ArmyBengal
Ward is 28 going on 29 I get that. But he still has fresh legs with only really 2 years of a lot of playing time. So, he's a 28 year old in a 23 year old's body ?? Him and TJ should be visiting teams together !!! HAPPYJAQ
At this point, I'd be just as happy if we could sign Ward/Benson and a backup QB and fill the rest of the holes through the draft. Maybe even trade Chad to get even more picks and take the '09 season for the team. I think that Kansas City has done an outstanding job in the last 2 seasons in rebuilding their team and maybe we should follow their blueprint. Clackwoods
I mentioned it in another thread, but if you were Ward would you rather run behind the Broncos o-line, who you can go ahead and write in the 1000+ season OR behind a Bengals o-line that has no idea who is playing at what position with less than two months before the draft. If I was the RB, this wouldn't even be a thought. The Bengals would be nothing more than a bargaining chip. What's new ??To be fair, you're thinking of the Broncos 5 years ago. Last year their rushing game was extremely inconsistent and resulted in them throwing the ball nearly twice as often as rushing it. And Shanahan isn't there anymore with his zone blocking scheme, so who knows what you're getting there. But I understand your point. You're still talking about a team that finished in the top 2 in offensive yards compared to the team that finished dead last. I know where I'd be leaning if I were impartial...If the money is close, it's not even a question as to where he'll sign. With JJ Arrington's contract looking to be off the table now, it's a good chance he'll go there. Maybe Ryan Torrain is available. He looked pretty good for them last year before he got hurt, but who knows if it was the Shanahan scheme factor or not.I read a report earlier that he was asking for 5 years and 32 million.Looked good for them? lmfao He played 2 quarters and tore his ACL, but I did waiver wire him and he got me like 10 points before he went down. Clackwoods
i think arrington would be a perfect compliment to benson and an ace teamer. if we lose ward to the donkey's go after arrington hard and re-sign benson.Arrington? Are you serious? He is a BUM! a HUGEEEE Disappointment. I would rather take a flyer on a seventh round RB than sign him!

I think that Kansas City has done an outstanding job in the last 2 seasons in rebuilding their team and maybe we should follow their blueprint.Just maybe you would want us to wait for the results of Kansas City rebuilding their team before we follow their blueprint, last time I saw them we were beating them with a back up quarterback. Matt Cassel has not thrown a pass yet in Kansas City so he's still a big question mark, he played one good season in New England now everybody wants to annoit him as the answer down there. Sounds a lot like the Browns with Derrick Anderson last year with all the predictions that they were going to challenge Pittsburgh for the division crown and make a legit run at the playoffs; but we know how that story ended. ArmyBengal
I think he was getting at the fact that Kansas City has been making moves to improve their team and at least appear to give a sh*t that they have been crappy and don't want to be anymore. Although, hiring a GM from outside the organization has that effect on teams...If those moves pan out, good for them, if not, at least the fan base can look at it and say the organization isn't being complacent in their mediocrity... HAPPYJAQ
My question is, only 4 years and 17 million for Ward? What did the Bengals offer?I read reports that he wanted 5-6 million a seaon and that the Bengals were close.

volcom69
Yep things are going downhill fast for the bengals they are letting guys slip right through. Another sucky offseason so far, i just hope they start to fill some of holes.
mgilgris
I guess i didnt really care for ward at a high price. What do the bengals do now though. I think they were playing the game well but lost out in the end. We have GLARING needs which are not going to get any better. At this rate we will be lucky to win 3 games next year. I like to stay upbeat normally but this is horrible.
Whur CHad At?
$17 million is not a high price god damnit. People we have a lot of cap room, players aren't going to sign for peanuts. Next year is uncapped, they want to be paid.
DC_Bengals_Fan
Who do we get with the 20 million in cap space now?Same place the $10M went last year. Mikey's pocket.F*cking pathetic. We have no #2 receiver, no offensive line, no RB.

Yay go Simpson and CaldwellIt is a great move, especially if Crabtree ends up being an impact player as a rookie. Donovan McNabb made it to 3 straight NFC Championship games with absolutly no WR's. Tom Brady didn't have a dominant WR until last year. If we were to draft Crabtree we would have a solid group (Unproven, yes, but talented)CrabtreeCaldwellHenrySimpsonWe would also have the top rated back in the draftNow if you ask me if I would rather have Chad, Caldwell, Henry, and Simpson and Chris Perry than the above my answer is no.Chad becomes especially expendable if we pick up Coles (Which I think we will)

Next year is uncapped, they want to be paid.My thinking is, the 17 million was about half of what they offered for TJMy only rational explanation is thatA. Ward didn't really want to play for the Bengals to begin with.-or-B. The Bengals were hoping they could somehow fit T.J. and either Ward/Benson in with their remaining cap space and the majority of what's left was tied up in the TJ offer (minus a veteran backup QB).The fact that Ward went back to the Giants with a counter offer to back up Jacobs and afterwards not talk again to Cincinnati should tell you something. Maybe some combination of the two possibilites IMO, though.
