Mikey Boy
In honor of all the angst about this year's selections, I have put together my all time Bengals draft busts. Let me know what you think.1. Akili (1st / 1999) Not only a bust, but thanks to Mike - it cost us a ton of picks (including Champ Bailey.2. Klingler (1st / 1992) Another QB bust for Mike. Should have been Troy Vincent.3. Jack Thompson QB (1st /1979) Yet another QB bust, predraft pub said we would take Kellen Winslow SR.4. Ricky Dixon CB (1st / 1988) High 1st round pick, never contributed and resulted in franchise paranoia about picking CB's in round 1.5. Pinata Carter RB (1st/ 1995) Hit him, he breaks. Coulda, coulda, coulda.6. Freddie Childress G (2nd / 1989) Did he even make the team???7. Kirby Criswell LB (2nd / 1980) Nice haircut.8. Big Daddy DT (1st /1994) Never reached potential of #1 overall selection.9. David Veser WR (1st/1981) Collinsworth in 2nd made this easier to swallow. PS Jerry Rice.10. Charles Fisher CB (2nd 1999) 1 play career. Too bad, could have solved secondary problem.Honor Mention: Jason Buck DE (1st 1987), Glen Collins/ Emanuel Weaver (1/2 /1982), Hunley/Blados/Koch (all #1's in 1984). Seems like a lot of D lineman. BengalszoneBilly
What about the Ohio State Hiesman winner Archie Griffin?
Twurksum10
Fisher wasnt a bust, he was a stud until he got his leg blown out. I think maybe you should replace him with Lamont Thompson. Fisher would have been good, Thompson will never even be mediocre. because of your going to put players who got injured and didnt make it I think Kijana Carter comes a mile before Fisher. At least Fisher made it to the regular season opener.
jjakq27
The bad thing about the non-trade with NO is that we probably could have gotten Champ Bailey and still taken Akili later. I don't think he could have been that high on anybody else's draft board.Archie Griffin is actually 7th all time on the Bengals rushing list with 2800 yds and is 13th on their recieving list with 192 catches.I pretty much agree with the rest of the picks on that list and I must add my personal favorite, James Francis instead of Emmitt Smith.Freddie Childress was cut in camp in 1989....And Eddie Brown (not David Verser) was selected instead of Jerry Rice in 1985.Dave Rimington was selected over Dan Marino in 1983. Anyway, look at how many safeties the Bengals have aquired since Lamont. We still had to address that position in this years draft. A 2nd round pick like Lamont should still be with the Bengals contributing on D.

kevnz
Lamont Thompson is a dud that will never be anything more than a special teams player, plus he's got a bum neck and he knows it so that hurts his ability to play the middle of the field. Plus he didn't buy into the system when MArvin got here....That's a good career move, ignore your head coach and one of the best defensive minds in the game....smart...Plus he had no passion to play... jjakq27
Why did we let Lamont go? He was a DB that was afraid to hit people. I think he also had problems learning the coverage schemes.
princeton
on my bad days, Chris Perry makes me think of Charles Alexander; Keiwan Ratliff makes me think of Artrell Hawkins and Charles Fisher; Madieu Williams makes me think of Mark Roman and Lamont Thompson; and the third round 'backers definitely make me think of Steve ShineFortunately, nobody makes me think of Freddie Childress. Yet.
BENGALTHEM
Or Steve Tovar

chrishcovga
Man Steve Tovar was a very good middle linebacker for the Bengals. Who knows how well he would have improved if not for the knee Injury. Either Way, after Cincinnati released him, he ended up starting in San Diego I think. Unfortunately for this post, we can find at least one or 2 players from each draft high or low selection since 1991 !
kevnz
Unfortunately for this post, we can find at least one or 2 players from each draft high or low selection since 1991 ! Oh I think that is the norm for almost every team in the NFL...I mean people rave about Denver and the genius coach they have, but how many high round busts has he drafted? Or Billick as his abiltiy to draft a QB....Oh wait, Boeller is their answer Just Like Redman, or all the high corners the steelers have drafted or....you get my point...Every team has it's busts, the biggest probelm with the Bengals is that they've had some high profile busts, but one of the Bengals problems is that they could never attract players to fill in for the busts....But I'd say we picked some duds in the past. and that's just it, the past....
