In defense of Chad Johnson...

I like Chad, and he's a great football player, but he needs to be checked. All this s**t could be avoided if Marvin had the heart to just tell him to just shut the hell up and get in line when it's necessary. I wish it was TJ rubbing off on him and not vice-versa.

People get confused, and think CJ is a "gangster" because of his gold teeth. Whatever. I wish he was more of gangster like TJ, and I'll elaborate on that. TJ's been my favorite player ever since the playoff game against the Steelers. I'm sure you guys remember when Ike Taylor and the rest of their secondary surrounded him after every single play, and he pretty much had to fight just to get back to the huddle. But he shook them off. And he scored that touchdown and threw the ball down in their faces, a ood ol' "f*ck you" gesture, which I certainly enjoyed. If you hit TJ in the mouth, he's gonna get you back for it. Chad is one of the best route runners in the NFL, but he falls down every time he catches the ball because he doesn't want to get hit. He doesn't have the desire and tenacity that TJ has. If Chad would just put his head dow nand work, there wouldn't be any issues. I don't give a s**t about the celebrations. I just hate that he shows up Carson every time he misses him, and even whines at Carson when he drops catchable passes. It's annoying.

I agree with you on the part about his antics are annoying. I don't agree with on the dropping to the ground to avoid a hit. Even your biggest WR's in the NFL do it, TJ does it. Who wants to get hit? Plaxico did it in the SB... Chad had the first bad season of his career, and by bad it was still good statistically... I get tired of the antics myself at times but his ability outweighs the antics IMO.

What the hell is the definition of up-surd?

It's not a word people use, with the JoeWrongs and Agreens of the world excepted, naturally

Its a message board, not english class douchebags! Give the guy a break. Do you always have to be so negative? Why do you waste so much space with meaningless posts?

In this case "its" is a contraction of "it is" and isn't the possesive pronoun so there should be an apostrophe after the t. ;)

Excellent, thanks for the lesson. I am now a smarter Bengals fan thanks to Pidge.

On 4th and 17 vs. the stealers, Chad danced out of bounds 3 yards short of the first down to avoid a hit, effectively turning the football and the game over to the stealers. Great players generally put winning over avoiding hits. Not in this case and it was perfectly acceptable to you.

Christ, does your man-love for Chad know no bounds.

During the prime time Bengal/49er game announcers Marshall Faulk and Deion Sanders spoke at some length about Chad's reputation around te NFL for avoiding contact, claiming that Chad's poor YAC production is a direct result of him looking "for a soft spot to land" immediately after making catches over the middle, and they implied it's no accident how often he slips and falls in those situations. They also suggested his lower than expected TD production is a direct result of the above, and speculated Chad would score far more often if he had the same "killer instinct" as a Steve Smith or others.

Quite honestly I think Chad has confirmed all of this. Each year he promises to improve his YAC production and blocking, but it's fair to say he never does. Plus, he often brags about how he's only taken 5 hard hits over his entire career....something that would be impossible if he weren't so quick to slip and fall after making grabs on crossing routes.

Bottom Line: Chad may offer lip service about the things he needs to improve upon, but his actions are those of a player who is completely satisfied with his performance.

TJ takes huge shots on a more than constant basis, and gets right back up and plays right after that. When Chad takes a huge shot he gets carted off in an ambulance for no apparent medical reason.

I'm bumping this one only because I didn't want to start a new Chad thread.

In fact, I even hesitate to pass this along.

Drew Rosenhaus was interviewed on ESPN's First Take this morning. The thrust of the interview dealt with free agency and the numerous players he represents, but near the end he was asked about Chad Johnson. Rosenhaus admitted..."the Bengals are adamant about not trading Chad"...and as a result all trade talk has come to a halt.

He then added that he would..."continue to work behind the scenes to make something happen."
