Draft Pick Signings

On the subject of Irons, how much stock should we put into Ludwig saying that he has a chance to take Rudi's job? Is this a realistic possibility, or another case of Rudi being under appreciated?

It's a case of Ludwig smoking too much dope, IMHO. B)

dope wouldn`t do that to Ludwig. what he`s struggling with is a birth defect.

I'd also like to know how Katie & Mikey & clan are an embarrassment, when every team in the league is in the same situation? Please, do tell!

As of July 1st - 25% of all draft picks signed. In the 3 plus weeks since, prbably another 50 or 60 signed - I don't know of another team with ALL their picks unsigned (well, maybe Washington or the Jets - they had 6 picks between them).

1st class organizations, whether you're talking about sports teams, companies, schools, or whatever -do the small stuff very well, and are consistent in their approach to business matters. The Bengals constantly come off as tight-fisted, period.

Do you have a link showing that many players signed? Nice attempt to make up numbers, but as of July 17th, less than 25% of all draft picks were signed.

Here you go.... Your source?

One notable caveat: There isn't a player signed yet from the first or second rounds.

The highest-drafted player to sign so far is Kent State cornerback Usama Young, chosen by New Orleans with the second selection in the third round, the 66th player taken overall.

In other words, yes, a lot of low rounders have signed. Woopie.

And from the same article....

The early flurry of signings aside, many franchises still prefer to wait until July, when the league's deadline mentality kicks in. That is evidenced by the fact that 14 teams, nearly half the franchises in the league, have yet to sign a draft choice.

So, if the Bengals front office is such an utter failure, as you are trying to say, that would mean that nearly half the teams in the league are just as bad.

It seems to me you just like to whine about anything to do with the Bengals front office.

Draft Pick Signings

NONE !!!

Sometimes, Katie & Mikey & clan are an embarrassment ! :blowup2:

[[shrug]] Can't say I expected anything different. The FO is famously paranoid about "overpaying" and routinely -- as in every year -- gets into squabbles over incentives and escalators. So camp starting without our top picks is just SOP.

I will say that there's no excuse for not having the day two guys locked down. We're counting on guys like White and N-duke to contribute this season, so the more reps they get the beter. White especially is a head-scratcher, since the guys on both sides of him are signed, so the slot is there.

Fortunately, at this point there seems to be no rancor between the team and any of the drafteees. We'll see if it stays that way.

Look at the date on the article: July 1st. And the headline: "More than 25 percent of draft picks have signed so far" => I don't write 'em, I just read 'em.

Please, Crazy, give me some credit - I'm not whining, I'm Bitching !!! If you'd like to turn this topic into a defense of Katie & Mikey, go for it. Having spent thousands of dollars on COA's and tickets, I believe I have the right to complain - and the Bengal's front office, though better in the last few seasons, is still second-rate when compared to many other NFL franchises. They will ALWAYS appear cheap, and the underlying problem is the entire Brown family's only source of income is the Bengals.

It is what it is. However, I do not need to like it, nor be quiet about it in a fan forum. B)

Apparently you DO NOT read 'em. The draft picks that have signed so far are scrubs. Once again, read beyond the headline. NO 1st rounders had signed yet, and very few first day picks over all. Nearly half the teams in the league had yet to sign anyone, so the Bengals are far from alone.

And in case you hadn't noticed, that was nearly a month ago. The first day has started to fill in, and some teams, like the Steelers, Chargers and Bears, have their entire draft classes signed. The fact that some other teams still have guys to sign is no excuse.

As for the day 2 guys being "scrubs"...well, I suggest you mention that to Domata Peko, Robert Geathers, TJ Houshmanzadeh, Eric Ghiacuic, Jeremi Johnson and Tab Perry, among others.

Anyhow, the latest from Hobson...

NO SIGNAGE: A little more than 24 hours to report and the Bengals still haven't signed any draft picks. Still, all indications are none of the second-day guys are going to hold out. But there hasn't been much conversation between the club and No. 1 pick Leon Hall and there probably won't be until more picks get signed around his No. 18 spot. The closest deal is Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons at No. 15. All other completed first-round contracts are at the bottom of the round.

Same old same old.

Regardless of whether 50% of all draft picks are signed or not, if the first day picks aren't signing yet, and half the teams haven't signed ANY of their picks, he's missing the point of the article.

PS: Only a dumbass calls someone a dumbass on a forum outside of smack talk, and if that's the best you've got, I feel truely truely sorry for you.

Yeah I have a feeling Marvin White is going to be a stud. I think if Irons wins the starting job, which imho is not going to happen, the Bengals should use the two just like the Steelers used Bettis and Willie Parker. Parker gets the ball when there is a lot of room in between the line of scrimmage and the endzone, and then give it to Rudi inside the 30 yard line and in goaline situations. I think it will open the offense up more when Irons is in there because teams know if Rudi is in there, usually if he is the one getting the ball it's a run. With Irons and when Chris Perry comes back the backfield is going to be really scary for opposing Ds. Imagine a split back set with Irons and Perry in there with Chad and TJ split wide how do you stop that? And no, one of the answers is not break Chris Perry's leg. I don't like players being put on the Pup list or suspended, but it is kind of like waking up on Christmas or on your birthday when these guys come back from being suspended or injured. Anyone think that Goddell is going to be draging his feet when Henry is reinstated like he is doing with Odell?

I would've thought a guy posting about an article published two weeks before he joined the forum would agree that it's OLD NEWS.

Considering that's the ONLY source that showed up when he said "25% of the draft picks" signed by that date, I think it is appropriate. Of course I'm still waiting to see where he's getting his everyone else is signing all their picks information. I'm betting I'll have to wait a long time for a source.

Oh, and what does the day I joined the forum have to do with ANYTHING at all?

Oh, and what does the day I joined the forum have to do with ANYTHING at all?

Funny you should ask. Would that day have been December 2, 2003, July 23, 2004 or July 19, 2007? :o

Your IP address joined on all three of those dates.

So...say hi to UCANTBEATOURJOHNSONS and The_Next_Big_Thing for us, crazy!

I can't vouch for how accurate or up-to-date this is, but here goes:

Signed picks are in green. Guess whose roster is still full of red?

Nice find, walrus.

Per Curnutte's blog, no signings to come today, but the Bengals hope to announce "some" deals tomorrow, ahead of the first practice on Friday.

I have to say that this is the first time I can remember the Bengals not having any picks signed before the opening of camp. Way to go FO!

Santucci

The Bengals got their first draft pick in the fold Wednesday when agent Ralph Cindrich confirmed that seventh-rounder Dan Santucci agreed to a four-year deal. Santucci, a Notre Dame offensive lineman, figures to start a run of second-day picks into the fold before the Bengals report to training camp 3 p.m. Thursday. The 6-4, 304-pound Santucci played in every game his last two seasons at South Bend mainly as a guard but the Bengals list him as a center.

It's believed Santucci got between $45-50,000 to sign a deal that includes an escalator in the last year.

The Bengals don't comment on contracts until it is signed.

WOO-HOO. Way to go FO. :o
