HoosierCat
Isn't this the same tune you were singing last year with the Sam Adams deal? It took forever for him to actually sign the deal, but everyone knew he was a Bengal long before that time.Huh? The Bengals showed zero interest in Fat Sam for most of the offseason, something I was fine with; I had zero interest in yet another aging DT looking for one last paycheck. Sam spent his time in Florida, occasionally claiming interest in the media by multiple (and apparently imaginary) teams in an effort to drum up interest (he got none). They didn't even approach him until after it was clear no one was interested. If Hartwell says he's a Bengal on national radio, I believe him.Hartwell isn't a Bengal until he signs on the dotted line, and there's no shortage of guys who have backed out of verbal agreements before. In fact, I'm pretty sure you argued that he was using the Bengals to get an offer from another team. Who knows... perhaps you're right. But it seems foolish to me to talk on national radio like it is a foregone conclusion that you'll be with one team if your intention is to use them as a bargaining chip. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You're pretty optimistic except when it comes to anything related to free agency - then you become Shula jr. I had little interest in seeing the team sign yet another aging vet DT looking to cash one more paycheck. And sadly so far, Sam's been about the waste of money I expected. Who knows, tho, maybe he pulls a Warren Sapp and snaps back to all-pro form in '07. But I doubt it.But it seems foolish to me to talk on national radio like it is a foregone conclusion that you'll be with one team if your intention is to use them as a bargaining chip.Hey, all Hartwell has to do is actually sign the deal he claims to have agreed to six days ago. Then we're all copacetic.
HoosierCat
While we're on the subject of big fatties, Hobson relays info that the team is looking into signing another one...Agent Harold Lewis said the Bengals have interest in another of his clients, Packers defensive tackle Kenderick Allen.Allen, looking for his fourth team in five years, is an agile 330-pounder who is coming off a foot injury that limited him to two games last season in Green Bay.Allen could be in the same boat as Hartwell and may be seeking a one-year, incentive-laden deal to prove to everyone he’s back from an injury that didn’t require surgery.Allen, who turns 29 the week after the opener, came into the league in 2003 undrafted and signed with the hometown Saints out of LSU. The next season New Orleans cut him and after the Giants picked him up on waivers he played two seasons and 19 games there with 31 tackles and three sacks. After moving on to Green Bay in 2006 in the second game of the year, Allen got hurt but Lewis said he received an MRI from the Bengals as well as going through a workout Tuesday.Hmmm...don't need a 330lb guy to replace Thornton...Myers just got here...Peko's not going anywhere...Fat Lady soon to sing for Fat Sam?Oh, and as for Hartwell, Hobson says that his agent assures the team he'll be along to sign his deal...sometime next week... Smith - which means that Myers is actually a replacement for Thornton. Myers isn't likely much of a step down from Thornton, and is almost a 5th of the cost. I don't see Sam Adams going anywhere this year. He's not actually all that expensive... and unless there is a significant lingering injury that has been kept secret, he has potential to be a lot more productive this year.I've never been a big advocate of cutting Thornton because I thought he was servicable... but with the addition of Myers, that $3.1 million in cap savings looks awfully appealing. HairOnFire
...Fat Lady soon to sing for Fat Sam? Probably just cheap insurance to be used if and when Adams shows up in the same miserable condition as last year.
