oldschooler
By the looks of these pics, maybe the fine did justify what could have possibly been avoided. There's a good 4-5 yards between green and geathers in the first pic, showing green going into a slidding motion, and I believe that Geathers at that point had every intention of smearing Green. Geathers may have been able to "let up" a little, although kennison's blocking in the back (which didn't get called) also added to the velocity of the hit. If the hit would have been on Palmer I'm sure that we would be just as pissed and would want some course of action to take place, whether it be a fine or suspension. I can't imagine a suspension coming out of a late hit but you never know. The quarterback is the most important guy on the field and he needs to be protected as much as possible, it's better for the game. Yeah it's exciting as hell to see a big hit on the QB, but it's gotta be 100% clean in my book. You do realize that things are different in full speed right ?Just because Geathers was 4 or 5 yards away, doesn`t mean he could have stoppedhis momentum. Ecspecially when you consider he had someone on his back, helpinghim gain momentum.Plus, look at the position Geathers is already in. It wasn`t so much of a hit, as it wasa collision. To expect Geathers to keep from running into Green, would be like expectingyour car to stop instantly, at 60 mph. The laws of physics just won`t allow it...When Thurman went low on Big Ben I was mad as hell at himYou should have been mad as hell at the person who tripped him into Big Ben, but I get what you are saying here...WHODEY !!!That`s what I was going to say. Beat me to it.WHODEY !!!!

ckj414
This whole thing though is really bulls**t b/c when Kimo went low on Palmer he should have got penalized. This just makes me believe even more that your guys from the Big cities (New York, Boston, Philly, Los Angelos, and Chicago) absolutely hate cincinnati, mostly b/c of the Reds beating New York and Boston all those years. Paranoid much?

HairOnFire
Plus, look at the position Geathers is already in. It wasn`t so much of a hit, as it wasa collision. I froze a replay at the exact moment that it becomes clear that Green isn't making a cut and has begun to slide. Geathers is already well into a foreward leaning position that he could never recover from, and the WR blocking from the side has just started to fall away from his body. From this point in the action Geathers takes zero steps towards Green. Fine or no fine, my only reamining concern is that the reaction to the hit doesn't change Geathers newly found aggressive demeanor. I have remarked previously that Geathers seems like a transformed player this season and that opinion is based far more on his new swagger and confident body language...not on his lighter build and better speed. agreen_112
nice to meet you sir, but back to the topic... Whether it was late or not, I'm loving the new and improved Geathers. If they want to dub him as the "assassin" I think it would be fitting because he's going to be putting some big hits on guys this year. The guy is a freaking monster!Trip or no trip it was still bad Karma, just ask a steeler fan that. They all agree that it was a dirty hit. I'm not siding with them, but when I was watching the game to me it looked like he went low.

PSChris Mortenson reports on ESPN Insider that there will not be a fine for the hitBrad Johansen called into Pic (HOMER Radio personality) to indicate the WKRC.COM report appears to have jumped the gun, based on what he was told by the NFL last night.http://www.lance1530homer.com/blog.asptrip? He looked like a flying torpedo.I remember one of the Steelers lineman actually admitting to tripping him after the game, too.You are correct. But Steelers center Jeff Hartings says he accidentally tripped Thurman, and that may have caused last Sunday's hit. Thurman got a a 15-yard penalty for roughing the passer.http://www.wkrc.com/bengalsnation/story.as...8A-F70030203003

I never seen the replay and by seeing the one above I can see the trip by the center. The thing about it though is that steelers fans that don't read the boards or watch much highlights still see it as us being the ones who acted first and the shot to palmer was "payback". I swear to god this is how some of them think, one including my grandfather in-law. Last year after the SB I went to visit the in-laws which are about 100 miles east of pittsburgh and had a talk with papa about the game. I said you know that by Palmer getting hit and taken out of the game that cost us the game and his exact words were "You guys did it first". I felt like slapping the old f**ker right in the mouth, lol.
