HoTbOy
The bottom line is that Chad didn't tank '08... His mind wasn't right and he was NOT focused. There's a big difference betweeen tanking and a lack of focus. He realizes now that Cincinnati is where he wants to be. He's ready to do work and he has enough reason to believe that TJ will also be in stripes in '09, good enough for me.. Lets forget about '08 and look forward to '09.This team has a ton of potential. Finally we have a D cordinator worth his job titile. We have young, fast, hard hitting, smart defensive players. This defense will continue to grow under Zimmer, look at what one season did. Throw in an impact MLB and a pass rushing DT and this defense is a steady 10-15 ranked D, maybe even better. Our offense needs help on the line. We need a Center. L. Jones, Whitworth, ?, B. Williams, S. Andrews can get it done. That is a solid offensive line. Without that anchor in the middle we will continue to struggle. Gaychik is NOT an anchor... Guys, we're litteraly a few players away. This team has WAY more talent than most of your '08 playoff teams.#1 pick should be Defense#2 C, OTCouldn't have said it better myself ... HairOnFire
The bottom line is that Chad didn't tank '08... His mind wasn't right and he was NOT focused. Sheesh, poster after poster lining up to say Chad wasn't focused, his mind wasn't right, he did as little as possible, didn't prepeare as he always had, appeared disinterested when he played, and was just one mentally weak manchild during the entire unproductive season. But no, he didn't tank....because he didn't suck on purpose. Instead, after finally showing up he was unfairly victimized by his fellow offensive players....who conspired to freeze out the mostly misunderstood Ocho. Wow. walzav29
Is anyone here trying to say he didn't need mini-camps and to workout in the offseason? After that interview it sounds like he isn't going anywhere. That means so long TJ. Which sucks, but who though TJ could replace Warrick? Which sucks, but who though TJ could replace Warrick?Even the dope Chad realizes he tarnished his brand last season beginning in January and ending in December. The new Chad is trying to repair the damage. He wants out but his value is low irght now. MB won't part with him for as little as he's worth. So he's trying to show he's all grown up now and will play nice for any owner that is interested. But for sure he wants out. That is the smartest thought he's had. His problem is going about it wrong last season.
walzav29
This is my biggest issue with what is going on right now. There were no poroblem with getting rid of Takeo and Dillon when Marvin 1st arrived, but now he has to keep guys he doesn't want. Who is running the show? The answer is Brown, so we're screwed. TJJackson
The bottom line is that Chad didn't tank '08...No, he quite clearly (to anyone with half a brain) did tank itHis mind wasn't right and he was NOT focused. There's a big difference betweeen tanking and a lack of focus.Err, again no. He is highly compensated to perform, and that performance requires focus. He failed to focus = he failed to do his job. He could have focused, but chose not to do so. In other words, he tanked it.He realizes now that Cincinnati is where he wants to be. He's ready to do work and he has enough reason to believe that TJ will also be in stripes in '09, good enough for me.. Lets forget about '08 and look forward to '09.Words, lies, etc. Good enough to convince a chimp. Good enough to convince you.S. Andrews can get it doneYou mean his rehab work that will almost assuredly proceed beyond the 2009 season? Maybe.Couldn't have said it better myselfNo problem, let me add you to the roster....hmm....pushy, agreen, joewrong, hotboy. ok, you're in. Jet23
I am amazed. Three plus pages analyzing what Chad said. I have an idea, wait another five minutes and the Princess will say something that totally contradicts what he spouted five minutes prior. Since I trust nothing that escapes his pie hole, I will go by what I see. Chad tanked it.....Chad didn't tank it.... it's all semantics. The bottom line is, he played like crap AND IT WAS HIS FAULT! Trade his butt for whatever you can get. If his new gig is to portray himself as a 'team player' so be it. But that will change the first time he doesn't get his way. Chad in Cincinnati is played, plain and simple. Time to go.
walzav29
For the life of me I can't understand what the Bengals have done to convince themselves they can compete with the Steelers at this point. Right now.
HairOnFire
People can call it something else if they want, but I doubt doing so will make the pill any easier to swallow. Our reality remains unchanged whether we accept it or not. This team was built around a player who has proven beyond a shadow of doubt he can and will tank it up anytime he chooses. So there it is. But there's also this. TankBoy claims he's changed. Yeah.
Jet23
For the life of me I can't understand what the Bengals have done to convince themselves they can compete with the Steelers at this point. Right now.One thing is certain, for the next year Mike Brown will not complete a sentence that does not contain the words Arizona and Cardinals. Just as he has abused words such as New, England, Patriots, Saint Louis and Rams. We just have to wait our turn. One of these days our Scout is going to land some awesome players... BengalPimp
I thought that Chad was exposed in late '06 and that has continued through '08, as the NFL discovered that bracket defenses are enough to stop Chad, due to his reluctance to go across the middle anymore. He makes all of his catches outside of the numbers, so teams put a safety over the top with a LB in the intermediate area and a CB jumping the short passes. You Know What Stops That? A FRIGGIN RUNNING GAME....Something we havent had in a couple of years.........Chad Exposed? HA! Our running game was exposed, around the same time you say Chad was. TJ hasnt gotten anything Deep, neither has Henry in a couple of years....Its NOT Chad, its the inability to run the ball, thus allowing the safeties to play deep, rather than come up to stop the run, and the INEPTITUDE of Bratkowski to design anything to combat the cover 2/ Tampa 2 defenses. So go ahead and blame Chad, call him what you want, and never mind the fact that regardless of what he said before, the dude still played all season with an injured shoulder. That lack of a running game didn't stop Fitzgerald and Boldin from racking up record setting numbers this year. And Housh has been incredibly consistent for 5 years running now. Chad... no so much.THEY HAD KURT WARNER....WE HAD RYAN FITZPATRICK....DUH

agreen_112
tj seemed to do fine with the same crappy qb and o-line.you're right... tj's the sparkplug, he's a possession reciever. he would still get his catches if Jeff Blake was QB... Chad's a route runner, a finese wr who needs timing. Fitzpansy can't hit timing routes nor is he smart enough to see chad's option routes.Chad needs Palmer like a fat kid needs cake! ArmyBengal
I think that's really the biggest difference in why you have such a variance in production and why it's not as easy as it appears to just say, "TJ did better with the same crappy team". ArmyBengal
I will also agree that it wouldn't bother me in the least to not have an offseason that revolved around all the BS that usually surrounds Chad.If he happened to get traded, I wouldn't miss the drama. That being said, once again, I fully expect him to be in Stripes this coming season.
HairOnFire
... Chad's a route runner, a finese wr who needs timing. And how is he supposed to do his part if by all accounts he didn't train as he always had, didn't work out with teammates unless absolutely required, didn't stay awake during meetings, or any other thing you want to pull from an ever growing laundry list of grossly unprofessional behavior? Tank.
HairOnFire
I'm suddenly reminded how traditional is the football nickname of "Tank", and wondered if perhaps the nickname should be revived and added to the already impressive number of Chadwickian tags. Chad "Tank" Johnson One mocking word that says almost everything there is to say about Chad, yet somehow manages to make him seem a little less pussified. Nice.
