BengalszoneBilly Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Getting swept in a series is ALWAYS a bad omen for a team. The Reds are stumbling right now, and to me, the reason is mostly pitching, followed by periods of poor fielding, which doesn't help the pitching at all! I think eventually manager Dave Miley is going to have to bolster the pitching staff in one of two ways: trades (do we even have something worth trading except Junior, Casey or Dunn?) or through the Reds own farm system.I think the latter is the only palatible avenue for doing this. Sure, you don't want to bring a guy up too soon, just to get his confidence crushed, but there must be at least a couple of young pitchers in the minors who must be close to making the trip to the "show!" The next two weeks will be very telling of the furture of the Reds season. Not so much as to the wins and losses, but moves made by the management to address these issues. Right now, as I write this, they are 2 full games out of first. All things considered...especially last season...that ain't too shabby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Reds! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted May 2, 2004 Author Report Posted May 2, 2004 Okay, I've done a little investigating the Reds minor league farm teams. Here they are: AAA: Louisville BatsAA: Chattanooga LookoutsA Adv: Potomac CannonsA: Dayton DragonsRookie: Billings MustangsDSL RedsGCL Reds Now out of all these teams, realistically the Reds could only look at the Louisville Bats for immediate help. Who's there? Good news as follows:Louisville Blanks Indianapolis 9-0 April 29, 2004 Indianapolis, IN - Jung Keun Bong pitched eight innings of shutout baseball and Aaron Holbert and Ray Olmedo each had two extra base hits to power the Louisville Bats to a 9-0 win over the Indianapolis Indians on Thursday.Now I believe someone else here mentioned Jung Kuen Bong (ya gotta love that last name! ) in an earlier thread. I look for him to be brought up before too long, especially if the pitching doesn't improve. And yes, I know it was just against another minor league team, but it's all that more impressive when you consider that the Louisville Bats are in dead last place, and Indy is in first, seven games in front in their respective division!Here's the stats of all the Louisville pitchers:Pitchers W-L ERA G GS CG GF SH SV IP H R ER HR BB SO WP B.Shackelford 1-0 1.88 10 0 0 3 0 0 14.1 7 3 3 2 7 14 1 J.Sanchez 1-1 2.13 7 0 0 3 0 0 12.2 10 4 3 0 8 12 0 M.Matthews 1-0 2.53 9 0 0 3 0 1 10.2 7 3 3 1 3 10 1 M.Belisle 2-3 2.81 5 5 1 1 1 0 32.0 27 12 10 1 5 22 0 S.Randall 0-1 3.12 7 0 0 4 0 0 8.2 9 3 3 0 4 7 0 B.Mallette 0-0 3.60 5 0 0 4 0 1 5.0 3 2 2 1 3 6 0 B.Claussen 0-2 3.80 4 4 0 0 0 0 21.1 20 12 9 0 8 26 1 A.Myette 1-1 4.05 4 1 0 0 0 0 13.1 12 8 6 0 6 13 1 B.Nelson 0-3 5.57 4 4 0 0 0 0 21.0 22 13 13 3 10 16 2 J.Bong 2-2 5.64 4 4 0 0 0 0 22.1 29 14 14 3 4 20 2 M.Watson 0-0 8.10 7 0 0 4 0 0 6.2 7 6 6 2 4 5 0 J.Valentine 0-1 8.44 4 4 0 0 0 0 16.0 24 15 15 4 3 10 1 You guy's can check out these stats for yourself at: http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/teams/?loc=affil Quote

For some reason I thought you were younger than that, Just goes to show that while Marines do get older ........... they never really grow up Yeah that includes me. Most women thell their husbands " you're not the man I married. " Mine tells me " you haven't changed a dam bit. " We've only been married for 32 years though so there's still hope I guess. Quote

I may be that old in body, but I'm forever young in spirit! The day I start being old in the mind, someone please shoot me in the head. I let my 401K plan worry about my retirement, I worry only about living life to the fullest! No regrets here baby!! Quote
Kirkendall Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 We need to bring up Sanchez and Matthews. Give these kids a chance... Jones and Norton are not viable solutions, AT ALL!!! Quote
