Jordan Palmer

Palmer is on a team that is frequently overmatched talent-wise... I can understand all the interceptions. I haven't seen any of the games though, so I can't say if they're more the result of poor decision making or receivers failing to get open consistently.

Yeah, it seemed like UTEP was on ESPN every other week last year. They're not scheduled to play nationwide until October 27 -- a Friday -- on ESPN 2 at 8 vs. Tulsa. And Tulsa has a solid secondary (Nick Graham CB #22, Bobby Blackshire FS #4, Kedrick Alexander SS #2) and good coverage backer (Nick Bunting #41). They'll give Jordan a good test.

The pick ratio is gonna lead to the same rap as last year but he's a gunslinger like his bro so he'll tempt fate downfield and try to thread the needle. He's still got a NFL-caliber receiver this year in Johnnie Lee Higgins to throw to. The main thing for him is to stay healthy and show that he's unquestionably all the way back from his knee injury, which he's doing. It wiouldn't hurt him come draft day, though, if he shows from here on out that he can reduce the picks.

Schweinhart, your knowledge of the personell on college football teams is rediculous!

How on Earth can you know the full name and number of Tulsa's free safety?

Good stuff, though.

I get all the #s off the roster pages of aol.scoreboard. Not 100% correct, though, but good enough. But I also watched Tulsa play Southern Miss where if you would like to know the Tulsa free safety showed decent coverage ability staying step-for-step in man with a WR on a CB blitz and also looked like a demon gunner on punts.

After watching the Tulsa secondary, I really like the idea of watching Jordan have to go up against it. None of the Tulsa DBs are more than Day 2 prospects at best most likely but they are fairly skilled college players and should give a good test of Jordan's ability to read and avoid picks.

What were cutlers numbers his senior year? he was on bad team facing good and still went 1st rnd.

Cutler is just an ungodly QB. I've never seen a college QB get assaulted like he did and not blink w/o losing accuracy or nerve. I don't think he got drafted high enough, but time will tell once Denver is done with Jake.

Cutler should have been a brown or texan ;) with their olines he be set.

OMFG Jordan had a game without interceptions! can we say 1st overall of 2007 =)

I thing that Jordan does do good on his cmp% he's 69.9 for the season.

Now if he can not throw a single interception for the rest of the season....

He's definitely not ready to step in for a NFL team and start but not many QBs are. But his skills are all in place for development quickly as a #2 who could step in. The pressure he faced vs. a very good Tulsa team was heavy and he got whacked every other throw. Tulsa also got a solid secondary which gave a good look at watching him get forced into progressions. He got smacked in the chops w/o almost no time to throw on the the cross to Higgins that got picked and that's the kind of ball he's got to eat for a sack. He almost had another pick later when he didn't see the LB shift coverage. The 69 TD throw was probably his worst throw of the game because it was about 10 yards underthrown and if not for a WR as quick and skilled as Johnnie Lee Higgins, that probably gets picked. And he missed a TD to Higgins on a floater that had enough air under it to allow Kedrick Alexander the time to knock the ball out of Higgins hands in the end zone.

But aside from the point by point on his throws, Palmer has got the physical tools and enough experience that teams looking for a #2 to develop should look at. He flat out can make all the throws on the field and has the height and vision that teams will look for in a pocket passer, plus he's got some mobility and adequately throws on the run on designed rollouts or when flushed. I'd put him as the 5th QB in this draft after Stanton. That should between rounds 2 and 4.

Man, does he look soooo much like Carson(physically, i mean, same face)

He's a definite gunslinger, and that seems to get him in some trouble. His O line isn't very good either, at least they weren't last night. I agree with Sweiny, he'll probably go about the fourth, and in thie right system could probably shine. Give him a good running game, and then go vertical off the play fake.

You can tell that Carson got the majority of the talent in that famiy, though B)

Gunslinger Jr. gets some more TV time tonight at 8 on ESPN 2. Won't be against the quality secondary he had to go against last time in Tulsa but should get a lot more pressure in this one from the UAB D-line in the likes of DE Larry McSwain #44, David Miller #46 and RDT/NG Adrian Haywood #60.

If Jordan gets the time, you can bet WR Johnnie Lee Higgins #21 will light up the scoreboard.

Thanks for the heads up, Schweiny. Palmer looked great tonight...Well over 400 yards, 4 TDs, no picks. He faced heavy pressure on multiple occassions too, just like his brother.

How about the Bengals pickup Johnny Lee Higgins to return punts? :D

Only caught the 1st half but dayum.....Gunslinger Jr. has got all the tools to be a bigtime QB. It has helped him too to have a WR as liquid quick and footspeed fast as Higgins to have practiced timing out with for the last 3 years because other WRs he has to throw to in the pros won't seem so fast. But the best thing to have happened to him has to have been Mike Price's inability to lay off the booze and cheap hookers.

No question Higgins is a force returning kicks. He's also an excellent receiver but the only thing there that might hold him back is he's slight of frame and not a tall target by any stretch. He still should be picked somewhere in the 2nd half of Day 1 IMO.

Good thing though Jordan didn't have to withstand any pressure from Adrian Haywood. I was looking forward to watching his push from the middle until I remembered he plays for SMU who UAB played last week. These things happen. But McSwain is a pretty interesting prospect but he's going to get tweenered. He might be a Day 2 swipe ala Mark Anderson.
