The PatternMaster Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Michael got violated a la Marsellus Wallace in "Pulp Fiction" by the judge who presided over this divorce hearing by awarding his wife of 6 six years(he's been in the NFL for 13 years) more than half of Strahan's estimated $22 million dollar net worth in the settlement. Not only did Jean Strahan get $15+ million dollars, she got the 12 bed room, 22,000 sq ft, 20 car garage mansion in NJ, and monthly child support payments of $18,000. Wow!! Of course Strahan appealed the decision handed down by the female judge, but he has to win the appeal in order to keep the money he earned and winning the appeal is no sure thing. However I don't feel sorry for Strahan because he was unfaithful to his wife; he had mistresses, he was caught video taping his sister-in-law undressing and gave her 30 grand(did he hit it?), and he reportedly never remembered to celebrate her birthday or anniversary(and we thought Hitler was a monster). Being a star in a big city like NYC can cause strain on a marriage, Strahan is only human. Now Michael is holding out from training camp because he wants the Giants to give him more money even though he under contract for $4 million dollars for this year and next year. He claims he can retire and make just as much money being a TV personality like his buddy and former teammate Tiki Barber did this offseason, however due to the public nature of his divorce his rep as a loveable fun guy took a hit and he's not as marketable as he was 2-3 years ago. Oh did mention that the Giants are fining him 15 grand a day for every day he misses, I believe he's missed aleast 5 days so he's out 60 grand already. I think he should get his ass in camp. Quote

So his gambit of forcing them to release him may blow up in his face; it's not clear other teams actually want him.2) Simeon Rice is now available, so they can sign Rice, cut Strahan, and say FU!Does he have a signing bonus on this contract they can go after? Also, as you say, he may have just nuked his post-football marketability. AMC Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 COULD HURT their SB chances????????I didn't know they had any chances to begin with! Quote
The PatternMaster Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 COULD HURT their SB chances????????I didn't know they had any chances to begin with! They made the playoffs and they have a pretty good defense.I really like their RB Brandon Jacobs, I think he's going to be a star in the NFL at 6'4" 260 lbs he is a monster that no defense wants to tackle 25-30 times a game. It's just a matter of getting him enough touches to be effective. Quote
DC_Bengals_Fan Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 COULD HURT their SB chances????????I didn't know they had any chances to begin with! It's the NFC. Solid defense, good running game, and a bottom-5 QB are apparently enougth to get to the SB. Worked last year. Quote

SteelerFan87 Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 What SB chances? Talent wise? Sure. But the Giants are a mess. Their team is full of lazy, selfish, whiners, with a coach who lost the team pretty much 2 seconds after he took the job. They don't have what it takes to make it to the SB. They'd be lucky to make the playoffs. Quote

They'd be lucky to make the playoffs.LOL...well, thats pretty much a regurgitated Sportscenter summary of the New York Giants, so take it for what its worth. Of course thats from the same guys that have been telling us all offseason that Wade Phillips's 'more aggressive' scheme would upgrade the Cowboys defense...had they done any actual research, they'd have found that Parcells had the Cowboys bringing 6 or 7 rushers twice as frequently as Phillips did in San Diego. But thats ESPN for you. Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public; unfortunately ESPN has built their entire business model on that motto. See the "Who's Now" segment, for example.Of course, the Giants don't have legit Super Bowl hopes. I'm a fan of the team, yet I can see that. Here's the thing about the Giants - everything about the team tends to get blown WAY out of proportion because of the way the NY media vultures pick at every detail; the good becomes great and the bad becomes horrible. In effect, most of what the general public has heard about the team is a lot of talk about stuff that is immaterial to the product on the field. Bottom line, it has next to nothing to do with whether or not the players like each other or like the coaches; the Giants don't have a legit shot at the Super Bowl because the team just isn't that talented. I like Brandon Jacobs though. My only concern with him is whether or not he'll be able to keep a handle on the ball because Coughlin has no patience for RBs who put the ball on the ground. But if he's a guy who only drops it once or twice a year on 300+ carries...well, look out NFL. When I was prepping for my fantasy draft, my best-case projections had him at close to 1700 yards and with 20 TDs. Its just a matter of him getting the touches and staying on the field. Ah, the topic of the thread - Big Ole' Michael Strahan. He's played like 14 games in the last three years, he's not getting a raise from us or any other team in the league. I'd be suprised if he wasn't back, I'm sure at some level this is just a scheme to stay out of training camp. Its not like he needs the work anyway, and though the team is talking tough they'll take him back when/if he's ready. He's just too good. With him, small chance for a championship. Without him, no chance. Quote
jjakq27 Posted August 9, 2007 Report Posted August 9, 2007 Until Eli morphs into Peyton, I don't see them going very far.And for Strahan, this strikes me as the typical "old vet doesn't want to go through all 6 weeks of training camp" scenario. I am sure he wants his money too but he is going to be 36 in a few months so you might see him sign after the second or third game.... Quote
