currently slated as a priority free agent and King is listed as a tweener at 280 who isn't athletic enough to be an everydown player at any position which will likely keep him at a late round prospect.

As for the trades, it all depends on the draft. If Sanchez is still there, and reports are that the Broncs are in love with him, then they need to trade up and trading the 48th pick for a move from 12 to 6 jives with the current trade value chart so it is not unreasonable to swing that deal because Sanchez will not last past the 49ers at 10. If Sanchez goes before us and Stafford does as well this is all a moot point because one of the top four will slide to us and we will stay were we are, in which case we will likely take Stintim at #38 or grab which ever WR slides to us and hope that Stimtim, Brinkley, Beckwith falls to us in the third. Ocheta y Cinco is widely rumored to be traded to the Eagles at 28 or the Giants at 29 either will work if we want Mack but Mack is likely not to fall past the Steelers at 32. We could also potentially get Beatty or Britton at 28 but frankly I think Mack is the better prospect.

The Bengals have a great potential in this draft. I think they can swing a deal for Chad (and they should as they should have last year), I don't think that means they have to run out and immediately grab a first round WR because there is good depth at that position in the 3rd or 4th guys like Ramses Barden, Juaquin Iglesias, Johnny Knox or Sean Smith (yes I know he is listed as a DB but he is a much better WR prospect, check it out at Pro Football Weekly) have as great a potential as guys like Kenny Britt or Hakeem Nicks and while Crabtree and Maclin are the class of the position are they really that much better prospects, Tiquan Underwood (a 7th round prospect) is 6'1" (just slightly shorter than Crabtree and taller than Maclin) is faster than both and was playing in a system with a piss poor QB and was second fiddle to Britt (see T.J.) and while he is not the sure thing the other two players are he can be had in the 7th round! I would love to see Maclin on the Bengals, we could use his speed and elusiveness both as a receiver and as a PR/KR but would I rather see Eugene Monroe or Rey Maualuga, heck yes! And as for taking a WR in the late first, ask yourself who would you rather see Darius Heywood-Bey, Kenny Britt, Hakeem (I scored a 7 on the the wonderlic) Nicks or Alex Mack the guy who grades out as the best prospect at his position in the last 5 years by many evaluators at a position where we have a glaring weakness.

The Bengals have to be smart and creative (which is admittedly alot to ask from this organization given past history) but a draft like this is possible and it WOULD lead to a Super Bowl Title IMHO.

I'm starting to have that QUEASY feeling in my stomach. You know that one where there would appear to be ALL sorts of opportunities to get some really good players in the draft only to have your team draft a whole bunch of players you have barely heard of only to have them claim they had them rated very high on the draft board ??

This year just has all the makings of the type of draft that could set this team up for some serious contention considerations.

I just HOPE AND PRAY they don't f*cking blow it !!!

With the Bengals 2nd round pick they select Quan Cosby, WR, Texas

While I wouldn't mind the 27 year old rookie in the 7th, I could just see some stupid sh*t like that happening...

Does anyone else remember exactly where they were when Sean Brewer's name was called?

Yes I was at BW3s at 1530's Draft Party and I was mad as hell. but not nearly as mad as I was when the Bengals called out Akili Smith's name, I was at the BOB's draft party and I was so mad I could barely speak a sentance without cursing. Tom Gamble put me on the air with the condition that I would watch my language and I couldn't even finish my thoughts without cursing.

Bengals draft day and post draft stages of emotions:

1. DISBELIEF - "How could the Bengals pass on (obvious player at a position of need here) for (Bengals drafted player here, who not only does not fill a need, but is not even the clear BPA)?"

2. ACCEPTANCE - "The Bengals say that (drafted player here) was their #1 target all along and was right there in the group of guys they were looking at with the pick."

3. SKEPTICISM - "(Drafted player here) is very far down on the depth chart and doesn't look like he'll be a factor this year. I guess we'll know for sure what kind kind of player he'll be next season."

4. BUYERS REMORSE - "(Drafted player here) sucks and I knew we should've drafted (Pro Bowler that was passed on, in many cases within picks of the player drafted by the Bengals)!"

Mark my words:

If Chad is traded, Crabtree will be the pick at 6. I think that will be the only way Mike Brown will allow Ocheta y Cinco to be traded. I think he will say we lose Chad, we pick up Crab. And that other first round pick should be the tackle or center. I would take Mack, then Meredith in the second.

I forget who said it but whoever did said that we need to draft quality over quanity. That means that 11 of our picks wont all make the team so we might have to trade up and trade picks to get the good guys. So if we dont trade Chad we should try to trade up in the late first to take Mack. IMO.

I still don't see us getting a 1st round draft pick for Chad, but stranger things have happened. I will admit that it appears Chad has played his final game for the Bengals.

Drafting any WR would make me lose more confidence in Mike Brown. I think Coles, Simpson, Caldwell, Henry and the rest will be fine as long as we're able to keep #9 upright. I would like to see us get a return specialist later in the draft, though.
