Sampson to resign

It's finally reached a conclusion. Kelvin Sampson will resign while pocketing a $750K buyout.

Personally I have no feelings about him one way or the other but I think the whole situation stinks. This situation is very typical and one of the reasons I am not enamored with college sports.

First of all the school will get penalized for some length of time which may take awhile to recover from. At some point Sampson (or insert name of another deposed coach) will resurface and gain a multi million dollar deal. I believe that the coach of the punished team should also face some type of sanction whether he is still an employee of that school or not.

Second is that the kids that Sampson recruited are bound to the school even though he is gone. I believe there should be some type of immediate release for these guys. I know the school is footing the bill so some might say that the kid is indebted to the school. But I argue that in many if not most cases the kid came to that particular school because of the coach. I think the same should apply if the coach moves on to take a better job. See Bob Huggins at UC for one example and KState for a 2nd example.

Lastly and probably most irritating is that the guy get 3/4 million dollars for f**king up the program. Can I have that job? Some poor schmoe in a factory or at Burger King gets canned might get just enough to get by until he lands his next job. Personally I think Sampson should get nothing at all. In fact I think he owes the university some of his pay.
