BengalszoneBilly
From his interview with BILL RABINOWITZ of The Columbus Dispatch:Rabinowitz: Are the injuries you've had a legitimate reason for your struggles or a convenient excuse?Lewis: It's an excuse. Your good players have to get you over the hump. You have to find a way to win the game at Cleveland, win the game at Seattle, win the game at Kansas City. Then you suck it up and regroup and find a way to win the next one until you get the guys back and healthy, which happened. At least he hasn't stooped to this nonsense, and that gives me a little hope. ArmyBengal
I like the response he gave however, I really don't see how you can just ignore the injuries either. Big Willie ?? Brooks ?? Jeanty ?? The list goes on and the fact of the matter is the backups just aren't that good. When he speaks of players coming in and getting them over the hump, he's talking about players that just aren't that good, so yes, the injuries are an issue. At least that my point of view, but once again, I like his answer to the question, because he doesn't want that to be an excuse for his players either...WHODEY !!! kingwilly
Ok, this might sound stupid but there is a big difference between an excuse and an explaination. There are many reasons why the Bengals struggled. All have an explaination, of which few have an excuse.Injuries = Valid ExcuseRoster Mis-management = ExplainationI think we can all agree that injuries as an excuse is valid, since no one "decides" to get injured, as this was a major contributing factor to the woes that held the team back. However, the follow-on, Roster Mis-management, has no excuse. This is just poor decision making, that exposes the lack of personnel resource management. Like the inability to address the deficiency at LB, the wasted space with Perry and Kilmer and the continued pressing of a less than 100% Rudi when Kenny W and 3D were able reserves. The roster mis-managment we all witnessed is explained by a clear lack of foresight and planning combined with virtually no dedication of resources or processes that could begin to get on top of the injury plague this team suffered.
