chrishcovga
April 5th, 2004.- The Day that could live up to an infamous one. Later this morning at an Ohio St. off-campus facility, troubled runningback ,and successful "David" to the NFL's and NCAA rules' committees' ,otherwise known as Maurice Clarett will have his official workout for NFL scouts, as he tries to prove he is as athletic as the premier runners in the 2004 draft.- While Clarett's path to this workout will most notably be remembered more than the workout itself, He will have the chance to finally prove he is physically ready to play in the NFL.* Back at the February combine, scouts and GM's were severely dissappointed that Clarett didn't workout; even looking slovenly .He was measured and weighed ,and even interviewed by several teams, but his 5'11 and 237 lb. frame looked more like he was ready to block the next person in line at the "Sizzler" than a charging linebacker.* My personal take - Maurice Clarett, will probably show up weighing about 225 - 228 lbs. He'll probably run close to 4.47- mid 4.5's. His agility drills will look good, and he'll show he's a better receiver than most scouts thought. What will that do to his draft status .?? NOT MUCH. There are too many viable options in the first and second rounds that Clarett still will only be a 3rd rounder at best. - His off the field troubles , and questionable work ethic, are enough for him to be drafted simply on athletic ability alone , and not the necessary intangibles that separated good athletes from elite ones. ** To note : Drew Carter the Ohio St. wide receiver will work out as well, and try to improve his draft status. If healthy , he currently holds an early second day selection, If his workouts aren't impressive , he may not be drafted at all.U.S.C. - wide out Mike Williams ( rumored to be in tremendous shape for his upcoming workout on thursday April 8th.)The Goals' set by his strength and conditioning coach will be for Mike Williams to weigh about 225, and run in the low 4.5's. - One NFL scout said, if he runs around 4.53 ' it will most assuredly make him a top 5 selection . AGrizzlyBaer
if williams run a 4.5 might push him ahead of Larry on many draft boards
UCANTBEATOURJOHNSONS
Neither Clarrett nor Williams will be drafted this year on draft day. The appelate court will rule just before the draft that the NFL has every right to restrict it's applicants based upon experience, and saying that they must be out of high school for a minimum of 3 years is simply that, requiring experience to apply. chrishcovga
I'll wait to see the judgement to believe that.. The nfl's bias towards Maurice Clarett is one thing, but Mike Williams is the opposite of Clarett. He's got the proven talent, and maturity to be a top 10 selection.-- A ruling against could open the NFL to some serious litigation ,because they would be stopping M.Williams from possibly cashing in on 30+ million. A ruling by the court won't open the NFL up to litigation. They aren't stopping Williams from doing anything. The fact is, he chose to hire an agent before he knew if he was really eligible for the draft. The smart thing to do would have been to declare for the draft and hire an attorney and not an agent.Besides, Williams is going to be able to cash in and make that money next year. EdwardG
I saw on a Bucknuts message board that Clarett ran a 4.6 while Gamble repeated a 4.5. Believe it at your own risk.

EdwardG
Ohio State ResultsIt looks like Gamble looked much the same as his last workout. Clarett ran about a 4.6, which probably won't help his draft status. Carter also worked out and ran a 4.4.

chrishcovga
Actually Gamble didn't impress anyone. For his workout, his '40 times weren't any better than before. Even clocking in the 4.6's on one stopwatch.- Cincy' might have to trade down, but let's keep our fingers crossed !.

chrishcovga
I doubt he'll fall that far, For one, Saints, Seahawks,Chiefs,Panthers,Colts, and Eagles could all look to go corner in round 1. Somebody will take a shot at him if not us !
AGrizzlyBaer
but after those workouts he really hurt his stock

If the NFL wins that case, then the NCAA had better let those guys return to their teams, because of the special circumstances regarding their situations.
