Clackwoods
Give Him a 4 year $6 mill a year a deal and get this over with.Sounds great to me.....How about this alternative that I just came up with....Actually three alternativesAlternative 1-Select Crabtree at number 6 and trade Chad for a first and select a RB in round 1 and an OLmen with our second rounderAlternative 2- Select Crabtree at number 6 and trade Chad along with a 3rd and 4th to San Diego for their first and LT. With the first take Oher or Smith, but if they aren't their then take Rey Rey! (Doubtful this would happen because the Chargers have Chambers, Gates, and Vincent, but hey I can be optimistic)Alternative 3-Select Crabtree at number 6 and trade Chad to the Bears for the 18th pick and select either Oher or Smith if they fall, if not take a RB and get an OL in round 2! kentjett
Coles is the kind of WR i like. He quietly goes about his business and constantly produces numbers w/ s**tty after s**tty QB. He is a better all around WR than TJ will ever be.
ArmyBengal
I'm not going to bash TJ just because he's gone, because TJ is a player. I do however think Coles would flourish here if Carson has time and stays healthy.
Baraka
i really don't think we need a wr, at least not as much as we need a center and a pass rusher, offensive line depth and a running back. why all the preoccupation with wr's? Whur CHad At?
We need a WR, badly.Select Crabtree or sign Coles. SImpole as that. Why with the TJ hating? Gotta get paid.
sparky151
i really don't think we need a wr, at least not as much as we need a center and a pass rusher, offensive line depth and a running back. why all the preoccupation with wr's? +1. It's fine with me if we sign Coles but center is our biggest need. We also need a backup QB, FB, nickel CB, and backup DT. We're actually fairly well stocked at WR. Whur CHad At?
Nicely stacked at reciever?! I hope your joking.Chatman? Simpson? Caldwell? No. Not right now. We need a vet in there.
HoTbOy
They know now that they need a WR, and LColes is a pretty good replacement for TJ, I just hope they don't lowball the man, make a decent offer and let's move on to the next hole to fill... Whur CHad At?
He wants $6 mill a year or so. Give it to him
JoePong
Right now, we have one proven WR and a bunch of question marks. I think Caldwell has a chance to be pretty good and could bring more to the offense than TJ gave us. Simpson could blossom. He showed some flashes pre-season, and maybe Henry can do more now that it looks like he has his head on straight and will be able to commit an entire off-season and training camp to football. But Coles is solid. He would be good paired with Chad, and Caldwell in the slot. That would be a pretty good trio. Bring in Henry as a deep threat and work in Simpson. Then we can dump guys like Holt who has no business onthis team.
mgilgris
No way we trade chad dont even waste your breath. I would love it but he is playing at a discount. First fill the Center void then look to WR.
BlainThePain
http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=7537A league source said that the Bengals have reached out to Coles but they couldn't get him into Cincinnati Monday because of the bad weather back East but he's expected Tuesday.Coles has played all but two of his nine NFL seasons with the Jets and has 631 of his own career catches for 8,095 yards, 18 more catches than the guy that he would play opposite in Chad Ocho Cinco. The 5-11, 193-pound Coles has a career yards per catch of 12.8 compared to Houshmandzadeh's 11.4. Houshmandzadeh's yards-per-catch has declined since his best of 3.4 in 2004, which has some analysts ripping. Coles had 12.1 each in 2006 and 2008 after 11.7 in 2007. During his first four seasons he averaged at least 14.2 yards per catch.Coles spent two seasons in Washington, 2003 and 2004, but returned to the club that drafted him in the third round out of Florida State in 2000.The Jets took Coles 74 picks after the Bengals made his college teammate and fellow wide receiver Peter Warrick the fourth pick in the draft.Coles, who has already visited Buffalo and, according to published reports, has been ruled out by the Dolphins, is reportedly seeking $6 million per year. Whur CHad At?
If we sign Coles, we can finally put away this talk about Crabtree. And, to some of you who think that we need a Center more than WR, or that we are stacked at WR. Apparantly we are not.

And, to some of you who think that we need a Center more than WR, or that we are stacked at WR. Apparantly we are not.do we have a center that can play in the nfl, let alone in the afcn? we certainly have wr's, one of which is a four time pro bowler, who has had one bad season in the last six, it just happened to have been last year. we all agree that without an offensive line, it won't matter who we have at wide receiver. it just seems like a cart before the horse situation. Whur CHad At?
I'm just saying why haven't we brought in a center yet?
HairOnFire
30 minutes ago I wasn't the least bit interested in Coles. Things change.
kentjett
This years Center class is the deapest it's been in the last ten years and the Bengals were able to see the top 3 first hand and came away impressed. Our second round pick is pre-set for either Unger, Mack or Wood. I personally like Wood but if one of the other 2 R there, they'll more than likely take one of them. If we can lure Coles, our WR core would be exceptional.
HAPPYJAQ
I like Coles but not at 6 million a season. The only way it really works is if they trade Chad. No way would he be happy with being the 2nd highest paid receiver on a team that doesn't have T.J. I still believe that Carson makes receivers better as opposed the other way around. Remember all the big plays that Henry and Holt (and even Chatman to a much lesser extent last season) made when Carson was in the game? All 3 of their games suffered without Carson, especially Glen Holt. Sign Benson as planned and use the 7 million or so offered to T.J. and sign Ward. Then, sign a stopgap veteran G/C .draft Eric Wood in round 2 and instantly improve the run game, which lessens the blow of T.J. leaving while the young receivers develop. Whur CHad At?
$6 mill a year to Coles is pretty good.
georgeoberer
Coles would be nice and would definitly put up big numbers here. I still believe we have more pressing needs. I think it's really starting to look possible that we trade down and take morony. Best RB avalible and if we could add a few OL in the second and third we could fix alot of problems right there. Who knows though it's the Bengals NO ONE knows what they are thinking I don't even know if they do...lol
Whur CHad At?
WR Nate Washington signed in Tennessee for 6 year $27 mill 9 guaranteed. Coles will prob be looking for a 4 or 5 year deal.
volcom69
I agree need to bring him now and sign this guy before he would decide to sign with Buffalo. They better look into signing O-Line help. Anybody notice how Hobson dosnt have the Bengals looking/needing o-line help in his column. They better start looking for Centers at some point. ArmyBengal
We need to spend the money on a vet Center AND draft one in the first few rounds. I would like Mack if he lasts until the top of the 2nd.I'll take Coles at a decent price. If not, roll with what we've got. Either you believe Carson really makes WR's better or you don't. Make up your mind...
