SteelerFan87 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 It seems the rallying cry for Pats fans, now that they've choked and everyone is laughing at them, is "You're just jealous because we've been so good." They back this up with the fact that everyone hates the Yankees too.So, to see if it's true that America hates winners, let's see how many successful teams we all hate:Do you hate the 00's Patriots?Did you hate the 90's Cowboys?Did you hate the 80's 49ers?Did you hate the 70's Steelers?Did you hate the 60's Packers? (If you were alive then, lol)Did you hate Jordan's Bulls? If you can think of other dynasties to add to the list, please do. Quote
Pidge Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 There is always jealousy and envy of whichever team happens to be dominating any sport in any country of the world. The Pats seem to attract far more bile than usual though. No idea why that is specifically. People will bring up the spygate thing but even before that many had a special spot for them.I don't mind 'em that much myself.Maybe it's the fact that they've achieved this success under the cap rules/FA etc. They have to abide by the same economic system and structure as the 31 other franchises. The fact that the other 31 franchises, except probably the Colts, haven't found a way of doing this might frustrate the hell out of other fans who then lash out at the Pats as opposed of questioning those choices made by those running their own team of choice. It would the easier thing to do after all and would make imminent success seem a little closer than it actually is in reality.*shrug* Quote
AMC Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Don't mind the Pats. Just don't like Belichick. But this year they seemed to outdo themselves with their arrogance.I didn't even hate the 80s Niners. It's more respect with them. The 70s Steelers? May be another matter! Quote

MacD BengalFan Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 If you can think of other dynasties to add to the list, please do.Duncan's Spurs! (1999-present) Yankees - everyone thinks the World Series trophy should already go to them! I hate hearing about them in the media, as if they are they the only team in the Majors. Quote

Dimster28 Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 i dont hate pats becz i hate winners, i hate them for long time since my 2nd fav team is dolphins, of course the superbowl is sweet for me as dolphins still a only undefeated team, only team i will cheer for new undefeated team in history is bengalsonly team i reallly hate is 49ers becz obviously bengals and dolphins both lost superbowl to 49ers in 80's Quote
Horsemen Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Do you hate the 00's Patriots?Yes. Not because they're "sooo good", either. I disagree with that. They are slightly above average, below previous dynasties average, who have seemed to have gotten break after break after break with bad refereeing, moreso then any other team. Going all the way back to the 2001 playoffs it has been happening. So yeah, I hate their arses. Did you hate the 90's Cowboys? No. Loved 'em. They were fun to watch and Aikman/Emmitt are both class acts. Did you hate the 80's 49ers?Hate? No. Dislike? Yeah. Did you hate the 70's Steelers?Hate any version of the Steelers irregardless of titles if any are won.Did you hate the 60's Packers? (If you were alive then, lol)Wasn't alive and don't hate nor dislike them. Did you hate Jordan's Bulls?Nope, had an absolute blast watching them play. Quote
DC_Bengals_Fan Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 I tend to pull for underdogs, so I was sick of all those teams by the end (the ones I can remember).Didn't hate the 49ers. Class organization (until the s**t hit the fan with DeBartolo), class players. Like Montana, Rice, and Young. Hate that they beat us twice, but oh well.Couldn't stand the Cowboys. Hated their bandwagon fans most of all, but I really couldn't stand Jones for what he did to Landry, didn't like Jimmy Johnson, and too many thugs on that team. Liked Aikman and Emmitt despite that, because they're good guys.Didn't really hate the Bulls, but really got sick of them. Jordan's the greatest of all time, no doubt, but by the end it got old how he got every...freaking...call. Didn't start out hating the Patriots. Liked them in the beginning, respected the way they did player development. Thought Tom Brady was overrated in the beginning, but now he really is an elite QB. Turned on them when it became apparent that Belichick has no class, the team cheats, etc. And Brady got a little too Hollywood for me. Now I really detest them, and watching the Giants beat them was my sports highlight of the year.Wasn't around for Steelers or Packers. Some other recent ones:2000-2002 Lakers - I really hate Kobe, but I like Shaq, so I was a little conflicted. In the end, I hate Kobe more than I like Shaq, so there you go. Also lived in LA at the time, so that got old.2003-current Spurs: I like the Spurs. Really like Tim Duncan and Popovich. Still didn't like the cheap foul on Nash that screwed Phoenix for the series. Also can't stand Ginobili because he's a candyass flopper, and I hate guys that fake fouls. Can't think of any others offhand. Quote

It annoys me to listen to Emmitt talk now.Did you hate the 80's 49ers?Dislike yes, but I respect Montana and Rice.Did you hate the 70's Steelers?Yes, probably too young to remember, but they are the Steelers.Did you hate the 60's Packers? DesperateDerelict Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 1) YANKEES - Anytime, all the time.2) MANCHESTER UNITED - gimme a break3) Todays PATS => the players are (mostly) okay, but never liked their coach, and the refs are kinder to them than any team since the 80's 49ers. Quote
jjakq27 Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 00's Patriots? 50/50. I respect what they have done in this era but I feel like if they do find something more about the spygate thing then it really diminishes their legacy. Also I felt that their luck changed when they got the call in the playoffs against the Raiders in 2001(?). If that goes against them then they probably don't go on the roll that they have been on.90's Cowboys? No. I liked Roger Staubach as a kid so I never had the great dislike for the team that others have. I liked Aikman, Moose and Novachek. Not crazy about Jerry Jones though.80's 49ers?Yes for obvious reasons but I have a great deal of admiration for Bill Walsh and several of their players of that era.70's Steelers?Yes for obvious reasons which has carried on for over 30 years now.60's Packers? Before my time. Always liked Lombardi's way of doing business though.Jordan's Bulls? No. Big fan, enjoyed watching him play.OthersCurrent Red Sox. I used to pull for them but somehow they lost their humility along the way. Their free spending is ruining baseball (along with the Yankees and Mets)Pre-move-to-Baltimore Browns.Especially when Paul Brown was still around. I disliked them more than the Steelers. Things have changed. It doesn't seem the same.Late 90's Ravens.Warren Sapp with Tampa Bay.TO with the Eagles.Jerry Glanville in the late 80's. Quote
SteelerFan87 Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 OthersCurrent Red Sox. I used to pull for them but somehow they lost their humility along the way. Their free spending is ruining baseball (along with the Yankees and Mets)I agree. It was nice when they were the anti-Yankees (except for spending money), going against the evil empire. But now they ARE the evil empire, and if anything, they're a more stuck up version, because of their fans. It's so annoying hearing about "The Nation" as if they're the only fanbase in the world. And now they're basically just the Yankees with beards. Both teams spend ridiculous ammounts of money, both teams pillage poorer teams best players, both teams are guaranteed to be contenders simply because they can buy wins, while everyone else has to scratch and claw to make the playoffs. Any other team has a hole or 2 going into the trade deadline, oh well, they're pretty much stuck with it, but if the Yankees or Red Sox have to fill a hole, they just gobble up the best player at the position available at the trade deadline. And while I like Terry Francona, and alot of their players have great personalities, the fans just ruin it with their overwhelming narcissism. Quote
jjakq27 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Couldn't have said it better myself. Add Curt Schilling to my list too BTW and here are a couple more. The 90's Bills. You know the "no one circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills..." Bills. They complained about the no-huddle offense when the Bengals played them in the Conference Championship game and had the league amend the rules on gameday on something the Bengals had done all year. Levy came off as such a whiney baby. Then they go out and basically run the same style of offense in the following years and call it the K-Gun offense (for Jim Kelly I guess) have some success and get all of the pub.I will admit they were the dominant AFC team during that time period but I just got sick of all of their BS. The "Jim Kelly has the mentality of a linebacker" stuff wore a little thin. I do feel sorry for Kelly now with all that he has endured with his son but I was not a big fan of him back in the day. Always felt sorry for Scott Norwood though. A good career shouldn't be defined by one play. The mid-70's Dodgers were our nemesis. You had clean-cut all-american Steve Garvey contrasted with rough and tough Pete Rose. The annoying Dodger Blue BS of Tommy Lasorda compared to the sage wisdom of Sparky Anderson. Don Sutton (accused of scuffing baseballs) versus the young skillful lefty Don Gullett. I am glad we won it before they did in the 70s. The late-70's Pirates with the "We Are Family" stuff and the "lovable" Pops Stargell just made be sick too. I don't know why but I really hated them for a brief period of time. Quote
