Bengals1
Anybody else see this?‘Boys shopping busts… The Dallas Morning News is reporting that the Cowboys are shopping former 1st round picks DE Marcus Spears and LB Bobby Carpenter at the Senior Bowl. Spears was one of two Dallas 1st rounders in 2005, while Carpenter was the team’s top pick the following year.'
HairOnFire
I don't doubt they'd trade Spears if the price was right, but I doubt they're looking to unload him cheaply. Carpenter might be another matter altogether as I don't think he's even filling an important backup role for them. And for whatever it might be worth, ESPN claims the Lions have finally grown tired of Shawn Rogers act and are listening to offers.

Plus he has a weight problem...might be connected with getting the munchies. Though he is a good player and used to be pretty dominate, I would have to say no, he isn't worth the headache.Spears would be a good addition for the right price, but I don't see him as enough of an upgrade over Geathers to make him worth what he will cost. Carpenter...maybe with the new LB coach he could do something with him. I guess all these decisions depend on where the draft goes.
DuffMan
I've read that they are asking for 4th or 5th round picks for either. Given our shallow LB situation I would maybe consider Carpenter assuming his salary wasnt too high. He does play special teams so thats a plus. Guess you would have to talk to Zimmer since he should know the two a little.

I'm not feeling Spears at all, his production is terrible there is not way they are doubling teaming him with Ellis and Ware on the field and he's still not getting any production. I want some playmakers not other teams garbage.
Pidge
Ugh Spears. Another one who's "decent against the run". What the feck ever happened to pass rushing DEs? I swear I read about one existing somewhere in the world once.Carpenter? Never really got a chance. Think the 3-4 is a bad fit for him. Maybe a 5th rounder? Adds a bit of depth and plays ST (my hero!) *throws up in mouth*
Spor_tees
If the Bengals get a 5th round comp pick I would give it up for a former first rounder from only a couple years ago

Maybe re-uniting him with Shlegel will give him some energy back...if only they could get Hawk too, then we would be getting somewhere! I would be VERY excited with a LB corp of Brooks, Carpenter, Vilma, Jeanty, Dhani, Shlegel, and either Odell or Landon. Keeping Landon doesn't really make that big of a difference now that the Bengals defense will more than likely going to a different type of scheme. This might leave Henderson as the odd man out unless he puts on some weight and can be a DE. If the Bengals do switch to a 3-4 which I can see being more and more likely after Zimmer's comments and the hiring of a 3-4 LB coach, they will need to keep more LB's. On the flip side, keeping more LB's means keeping less defensive linemen, which could spell the end for Thorton and Robinson (already a free agent I believe) in stripes. This would lead to more than likely a starting front 3 of Geathers at one end, Peko in the middle at NT, and either Rucker, a FA signee, or a draft pick at the other end. Fananae might have an outside shot at playing end too. They will probably keep Myers for the second year of his contract and bring in another rookie or two. ArmyBengal
Great, then we would have Carpenter and Schlegal, both of whom benefited from having played with A.J. Hawk...Color me unimpressed...WHODEY !!!

ShulaSteakhouse
Rogers is a lazy slob - constantly overweight and out of shape and half assing - not the kind of player the Bengals' need. Not sure what happened to Carpenter once he hit the NFL, thought he'd at least be decent - same with Spears.I can't imagine the Cowgirls would get much for either of them in compensation. kurgan74
Both Spears and Carpenter were very good at LSU and Ohio State respectively. I would love to see Spears in aBengals uniform. Spears would be an upgrade to to either Bryan Robinson or John Thornton. I am not surewhat happened to Rob Carpenter in the NFL. He looked good early in his rookie year but faded since. With theuncertainty in the LB corps and the possibility of Landon Johnson walking, Carpenter would a nice addition. I doubt Dallas would do this but a possible scenario....Dallas 1st round pick 22, Carpenter and Spears for the Bengals 9 and a 5th. Now I would not want this trade until draft day and only if Chris Long, Vernon Gholston, Glenn Dorsey, and Sedrick Ellis are all off the boards.
