ArmyBengal
I will say it again, I just don't see who would come into here and replace Marvin. That being said, who would WANT to unless they were young and wanting to get their foot in the door ?? With all of that discussion Mike Brown is still the owner... So who do you want to replace Marvin ?? Anyone ?? Anyone ??Who do I want? Well it will never happen in a million years but I would want Mike Shanahan. The only stipulation i'd want on the guy is you can't fire assistants without a DAMN good reason. Make him HC/OC and give him the power Marvin supposedly was to have apon coming here. Why Shanahan? Because as cheap as MB is he is the only experienced HC I can think of who would have regular success under the Mikey System. But it'll never happen. Even if Brown suddenly realized "hey I can name this guy GM, JC, AND OC keeping the seats filled and save money but not having to actually hire a real GM or pay an OC, this is cheaper then paying Lewis and Brat!" Shanny wouldn't accept and come here. He'd probably die from lack of oxygen due to laughing so hard over being asked to come interview. My post was made prior to Shanarat being canned, but I still covered the possibility by making the comment of, "who would WANT to ?"... I can't see Shanarat even considering this move.

I can't see Shanarat even considering this move. The 'who would want to' actually isn't that hard to figure out. Anybody like Marinelli or Crennel, or maybe even Mangini, would want to come here because they all came from bad circumstances and still want to prove themselves. SoP would hire someone like the aforementioned because they would probably work cheap just for the second chance and not be too demanding. Or the next young college coach that will work cheap and come into the NFL thinking he can solve the problems of the (Bengals) world. An established, track record proven coach like Shanahan is not coming here. Cowher is not coming here. Parcells is not coming here. Nobody on this forum believes otherwise. In answer to the actual thread--Marvin's future holds two more years in NFL purgatory, fulfilling his contract because neither side will break it. He will continue to exhibit the apparent apathy about this team he showed this year--not because he has no pride in his work, but because he realizes the futility of this situation. After his contract, he'll latch on as a coordinator, or coach in the college ranks, not because an NFL team won't want him. I think he'll have NFL suitors, since most teams won't blame him for the Bengals' failures. He'll want a break from NFL head coaching just because this experience has been so horrendous.Or...he'll fulfill his contract and leave coaching altogether, opening up a chain of restaurants or going into business with Willie Anderson with his Fatburgers.Either way, he's a decent guy that has deserved better, and I support him completely. ArmyBengal
I guess I would take the stance of if I was coming from a bad situation I would be hard pressed to jump into another one. Especially one that wouldn't help me regain respectability. With all attempts to "prove something" they have to know the odds would immediately be stacked against them with Brown steering the ship.I still say the only type of coach we could get would be a first year coach trying to get his foot in the coaching door. I'll take my chances with Marvin for a couple more years...
