DILLON TRADED

I know I've said more than once for everyone to simply "Let Marvin work his plan" - and now maybe more of those non-believers are seeing part of his plan come into fruition.... The man knows what the hell he is doing - were talking youth and depth and keep that process going into the future... As veterans out price themselves, they get replaced by the cheaper and the younger, if you can evaluate talent, you can make it work...

Yes, true...but let's remember that CD didn't "out price" himself; he was, in fact, part of Marvin's plan, one Marvin bent over backwards to try to accomodate, cajole, and bring along all of last season. In that, he failed. The second-round pick is a nice consolation prize, the equivalent of going home with a 60-inch TV instead of a year's supply of Turtle Wax when you fail to win the Big Deal.

CD's departure was necessary, even inevitable -- but it wasn't part of any plan of Marvin's. He did a good job making the best of a bad situation.

The Bengals get rid of a locker room problem and receive a good pick, a mid to late 2nd rounder 56th overall, which is around where dillon was drafted.

Dillon was picked 43rd in 1997 according to the Enquirer this morning. That's like getting the pick back and only having to pay interest worth 13 lower spots for 7 years of service. I think that's a steal.

A little worried that we have to face him this year though but still WOW! :D

He's one guy. By the time we play them in December, the regular season will be almost complete and we will know by then how well Corey has fit into Belichick's system. And I am sure by then the excitement will have worn off a little for both sides.

Actually , how big will that "Preseason" home opener on August 21st. Granted we'll only see Dillon for about a quarter, but how much pounding you think we can dish out on him.

* I will admit this though.. - N.E. just got themselves another SuperBowl if Dillon stays healthy.

If Corey stays healthy, they will definitely be one of the top teams again. But I wonder how Corey will handle the Boston media or deal with the pressure of being in a big game. It is something he never had to deal with before.

CD may have been a part of Marvin's plan in the beginning, but you cannot tell me that he was, as a starter, 10-11 games into the season last year... Once he got healthy, Marvin let him play to prove he was still the man (as it should be), yet as it played out very obviously, Rudi outplayed him big-time... Corey ran east-west looking for the big play and losing yards when the blocking was not there, while the younger Rudi hit the hole now and gave us positive yards even when we didn’t block well... The bottom line was that Rudi gave us a better chance to win than Corey and Marvin finally decided to stay w/ him as our featured back. Of course, this did not sit well w/ a punk such as Dillion and he made that obvious w/ his ridiculous display after the last game of the year and all of his off-season rhetoric...

To say that Marvin failed w/ Corey Dillion is not correct... Sounds like people were listening to too much Andy "instigator/furball" Furman last night... [i see there is a thread for Furman which I will read next]... Dillion is a punk, who would be perfectly fine if he was man enough to win his job back, but instead acted like the spoiled neighborhood 8 year old when he was outplayed (he's 29, not 8)...

Of course, we have punks all over sports these days, players who think they are bigger than the game and that is pretty sad...

...back to Dillion - if he was still the starter, none of this would've happened, period! He knows we are headed in the right direction, but couldn't stomach that he was outplayed and behind Rudi, so he threw a fit like a kid and I cant believe that anyone is really surprised by that... Look at Keyshawn and Owens, you cant stop a punk from being a punk and if a punk is unhappy because he isn't in the limelight every damn minute, he will "punk out", that's simply the nature of their idiocy...

Marvin didn't fail w/ Dillion, Dillion failed himself when Rudi proved to be the better back last year and Corey couldn't handle it!! Corey did, in fact, outprice himself due to a lack of manhood and ethics/morals... See ya punk, glad your gone...!

That seems to me a rather...strained...reading of events. It's clear that from day 1, Marvin Lewis did everything he could to include CD, flatter CD, and appease CD. Not in a fawning, suck-up manner, but in a "I'm going to treat you like a pro no matter what you do because I don't get into fights with my players" kind of mentality.

It never really took in CD's head, as shown by his blowing off the first voluntary camp. Marvin, at least publicly, brushed it off. So, so did I. Apparently, we were both mistaken. And once he got hurt, things simply spiraled out of control.

Frankly, Marvin's failure was to continue to play him. Benching him -- or even better, "Keyshawning" him -- would have been a tough call for the first-year coach, but his continued insistence on putting him in the game only hurt the team on the field. You are quite right when you say that Rudi outplayed him...why then was Corey still getting the bulk of carries whenever his leg wasn't ouching him? Even late in the season?

Bottom line is that Marvin was a first-year coach and Corey was a multi-year cancer and CD screwed him over (and yeah, that's a punk, by definition). Ah, well, even Parcells and Lombardi were young once, right? Fortunately, CD had enough value -- more value that folks like me thought -- that Lewis' butt is covered. I expect he'll learn from this, and the next "cancer," should one develop, will be given far less rope before hanging commences.

I took my boys to Georgetown last August and while CD stopped to sign some autographs, ML picked up Corey's helmet and pads and carried them into the locker room.

I'd be lying if I said, that maybe we should have gotten a late round pick for Dillon as well as the 2nd.

- N.E. could have given up the second pick simply because we have to play them this year, and trading a player like Dillon to the defending Super Bowl Champions, when they're on your upcoming schedule deserves a little more compensation..

-- But then again, I'm just greedy

Chris, ive thought about this too, I mean it seems everywhere I look locally we are loving the deal. And everywhere I look nationally they are loving it for the Pats, saying we handed them another title and stuff. I sure would have liked a little more compensation but I think the Pats clearly werent ready to give up even that 2nd rounder until the Clarett thing went down, then the called us up.

You do everything to appease your best player--but this may have been going a step too far. Marvin Lewis is definitely a man of high character.

I would make a bet that Corey Dillon thought that the coach was supposed to do that.
