Dantonio leaves UC

I think this is a tremendous loss for UC, although i have become convinced that no one can pull UC's attendance up over 30,000. UC will never be able to compete with the Bengals and high school football.

I cant blame Dantonio for bolting to Mich St. You dont have to beg people to come to games up there.

It's a shame. But with UC finally in a good conference and little bits of success here and there, I think the program will catch some steam eventually.

I think they'll be alright... in a conference with WVU and UL, the best they can do is a small bowl game.

I do feel bad for the players he recruited though. I'm not a UC fan... but Dantonio was a hell of a coach. I'm sure that some of the players that are there now went there instead of someplace else only because he was the coach that recruited them.

He deserves a right to go coach for a bigger school. Good coaches have to take those chances, because there will be a time when those chances are gone... but I think sometimes the kids are the ones that take the biggest hit when these kinds of things happen. I think the NCAA should make some exceptions on the 1-year penalty to transfer.

If a kid came to UC to play for Dantonio, he should be permitted to follow him to Michigan State if he's good enough that they want him. That's probably opening pandora's box... but I do feel bad for those kids.

I do feel bad for the players he recruited though. I'm not a UC fan... but Dantonio was a hell of a coach. I'm sure that some of the players that are there now went there instead of someplace else only because he was the coach that recruited them.

In case nobody has been paying attention, Dantonio has taken EVERY SINGLE ASSISTANT COACH w/ him. The only exception is his defensive co-ordinator, who is the interim coach for 1 more week - then has basically told UC he needs to know if he'll be the permanant coach or he's gone to MSU as well .

The UC Football Bearcats played the toughest schedule in college ball this year (5 top 10 teams), are bowl eligible, and won't have one FREAKING COACH TO RUN A PRACTICE. It's a travesty.

Well... that's part of it. But like I said, I don't feel that bad for the program... just the kids. These kinds of stories happen all the time. I just wish the NCAA would find a way from keeping the kids from being the ones who suffer the penalty.

Like it or not... Dantonio has a right to go coach at another school if they offer him a job. He's a great coach, and UC got in over their heads when they hired him. It was only going to be a matter of time before he got a position that he deserved. I don't fault Dantonio for leaving... but I do feel bad for the kids he recruited.
