GapControl
since you have no experience with pc troubleshooting, repair, diagnostics and the like, i suggest you call a local technician or take your pc into the place you bought it, or have had it serviced before. just a tip, best buy is WAY overpriced. they basically are the equivalent of a Jiffy-Lube in desktop troubleshooting. your problem is common but the symptoms are vague. if you attempt to repair yourself, you may cause more harm. but if you really want to try, ask yourself this:-what programs did I install recently and in what order?-have i downloaded any executable program files recently and in what order?-do i have any other symptoms besides the blue screen?-what does the hexidecimal value represent in the first line of the BSOD?-am i receiving a stop error 0x00x or something similar?-do i have another viable PC to log into microsofts knowledge base to examine the contents of my BSOD readout?-what is listed in my eventviewer or application log?-what is my processor doing at the moment i start my OS and when playing my game?-what processes are running in the backqround of my OS? are they legitimate? could they be redundant, virus, or spyware?-have I recently attempted upgrades or reinstalls to my core operating system? If you can answer these questions reliably then you should probably be able to fix your PC yourself. If not, then you should contact a professional. you will just get confused and mad if you don`t.
skyline
Like Gap was hinting at, this could be any one of a thousand things. If you get another BSOD, write down what it says and either search for it on google or post it here. Beyond that, it really just comes down to trial and error. Bad memory? Hard drive? Motherboard? Software? etc, etc, etc.
B24
I had this problem with a computer I was working on for someone and it ended up being a Windows Update patch that was causing it. If that happens to be the problem, another problem for you will be figuring out which patch caused it. But as has been said it could be any number of things that caused it.Can you start your computer up in safe mode?
Thurmanation
thanks for the help guys but i couldnt bring it to a retailer since most the parts were bought from seperate places, and i cant write down what the info said on the BSOD cause it was actually 1 second on the screen, then resets it. i wrote my last post on a computer at my school. ChadJohnson-85
I was on my computer like 4 days ago and it just shut off and it wouldn't come back on.... I tried unplugging it and putting it in another slot and it came back on but it would just stay on my desktop and freeze. I had to set my computer 3 days back to make it work again. I'm planning on getting a new laptop cause the one i'm useing right now is a piece of crap!
Kirkendall
Let me preface this by saying I've been in the professional field working on PCs, servers and networking equipment for nearly 10 years. So I have a lot of experience with BSoD...Next time you get a BSoD that recycles quickly, make sure you keep letting the PC recycling until you get the entire errors code... the part where is says xxxxxxxx (xxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxx, xxxxxxx, xxxxxxx. It's tedious but you can get an idea of what general direction to troubleshoot. Also try rebooting into safe mode, as fearless leader pointed out. If it allows you to get into Windows, then uninstall every driver and see if that allows you to reboot into normal Windows mode. If so, then you've found out it was a corrupted driver... commonly a video driver corruption are most of the reasons for BSoD. Anyway, I'm glad you got it back up. Computer issues can be the most frustrating things in the world.
Riagogogoindanati
I have a really sweet laptop I use for work and a crappy one I got from a friend (60gb hard drive)(for free) that I will use for wireless at home/downloads, surfing, etc... He told me to reinstall Windows professional (gave me the cd for it) and I tried using the code (there is a windows cert sticker on the bottom of the lap top.) All I get is a message to register Windows and the key on the sticker I guess is not valid. I have all of the cd's that came with the computer. It is a Dell.....maybe that is the problem. LOLHow do you refurbish or restart a computer from scratch? I don't want to put alot of $$ into this thing.
