" BENGALS "ELATED" WITH PALMER

A league source tells us that the Cincinnati Bengals are "elated" with the performance of quarterback Carson Palmer at the team's first mandatory minicamp, which started Friday and ended Sunday.

Last year, Palmer was parked on the bench while Jon Kitna almost took the Bengals to the playoffs. Though Kitna is sticking around, there's no dispute or controversy in the Queen City -- the reins have been handed to Palmer, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 draft.

And based on the results of the minicamp, Palmer is ready to play like it.

"He's got the most skill and ability of anybody we've got in the building," Marvin Lewis said after Friday's practice. "

Bengals - QB Palmer Ahead of QB Couch

One NFL insider who was in Cleveland during Tim Couch's first two seasons - and now in Cincinnati as Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer enters his second season - suggests Palmer has already progressed far more than Couch had by year two. "

Majority opinion last year was that Palmer shouldn't be rushed. He wasn't, and now I think we're going to reap the benenfits of letting him learn from the sidelines for a year.

Like I said on other posts, with the background checking that coach Lewis did on him .... this doesn't surprise me at all. :player:

Have to credit Marvin and Co. for being able to land Ken Zampese as quarterbacks coach. This guy is going to become one hell of a coordinator in years to come. He did wonders with Trent Green, Kurt Warner, Marc Bulger, John Kitna actually looked like a starting quarterback last year, and now with Carson Palmer, Cincy' should reap the benefits for the next 10 + years!

Ken Zampese = next Shanahan.

As a Falcon fan, I'm glad we sat Vick his first season because he was no where close to an NFL level QB. I believe Palmer will be happier he sat his first year as well. Most QBs that don't sit there rookie year later say that it benefited but I believe that's just them trying to make up for the a$$ whoopin' they more than likely got. Most rookie QBs that start have losing records and really got nothing out of their first year that they wouldn't have got in their second. Vick and Pennigton both sat (Pennington sat like two years) and when they came in they set the league on fire and both are priming to set the league on fire again. I believe Palmer will not put up the flashiest of numbers but you'll be happier that he knows where his options are on the field w/o searching for them since he knows the playbook and has watched film heavily.

If we had the Steelers or Browns' defenses I would be scared. As is, unless your QB is named Favre or Hasselbeck, I'm okay.

Actually, we'll get a nice comparison between a first round qb who sat a year and one who got playing time. Of course, you have better receivers, but we'll see how Boller and Palmer play.

we are winning the division. Arizona, stop comparing your crappy no arm quarterback to ours. Boller wont even make it through the season as a starter.

There is no comparison between the two...Boeller shouldn't have been a 1st round QB...Billick got a major chubby for him when he saw him throw the ball on his knees...that's his biggest claim to fame...He could throw a ball on his knees...Big deal. Carson earned his spot on the field...

As for playing time...Boeller lost his team last year and then, even when he was healthy his coach wouldn't start him....sounds like a winner to me

Kevnz, are you retarded? Seriously, if you are I'll be nice, but otherwise...are you retarded?

The knock on Boller is a lack of consistency, not his arm. He has a better arm and is more athletic than Palmer. That is indisputable. You want to write off the 60 yard throw from his knees that's fine, but your boy Palmer couldn't do it, so lay off. Boller didn't lose the team, he lost the integrity of the tendon holding his quad to his knee joint. Furthermore, it wouldn't have been fair to the team to switch quarterbacks when he was healthy, seeing as we had to keep up momentum for the playoffs.

Seriously guys, prepare yourself for Palmer have some trouble. It's inevitable unless your name is Marino.

Interesting tidbit about Boller:

His head coach at Cal worked extensively on his game and he made remarkable progress in just a season. Jeff Tedford got the job at Cal for his work on Mike Bellott's staff at Oregon, which featured his astonishing transformation of a "project" into a first round pick named Akili Smith.

Ha-Ha!

Good one!

Eat crow Arizona, or make that Raven!

You better keep your defense healthy, because Boller can't carry the load.... :player:

Let's see here:

Boller has arguably the league's best running game, the best tight end, the best defense, and the best special teams. He doesn't have to carry anything. Ask Trent Dilfer.

Palmer has a great receiver and two other good ones, two pretty good runningbacks (ill give perry the benefit of the doubt) and a decent defense and decent special teams.

Even if Palmer is "better" that won't translate into more wins for you guys.

Palmer HAS to make plays. Boller has to make a 7 yard completion on 3rd and 5.

I like Palmer but you guys are really kidding yourselves about Boller's resume versus Palmer's. If im not mistaken Palmer was pretty questionable until he worked with Norm Chow his senior year?

So now what's the difference between he and Boller?

Both one year wonders?? Can anybody dispute me on this??

Palmer was a great freshamn in college and had to overcome the setbacks of Paul Hackett's revolving door of offensive systems... Chow fine-tuned a man who was born and raised to play this position. Boller was not even a good QB his senior year!!! Did you watch Pac-10 football that year??? The guy got drafted because he could throw a ball 50 yards from one knee. With Justin Smith knocking him down, that could be a vital attribute now that I think of it... :player:

Okay, we'll take this poll as fact, but two weeks from now when they ask who will win the AFC North and the Bengals come in third, don't write these polls off as crap. You can't have it both ways.

These pools are all pure speculation, and really don't mean a damn thing. What really matters is what happens on the gridiron come the beginning of the season! B)

but Boeller can't even make those 7yards grabs...And what's up with the name calling? I never ripped Boellers arm...Only his actual ability...Another poster ripped his arm....

He did lose his team...As good as the defense was doing, the offense sucked badly and the team was pissed. If boeller hadn't have been injured your team would have imploded.

Heap isn't the best TE in the game.

Damn, with all of those best things you have and your 8 probowlers you guys must have really chocked to not actually win a playoff game.

One more thing. Who actually throws the ball on his knees? Give me a break. That is the most useless skill I've ever heard someone get credit for.

One year wonder. Not true. Had Palmer left his junior year he would have gone no later than the 3rd round. But he stayed in, had some consistancy on his offense, and he played his way into the first round. Boeller got on his knees to get to the first round.

I find the Akili Smith references entertaining. Akili Smith is the definition of Bengals futility. Based on your track record drafting you should worry about Palmer. Where are your last 10 1st round picks? Here's how ours break down:

Ogden: Best LT in the game

Ray Ray: Best defender in the game

Boulware: Pro-Bowl outside LB

Starks: starter (granted for arizona)

McAlister: Pro-Bowl corner, arguably the best in the game

Jamal Lewis: Best running back in the game

Travis Taylor: Average starter

Heap: Pro-Bowler, arguably the best TE in the game

Reed: Pro-Bowler, arguably the best SS in the game

Suggs: Defensive rookie of the year

Boller: Jury's out due to injury.

Based on that, I think he'll be okay. The worst guy on that list is Taylor, and that's b/c he isn't a Pro-Bowler. A Ravens first round pick that isn't a probowl player is a bust. That's the world we live in. You guys have a superstar in chad johnson, we've got 10 of him.

Damn Zona, with so many best players in the NFL how come you guys didn't win a playoff game???? You are over inflating those guys....or the rest of the team must really really suck.

10 superstars versus our 1 and you only won 2 more games than us?

Ahhhh,it's so nice to see an unbiased opinion...

Ogden the best LT?Some would say Orlando Pace.

Ray Lewis-I'll give you that.

Jamal lewis the best RB?Only in a league without Ahman Green,Clinton Portis,Priest Holmes, etc. He's a pro bowler, but doesn't seperate himself from the other good backs.

Heap arguably the best TE?Nah,not even close.Gonzalez is the best TE.

McCalister arguably the best corner?Again, not even close. There is no one outside of Baltmore who would choose him over Champ Bailey.

Reed makes his first pro-bowl and he's the best SS in football?
