kentjett Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 This guy has been our best defensive player this year and he is only 23 years old. He hardly ever gives up his corner which is a defensive ends number one goal. Justin Smith is a hustler but he over pursues a lot, giving up his corner. We will not be able to sign both but we can replace Smith. Geathers is far more important to our defense. Geathers is getting a little recognition from ESPN.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...&id=2698476 Quote
Kazkal Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 I would like to see us sign Geathers long term, some people say he should only be a DE comes in on passing downs I call BS...his soph season he gets knocks for he was playing DT on almost every passing down. Quote

This might have been true once, but this year he's been solid against the run. He's also learned to read and string out runs to the outside.Question: is he getting doubles yet really? Currently, he has the luxury of playing opposite Justin, who's having a good year as well. But if you extrapolate his development so far in three years (ignoring the idiotic DT debacle), he could be a fantastic player. Kazkal Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 I'd perfer we keep him and just and just work on upgrading DT postion minus gaines adams falling to us =) Quote
HoosierCat Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Re-sign Geathers? Definitely. Our No. 1 goal? Hmmm...no. Geathers is an RFA. He will undoubtedly get the top tender offer, meaning that we retain the right to match any offer sheet he signs, and if we don't we get 1st and 3rd round picks from the signing team. I wouldn't complain at all about a signing, and it's likely to be cheaper if done sooner rather than later, but I'm more concerned about several UFAs, including K2, Reggie Kelly, Scott Kooistra (esp. if Steiny walks), one of the Doug Johnson/Anthony Wright backup QBs, and definitely Kenny Watson.
