I think it's fair to say the consensus opinion about which draft strategy the Bengals are most likley to use has for months been centered on DRAFTING MULTIPLE OFFENSIVE LINEMAN.

And while we've busied ourselves weighing all of the other options, some more realistic than others, the consensus opinion has never really changed, has it? The groupspeak can still be heard loudly chanting..."best OT in the 1st round, best OC in the 2nd!"

Agree or disagree, but if that really is the plan then it's not accurate to claim they don't have a replacement for Willie and Stacey.

2 rookies on the oline spells disaster. That is the scenario you are describing.

All that's left to be decided is who that replacement will be. And while we all loved the idea of adding a veteran OC....there has always been another option, right?

Yep. The other option being to start 2 rookies on the oline. Which always spells disaster.

So now we all wait for the draft, some more patiently than others.

"And with the 6th pick of the 2009 NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select... Offensive Ta-...wait a minute, there has been a change. With the 6th pick the Cincinnati Bengals select... RB Knowshon Moreno... Georgia."

...and Mike Brown is seen quietly exiting the back door of the draft room.

Seriously though. It has nothing to do with the draft or having patience for it. The Bengals had their window of opportunity. It was early in free agency and they needed to hit a home run. But you know how it goes. A lot of waiting, a bit of hand-wringing, a lowball offer or two, then pick up whatever scraps remain.

The draft, on the other hand, is supposed to be for depth. Anyone banking on the draft to fill gaping holes at starting positions... well, who-dey, I'll put it that way.

Yeah, I do know how it goes. I know the Bengals rarely even attempt to hit a home run in FA. Furthermore, I know their long history of constantly and often unwisely swinging for the fences in the draft.

Not for this team, and certainly not at #6 and #38.

As much as I hate to agree with my sweety Hair - we need 2 or more rookie starters out of this draft, pretty much just like every damn year.

The only difference this year is that the starters *mostly* need to be on offense rather than defense

I'm suggesting that they can let Willie or Stacy walk, but letting them both walk is stupid when they have no one to replace either with.

-Willie Anderson was let go last year, so has nothing to do with what we could do now.

-Your upset that we let Stacey walked? I Know it's only a stat but the guy was ranked 31st in sacks given up and wasn't a dominate run blocker.

Yep. The other option being to start 2 rookies on the oline. Which always spells disaster.

-Jets went 10-6 with 2 rookie offensive linemen in D'brick and Nick Mangold.

-It also spells getting ready for future and building continuity in our Oline...Say we draft a center & tackle

-Rookie Tackle or Rookie

-Whitworth

Rookie Center

Bobbie Williams (future nate livings)

Antony Collins or Rookie

Well it may not be the most dominate Oline next year It could it being serviceable enough and upgrade over last years...plus minus bobbie williams they will more likely be playing togather for next 4-5 years.

PS,Well most wanted Birk & Brown, before free agency most everyone was fine with the idea of taking a highly ranked center and starting day one...Vet talk started up a possibility to give us opitions in the draft...Hell being that we wearn't going to bring in Brown or Birk I'm happy we didn't get a veteran center because had we signed some crappy nobody they we may have felt the need to put center off till round 4 or 5...so maybe increases our chances of getting a center in round 2 instead...

I'm MORE than ok with the thought of taking the best Center available in the top of the 2nd. I'm more than ok with him starting from day one.

Something else I'm warming to (won't say I'm more than ok with it) is not taking an OT until later. Maybe the 3rd. I have made the comment that if they are truly looking for a RT as opposed to a LT, they can get one in the 3rd and be ok with that pick.

Which is what I like sound of taking nice Defensive stud in the 1st =) Then Woods or Unger in the 2nd and maybe player like Fenuki Tupou in the 3rd...

Seems like a bengal thing to do take Unger and Fenuki Tupou ^_^

Problem with this is our :| injury/bust ratio on picks...losing entire classes almost like 2005....
