ChadJohnson-85
How about Jeff Garcia or maybe Matt Schaub? I would be happy with either one of thoose two.http://www.footballsfuture.com/2007/nfl/freeagents.html
Stripes
Either would be among the most expensive backup options in the league, and Schaub will want a starting job. I'm completely fine with Anthony Wright should they re-sign him.
Kazkal
schaub is a RFA so would cost high draft pick to get...>Garcia wants team thats competive and he has a chance to start for.

Kirkendall
Garcia sucks throwing it deep too... He's a bad fit.Not only that, but he's shown to be successful in a West Coast offense... and that's it! With what Garcia did with the Eagles is nothing short of impressive. With that said, he will accept nothing less than a starters job... or back with Philly.
redsbengalsbucks
Again, it does not matter who #2 is, without Palmer this team is going nowhere fast.
Stripes
Again, it does not matter who #2 is, without Palmer this team is going nowhere fast.Tell that to the Eagles. Tell that to Frank Reich or Jeff Hostettler.I do think we have much bigger worries than backup quarterback, but having an adequate player filling that role is very important. That pretty much proves his point. It's not often that a backup takes his team deep into the playoffs.

Those names were valid for deep playoff runs, but there are many others that have come in for a few games and held the fort down very successfully. HairOnFire
Anthony Wright and Doug Johnson are simply two different versions of the same thing. That being veteran QB's who are willing to sign with the Bengals for pennies because they have few options of their own. They know they'll never get a sniff of the starters position as long as Carson Palmer can stand upright, but because they have playing experience in the NFL, and now know the Bengals offense, it's a good match for the players and the Bengals....especially last year. But the Bengals need to find a young QB in the draft that can serve as Palmer's permanent backup for the next four or five years. (Maybe longer.) BengalByTheBay
I wonder if Eric Meyer has any chance to fill the long-term backup role? He was less-than-impressive last preseason, but with another year and getting the practice and preseason snaps that went to A. Wright last year might give us a good indication of his future here. If not him, I vote for a 3rd to 5th rounder on a QB for the role.
cincy9275
I am fine with johnson and wright. if wright don't resign then draft someone. hobson said the bengals might be looking for a qb in the draft. i read some where that oakland is interested in vick if that's true schaub is going no where. as for garcia pass would rather have wright he already knows our system and our w/r's. TheCinciBengal
either Tim Rattay or Matt Schaub cause everybody says the Jeff is gonna go to Minnesota
Grizz08
I dont think we really need to waste a draft pick on something that isn't a necessity. But honestly I would not mind seeing anthony wright come back for another season. Plus if not wright, Tim Rattay showed a lot of improvement in his game playing ability towards the end of last season.
derekshank
I have no desire to spend our precious FA money on a player that won't get snaps. This franchise rides on the shoulders of Carson Palmer. Last offseasn we needed some serious insurance for Palmer because we weren't sure if he'd be ready to start the season. With such a huge need for a solid back-up QB we went out and signed the legendary icons Wright and Johnson. Now Palmer is completely healthy, and you expect management to go after someone better? If Palmer goes down for any length of time, we need a guy who can just try to keep the ship above water... not a guy who will compete fro a pro-bowl. I'm happy with who we've got backing up Palmer, and will be disappointed if we use money on a back-up QB that could/should be used on defense. Whur CHad At?
Re-sign Wright. He isn't that bad. If that doesn't go right, how about Aaron Brooks...hahaha JK
Dimster28
why not draft palmer's brother to be a back up qb
WhoDeyForever
With the resigning of Doug Johnson, I hope we can resign Anthony Wright. Keep the same ones we had last year. If the dreaded happens, Wright would be capable of leading this team for however many weeks
HairOnFire
why not draft palmer's brother to be a back up qb Both brothers have said all of the right things. Carson says his little brother is too talented to sit behind him. Jordan says he wants his own team to run, and doesn't want to play in his big brothers shadow. All of it makes perfect sense. Then again, if Jordan is still on the board in the 4th round the NFL is effectively telling Jordan that he's not considered a prospect who could start for several years...so neither brother could complain if Cincinnati gave Jordan a soft place to land. Best, you know Palmer would go out of his way to mentor the backup...something that doesn't happen everywhere. (Blake/Akili)
