Tasher
At some point the coaching is not to blame. It did not look to me at the game on Sunday that this team is poorly coached at any level.C.P. fumbles opening kickoff. Fumbles are very uncharacteristic of this team and have been for a number of years and continue to be this year.C.P. (overthrows or whatever, but Chad should have caught that ball) gets intercepted on the first pass of the very next series after we get the ball back.Defense in total allows ONE TD on a 34 yard field and 12 points the entire rest of the game. Sounds like pretty good defense to me. Yes we have our problems vs the TEs and on Third Downs, and this needs to be addressed.PLAYERS put it together ON the FIELD, they need to step up and be accountable and responsible. It needs to start at the opening kick and not in the 4th qtr. And certainly not AFTER the game is over.
HoosierCat
At some point the coaching is not to blame. It did not look to me at the game on Sunday that this team is poorly coached at any level. The only place I can fault coaching is that this team doesn't appear to have learned how to lose.We used to talk a lot about how this team had to learn how to win, and over the last couple of years they have done that. But you also have to learn how to deal with losing, and that IMHO is even hardr. And it should be. These guys are, after all, among the top athletes in their sport; they ought to be upset by losing. Which is why I haven't been critical of Rudi or Chad the last few weeks calling for the ball, or the general amount of b*tching and frustration comments by guys like Willie and TJ reflect. That tells me that they are, at least, upset with the L's. I watched too many Bengals teams of the Nineties who weren't upset by losing. Ho-hum, we lost, what else is new, where's my paycheck, see you next Sunday for another beating.I dont see that, thankfully. But the challenge now is for Marvin & Co. to channel the losses into something constructive, not destructive. And contrary to what appears to be the popular opinion in some circles, he's hardly ignored that challenge. Thats what the whole bit (among others) about the shovel is all about. Focus. Put your frustration into your work. Above all, you keep digging and let me (Marvin) worry about everyone else's hole. The danger right now is that all the injuries have pushed the talent level down to where we have guys who just aren't capable of "digging" at a pro level, and as a result too many of the guys who are, are losing their focus. The problem is particularly acute on the offense, where it seems to me that: Carson is losing faith in his receivers' willingness to go the extra mile and lay it all out for a catch; the wideouts are losing faith in Carson's ability to consistently deliver the ball on target (thus requiring them to expose themselves all the time); and neither the QB nor the WR have any faith in the o-line giving Carson time to get anything done. That creates a situation where the play on the field undermines the coaching message. What Marvin needs badly on Sunday is a win to build on. If they fall to SD, I think the season stands a good chance of becoming a rout.
