N.F.L. Draft, the Biggest (XXXXXXL) Sleeper (NY Times)

Big surprise. A thread that has nothing to do with the subject hijacked and dominated by a personal debate between Hair and Hoosier.

Seriously guys... you're quite entertaining to the rest of us, but how do you manage to do it in so many threads? It's nothing short of incredible.

Don't blame me. I was ignoring this thread until Jet made a point that Hoosier claimed was the same as one I had previously made. That prompted me to try to clarify my position, which led Hoosier to make a bunch of silly arguments in my behalf. Thus, further clarification. Frankly, it's the type of thing that used to make me mad but I think Hoosier has suffered a stroke recently....(Dead salary cap space?)....so I'm in a forgiving mood.

As for threads getting hijacked, go to the Eric Steinbach thread in the NFL folder. Once there you can learn all about the mysteries of tapwater and the advantages of glass containers over plastic.

So no apologies.

Goodell's threat was vauge enough that none of us has any idea if the threat to fine teams or take draft picks away is limited to players drafted or added by any other means.

Goodell's team sanctions concept makes no mention of distinguising between draft picks, FAs or even other club employees. The offical release runs thus:

Clubs will be subject to discipline in cases involving violations of the Personal Conduct Policy by club employees. In determining potential club discipline going forward, the commissioner will consider all relevant factors, including the history of conduct-related violations by that club's employees and the extent to which the club's support programs are consistent with best practices as identified and shared with the clubs.

Fines? Draft picks? The GMs firstborn? Your guess is as good as mine as to what the discipline will be -- or even what the trigger point is for such action. One arrest? 10? Something in between? Or is there a severity gague, like one domestic violence charge = three DUIs?

What's more, if Henry earns less money and doesn't cost a team a draft pick, but he can give the team 9 or 10 TD's a season, then how serious would you take Goodell's threat of a fine?

Depends on the fine. But clearly that would be a lesser consideration than, say, the loss of a draft pick. But again, we're stuck on the fact that no express policy has been laid out, just these vague threats. And there's enough wiggle room to drive a Mack truck through. Here we come back to the point we both agreed on earlier, that Mikey is up sh*t creek without a paddle when it comes to Roger -- and (to come back aroud to the subject of the thread) that likely makes the drafts "Biggest Sleeper" off limits to the Bengals. But he will almost certainly be drafted and/or signed by someone.

Maybe, but while reading the article I was reminded of last years "Biggest Sleeper"...the basketball player said to be the next great TE. I'm pretty sure he went undrafted....as will whatever freak happens to be featured in next years Biggest Sleeper article.
