Why the complaining?

Why all the bitchin about the draft? Do you armchair QB's know more than Marvin Lewis or Leslie Frazier about the kind of players we need? Give me a break.

Watch the news...watch ESPN...listen to Marvin. Other coaches AND some analyists are saying we had a great day. Just because you think we should take Gamble or whoever doesnt mean that we should. Look at the past....Dillon, Pickens, Esiason, Brady, Terrell Davis, and on and on and on....NONE were first round picks.

We finally have a coach who knows talent and takes us to our first decent season in years, and we have fans who are smarter, more knowledgable, and more knowing than our head coach who knows talent and deals with it daily.

Give me a friggin break.

I have no doubt about Marvin Lewis, it's the other "football geniuses" such as Tobin & Brown.

So basically what you are saying is that our most pressing need was a back up running back? Eh?

Cmon, out of everything we learned last year about our team I don't think the running game was at question even without Dillon. We won't have Weathersby and our secondary lives every game on the line, and we need a backup running back!

Not too sure about that...

what the hell has Marvin Been Saying HONESTLY

DRAFT THE BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE NOT BY NEED!

where have you guys been. he didnt draft our most pressing need he drafted who he and the coaching staf fealt was the best payer available.

So your saying that if we drafted 5 running backs because they were the best player, you would be ok with that?

You draft the best player available BASED ON THE NEEDS OF YOUR TEAM.

You can only play 2 running backs in the backfield at the same time, and we don't use the pro formation. Therefore, we drafted a 3rd down back (maybe, has yet to be seen)/kickreturner.

To be honest, I don't think Marvin made that selection. (See Tobin/Brown comment in earlier post.)

You're right. We don't. But you're leaving Mike Brown out of the equation. Don't kid yourself thinking that he doesn't have an input into who we draft. Katie either. Some of these draft choices just seem "Mikie-ish", that's all. B)

You draft the best player available BASED ON THE NEEDS OF YOUR TEAM.

That's been tried before and it simply doesn't work. See the years that Mikey was making the picks. It's not necessarily the case that the needs of a team should be taken care of in the draft. There's also free agency and trading to consider. If you take the best player available, you then have more room to maneuver and more flexibility when trying to work a trade with another team. Let's say that you get a break-even value for value trade with someone. Now, you have a player that fulfills your needs and is a better value than any of that position which you could have selected in the draft.

I guess I've never thought of the draft as a be all and end all when it comes to general management of a team. Just make solid picks and don't shoot yourself in the foot (see Dallas).

1-2 punch in the back field, Rudi-Perry. Thats what Marvin invisioned with Dillion-Rudi, until Corey forgot about football beeing a team sport. Two headed monster in the backfield, kinda like Icky-Brooks!

Makes since to me. They put 8 in the box, run outside, they spread um out run up the gut. Then a bomb to CJ! Lots of weapons..

Don't even look at it as complaining.. Look at it more as constructive criticism..

We didn't improve the center position. !

We passed on higher rated d-lineman.

We wanted a quarterback to be our third guy, and missed on some intelligent passers, for a guy that at best will make the practice squad.

Not drafting a punter or a Center will hurt us this year. Not grabbing an impact DE, will hurt as well.

But for all it's worth, with guys like Askew, Mann, Brooks, and Andrews on day 2, it raises us up to a B-.
