Can we draft all D-Lineman?

After watching the game the one thing that stood out was that you can have so so DBs but you must have pass rushers to do well in the NFL. Brady looked somewhat human after getting popped in the mouth all night. Mike Brown probably was sleep at halftime so he didnt see the Giants drilling Brady with a 4 man pass rush. Marvin was probably watching but was busy with his trademark laugh. Ellis is not going to make it pass the Jets, so the next pass rusher on deck must be drafted, if they resign Justin Smith then move his slow arse inside, the Giants rush 4 DEs on passing downs...hello Marvin its OK to copy those things.

If we could get the type of Dline with our DB's it would be SUPER!

If we could get some good offensive linemen, our running backs would be super too. Face it guys, the Bengals need some quality big men on BOTH sides of the ball!

Been thinking this for ages. Build from the lines out. f**k this building from the outside in crap that Marvin spews. It's moronic and nonsensical.

According to Dave Lapham there is one main issue with the Bengals offensive line:Eric Ghiaciuc. Apparently he is having dificulties reading the defense and getting the assignments to his linemen. Lapham blames this on Ghiaciuc's inexperience but he also siad he is unsure if he will be able to eventually learn it or not. He's too young to be able to tell. As long as he starts it could be a major problem, but if he doesn't it hampers his learning curve. Santucci is in the same boat being young and Lapham doesn't seem to think Stepanovich is the answer.

Lapham suggested that the Bengals should move Bobby Williams to center. He has the experience to play center and would be great at calling the assignments. That would give Ghiaciuc more time. That would also open up the right guard position for Stacy Andrews giving him insentive to stay: a starting spot. If Anderson and Jones are healthy and Whitworth at left guard we should be in great shape.

We did have one of the best lines in the NFL until Richie Brahm retired. And when we let Stienbach go it killed our depth. With Jones Jones hurt it forced Whitworth to play left tackel and left a void at left guard.

All this is fine but it still leaves us with Kooistra as our only major back-up. We need a couple of younguns to give us depth. We should be able to do that with the suplimental draft picks we will be getting and still get defensive help and possibly a WR.

I'm beginning to think Marvin Lewis doesn't respect the job linemen do. With him being a former LB himself, it's as if he thinks it's all about them, and it just not that way IMHO. I think his switching Pollack from DE to LB makes that quite evident.

IF Pollack returns, it should be as a lineman. That's where he shined at Georgia, and where he's most comfortable.

That's the trouble - they aren't healthy and, based on the last two years, cannot be counted on for the season.

So.........what to do?

Clady in the 1st?

Chirilius or Rachel in the 2nd?

The problem is, if you wait past the 2nd round, every lineman either has issues (a little slow, a little light, too short, a little dumb) or is a project (played at Toledo or Newberry - :P sounds like an ice cream)

If our highest priority is to build the defensive front 7, then we need to spend AT LEAST 1 of the first two picks on DL. If we are even slightly contemplating using a 3-4 on occasion, we need at least 2 NTs out of this draft (Ellis/Okam/Rubin) - and an OLB (you can't count on Pollack).

We could trade down far enouggh to get another day one pick - around 20th. Then you're hoping for Baker, Otah, or Williams from Vandy if you go OT, or Campbell, Harvey, Balmer, Sims, or Merling if you go DL.

Actually, that wouldn't be bad, if you get a Washington, Tampa Bay, or Philadelphia to spend a 1st and a 2nd.

So......what would YOU do?

I think Sedrick Ellis is the pick if he's there.I would love to get Dorsey but that isn't going to happen. If Ellis is gone they could go with Long or Harvey who can both play DE in the 4/3 and 3/4. They could replce Justin Smith. But if Ellis is gone the Bengals could go a lot of directions. Adrews is there to replace Anderson when he's done, now or later. Whitworth can replace Jones and is really a LT playing G. You can get a top guard in the 2nd round, so I don't think they will draft a tackle. Let's face it, between Jones, Whitworth, Andrews and Anderson we have 4 true tackles.

We are also looking at possibly 2 suplimental pick in the 3rd round. Plus, I really think the Bengals will try to trade Henry and I think a 4th round pick is possible.

I would package several picks and move up to get Dorsey. This guys has Pro Bowl writen all over him.

Personally I'd do what ever it took to build the defensive line, and RE-build the offensive line. Trade up a couple spots in the draft, get serious in the FA market...what ever it freakin' takes to start winning the war in the trenches! :bengal:

If they try to address the lines on both sides AND get production from that attempt, 8-8 is about all I am willing to look for next season.

WE NEED A PASS RUSH !!! Our secondary would look like God's gift, if we could find a way to put pressure on the opposing QB !!!

I would not fault the organization for just about any attempt they would make to improve the needs on both lines.

WHODEY !!!

Makes total sense Pidge. A very solid center and a stud NT would start define the identity of the O & the D.
