BengalPimp
Brooks will be used as a 3rd down pass rusher, he does not have what it takes between the ears to be an every down player.I think he has what it takes between the ears, HOWEVER, I dont think he has what it takes between his legs (e.g. the Groin Pulls). HoTbOy
I hope that KRivers turns out to be the LB we need to put the fear of God in people, you know how when RLewis was in his prime...The LB's we have don't inspire any of that...They can run and cover and make tackles for losses every now and then, but who lays the wood on a ballcarrier running up the middle or WR coming cross the middle...OThurman was getting there but we know how that ended, BSimmons was ok but not spectacular...I also liked LJohnson, I thought he should have had BSimmons spot a couple of years ago... HAPPYJAQ
I'm not sure on Rivers. By most accounts, he and Rogers-Cromartie were the best players at the Senior Bowl. It was reported that the "light went on" when he was being coached up there by Singletary (who is looooonng overdue in getting a HC gig in the NFL). He's coming off an average season at USC but he was also maybe the third-best LB there on a LOADED defense. I think he'll be at least as good as Jon Beason, as they are more similar, recent draft picks. I also think the comparison to Simmons is valid, although I would give Rivers a slight edge in the athleticism department. I think Dhani Jones will be good, if not spectacular, at MLB. The other OLB spot and depth remain the biggest question marks. Mavin is raving about the two LB's from AZ and especially Brandon Johnson. I saw him play a lot in college at Louisville and he was raw but EXTREMELY athletic at the time. He's also a 4.4 guy at about 6-5 and 230. I still think the Blackstock signing was good, too. I like to see defensive players in contract years. My hope is that Brooks can have a break out season this year.
Ickey44
I would love for Brooks to be healthy so we can see what he can do. He did very well in the opener last year, and that was all we got to see of him. I'm hoping he can play like that every game.
agreen_112
Maybe it'll be B. Johnson, A. Brooks/D. Jones, Rivers. I wanna see the youngsters take over this defense. Ahmad is a beast, maybe too much of a beast to be playing LB. Hopefully he makes me completely forget about a guy named Odell Thurman. Bobcat Bengal
Jeanty will start over A Brooks, no doubt in my mind. Jeanty stops the run like a mother.pssh....tell that to Marshawn Lynch.

derekshank
Is it just me... or is Dhani Jones their only option at MLB? Who are they even going to put in there if he needs a breather, let alone an injury? Move Brooks back to the middle? They are moving him to SSLB for a reason. I really don't like the depth there. I like Jeanty and Brooks on the strong side. I like Rivers at WSLB and am merely okay with Johnson as his backup... but I'm pretty damn nervous about Jones at MLB - especially as the only option there.Once again... the main problem with the LB's is the depth. A couple injuries and they are sunk. Even if everyone stays healthy I'm not sure it's all that great. Rivers a rookie, Jones learning a new position, and Brooks making a move. I just don't have much reason to be optimistic about this group. Let's sure hope that D-Line comes together well and the secondary keeps improving, because these LB's could be trouble waiting to happen. Thurman, Merriman, Tatupa, Patrick Willis). I think Rivers will do just fine with the starting postion. The other two spots though.. jeez. I hope Brooks can stay healthy and adapts well to Zimmers scheme.
HAPPYJAQ
The Bengals must hope they can land a waiver-wire veteran LB. No way can they hope that Mays can play in the event that Dhani is hurt/ineffective. Or maybe they're counting on Brooks. Schlegal (gasp) must be on speed dial. LB has been a major priority in the Marvin era. It's just a lot of bad luck. But right now letting Landon Johnson go seems like a pretty bad move. Hell... I'd even feel a little bit better with Caleb Miller back there. That shows you how desperate the situation has become.

I think letting Landon go was just inevitable. He's not a starter and was going to get that offer from another team that was desperate. I also really believe that the two LB's from Arizona will be an upgrade, not to mention getting a proven LB coach who has had tremendous success taking virtual no names and turning them into solid players. I don't miss Caleb Miller and think that of the two guys from AZ one at least has to stick as depth, possibly with a little upside. Landon I liked (but didn't LOVE), but definitely can see the problem with him wanting to get locked into a decent contract. Hopefully, he will be suitably replaced by the 100 or so guys we had in mandatories.

derekshank
How about another Buckeye... Bobby Carpenter in a trade before camp? Never could see him in a pure 3-4...I was talking to a Cowboys friend of mine and he can't figure out why they don't have any faith in Carpenter whatsoever... but there has to be a reason. You don't just sit a 1st rounder on the bench with that kind of money unless something is wrong. Something must be wrong. Coming out of college I actually liked him more than Hawk... but that only shows that I don't know what I'm talking about. He probably wouldn't be any more help than Schlegel was.
