HAPPYJAQ
Just watched The NFL Network's coverage of the Senior Bowl and they had an interview with Marvin, coaching the North this year. I went back and looked at the rosters he coached the last time he was in Mobile in '04 and wondered about all the players that he had a first-hand look at that we missed:Michael Turner, RB, N. IllinoisChris Cooley,TE, Utah StateNick Hardwick, C, PurdueShane Olivea, OG, Ohio StateTravis LaBoy, DE, HawaiiShaun Phillips, DE, PurdueDemorrio Williams, LB, NebraskaBob Sanders, S, IowaNate Kaeding, K, Iowa.....and this was just on the North Squad. Guys who have had decent to great careers so far and were mid-round picks, with the exception of Sanders, who was a 2nd round pick, I believe. Also in Mobile that year on the South squad were:Philip Rivers, QB, NC StateMatt Schaub, QB, VirginiaGreg Jones, RB, Florida StateMewelde Moore, RB, TulanaJerricho Cotchery, WR, New York GiantsDevery Henderson, WR, LSUBen Watson, TE, GeorgiaJaks Grove, C, Virginia TechSean Lockhlear, OT, NC StateDarnell Dockett, DT, Florida StateTommy Kelly, DT, Mississippi St.Dontarrious Thomas, LB, AuburnNathan Vasher, CB, TexasWe did manage to add Madieu Williams, Keiwan Ratliff and Greg Brooks (all on the South squad) through the draft and Kyle Larson and Ronnie Ghent is UDFA's. Two of those players (Williams and Ratliff) were called "reaches" at the point in which they were drafted, indicated that the Bengals felt they had a better read on those players that the draft analysts did. Clearly, the Senior Bowl is a great opportunity to evaluate talent but the Bengals obviously missed out on a lot of good players that could've been helping the team right now. We basically the same coaching staff in tact, I hope that the Bengals do a better job of scouting players this time around.

AMC
Well considering the Bengals had 100 picks that year, your theory holds true.

Exactly what I was thinking....everybody's a genius after the fact.Doesn't matter whether he coached the Senior Bowl or not, his drafts have be mediocre at best, lousy otherwise. See 2005 in comparison to 2004 for lousy drafts. That is the main reason this team has been falling apart since 11-5 in 2005 IMHO. Not enough impact players from his drafts. Marvin didn't do a very good job painting Mike Brown's office either, so don't be too hard on him. He's stretched pretty thin.
