Kazkal
Probbley gone before we pick...I could see Rams or Jaguars taking him.If Odell doesn't return he's 1# LB I'd want...But PaulPoz would probbley be good too Not sure if he'd be Ilb or Olb for us? Whur CHad At?
I would love Poz too, either one is fine by me. But man, that was a sick tackle.
duus
I think this is the year that the Bengals have no choice but to decide exactly what they NEED in their first pick, identify THE GUY that best fits that, and moves up if necessary to get him. Good teams have done that. That's how Polamalu was obtained (as one of several recent examples). You'll get a good guy at #18, but if you have identified your guy and believe him to be a top 12 pick, then get up to 12 to get him. You need that one impact player ... then you do what it takes to get him.

I think they have too many pressing needs to consider using their 2nd round pick to move up, they don't have a 3rd round pick, and I'm not sure a combination of the 4th or 5th round pick with their 1st rounder moves them up very much. Worse, I think the Bengals may be in a position where the 4th round pick will be counted on to play a lot, if not start. All things considered I'd be more interested in staying put at #18, selecting the best defenders available in each of the first two rounds, and limit all talk of moving up in the draft to trying to get back into the 3rd round. Kazkal
Plus mybe we can score extra 1st day for steinbach I would love Poz too, either one is fine by me. But man, that was a sick tackle. It was but I Like what poz could bring to use good tackler,a leader a good character guy with good football smarts...from what heard his knock is coverage though. schweinhart
I think the same could be said for Willis...the knock is coverage. Still, Willis is about as much of a tackling machine as has come out for awhile. The Bengals have to decide who they think is there MLB, though. It sure ain;t Brian Simmons and sure don't look like Odumb either. I got doubts Ahmad will be able to swing it either. He just don't drop back deep well enough and lacks the lateral speed to get where he needs to be.But if Willis' teammate Rory Johnson is still there in the 4th, the Bengals would get the quickest LB in the draft who is also a holy terror shooting gaps. For any other team than Ole Miss, Rory would have been the star MLB. He probably could've used another year to develop more but he's already all there. gbengals
From what I have been seeing from mock drafts is he is going anywhere from the 17th pick to the 20th pick. Based on that we do have a shot with the 18th pick. It could happen and I hope it does.

Their first and second combined might get them as high as 10th. As for trying to get back into the third...well, if they packaged all their day 2 picks, they would be worth the 27th pick in the third round, per the draft trade value chart. Probably not worth it. schweinhart
isen't rory undersized for mlb? He's definitely on the smaller side. I've seen him listed between 215 and 235 but eyeball wise I'd guess 225. Doubt he's got the frame to add a whole lot more either beyond say what Landon and Caleb weigh. But he makes up for it with sheer agression. He should be the fastest LB at the combine if he's invited, which would help on a team like the Bengals that relies on a lot of deeper drops from their MLB. Bobcat Bengal
Just get the best player available in the first round. That's all I care about.Pretty much any position except RB or QB.But if Willis' teammate Rory Johnson is still there in the 4th, the Bengals would get the quickest LB in the draft who is also a holy terror shooting gaps. schweinhart
Mybe WLB then on passing downs MLB?I doubt Rory can get the depth of drop Landon can nor defend receivers as well because of his squat build and short arms. He did play weakside at Ole Miss but his strength was at the point -- a brutal attacker. MLB on passing downs would be more like. You mentioned Tulloch elsewhere and that's who Rory resembles.Ameer Ismail -- the Egyptian Magician -- is another interesting Day 2 type LB. I'm watching him drop a lot back into coverage even though he's the NCAA sack leader this year and don't think he's quite quick enough to close in bracket coverage or react fast enough in short zone but he's not exactly slow either. He's pretty physical in trash and has good instincts to get off O-linemen blocks without getting walled or pinned. He's an interesting player who looks like he's best suited as short area coverage OLB in a 3-4 who can also play hell in blitz schemes. He's got enough skills though to get consideration as a versatile 4-3 LB backup who could do damage in blitz packages off that base.
Kazkal
Think timmons could make a 4-3 MLB if we find Brooks be better suited for strong?
schweinhart
Think timmons could make a 4-3 MLB if we find Brooks be better suited for strong?Timmons is the 1 LB in this draft who has got the potential to play any LB position in either base. But it's potential and how high a team is willing to go for that remains to be seen. But I would say Timmons can play MLB in a 4-3 but probably not for awhile. I don't think there's any question that Brooks is suited for strong in the short term and maybe longer. But he's an amazing athlete who apparently wants to play middle. That's great, if he can improve his coverage and lateral speed. That would mean losing some more weight IMO. To me Brooks is a lot like Willis as a MLB candidate and since they already got Brooks, I'd say they pass on Willis unless they commit Brooks to the strongside and/or Caleb Miller gets signed by another team as a RFA before the draft. Another factor in the MLB situation is AJ Nicholson, who does have enough of the coverage skills and lateral speed to play MLB IMO. Ideally, though, Brooks should be the SSLB and rush down like Pollack did and he himself did at times in college in a 3-4 and the Bengals should commit to another option at MLB besides Brian Simmons. Caleb Miller impressed me a lot there this year until he get yanked.BUt I still doubt that positionally MLB will rate higher for the Bengals than CB or DE and that Willis will be the BPA when the Bengals pick.
