Kazkal
Well in terms of style Tab seems more Tight Endish than KW - see him running 15 yards with no helmet on the other day?.think i missed that need a clip
derekshank
If Joseph moves on to take Tory's place at some point this year, I have to wonder what would happen at nickel or dime... Tory would probably play nickel and Ratliff wouldn't move, but that's a lot of slow in the slot.Tory would actually be great in the slot. Maybe one of the best. He's got good size and long arms. These are the things he uses to his advantage that have kept him from losing ihs starting job already. As a nickle, he'd be able to use them perfectly against slower slot receivers (as they are generally possession WR's) and TE's. Not to mention that he's a good blitzing CB. aaronburr
Why don't the Bengals just fatten up Kelly Washington and move him to TE? He can catch they already know but maybe if they fatten him he could block too. Another thing they could do is go with only 2 QB's this year like some other teams do, to hold onto more young players.K-dub would have to agree to the whole "fatten me up" thing, and I know I wouldn't if were him. The coaches are completely fine with the TE corps though, and don't see the same hole that fans see. Reggie Kelly is a great blocker, and that's all they want.I agree. Even if they want to line up a WR at TE every once in a while, there's really no need for them to "fatten up". They wouldn't be in there for heavy-duty blocking, so just make sure their blocking technique is sound and free up that 3rd TE spot on the roster.Reggie's obviously earned his spot, and Tony Stewart should be well-versed in the playbook, but other than that, which TE has really demonstrated they're worth more than say, Kilmer, McNeal or Nicholson? TJJackson
Not sure Nicholson or McNeal have showed any worth yet. Potential, yes. Worth, no.
aaronburr
Not sure Nicholson or McNeal have showed any worth yet. Potential, yes. Worth, no.Forgive me for not choosing my words more carefully. Since I was talking about the last few spots on the roster, I meant to suggest that the team will have to choose between the "worth" of an undrafted, 3rd string TE who probably won't play much, and the "potential" of a few players who were drafted specifically for their capacity to be "impact" players in the future. Though, if you want to get specific, I see Nicholson's "value" in being depth that would allow a shift to the 3-4 (the new alignment would have the impact, not the individual player), and Kilmer as a specialist that can only be afforded by teams that already have good depth to begin with. You don't draft Kilmer because you need an extra safety. In a sense, I'm suggesting that guys like Nicholson, Kilmer and McNeal are a luxury that a good team can afford to gamble on, since they don't need to hold spots open for guys like Ronnie Ghent, Hannibal Navies or Kelley Washington. Kirkendall
I really do believe they are holding on to Ratliff because they have no intention of keep Tory beyond this year. He's just too pricey for a guy who is quickly aging... and they don't want to have to use another draft pick on a CB, and spend another year breaking in a rookie to use as an important role player on defense. Ratliff will be here as our nickle next year. I know some people here don't care for him... but it's not as if he got beat out by a bunch of scrubs. Tory and Deltha are very recent pro-bowlers, and Joseph is a 1st round draft pick. Ratliff will never be a shut-down corner, but he's more than capable as our eventual nickle back.Yeah, I can buy that.I second that. Ratliff's final season is 2007 -- he's making relatively cheap dough ($356,667, $822,267 against the cap in '07). I wouldn't mind getting him back for those numbers -- honestly, with O'Neal signed through 2008 and Joseph through 2010, we're good.

Bengals penalty offset a facemask. Defender grabbed mask as he flew by in a pass in the flat almost pulled his head off. Tab-ster shakes it off and sprints down the sideline and doesnt go OOB till he was pushed out. Tuff Guy.Don't know if there is a clip of it, since it was called back. chrishcovga
Hard to see where the " Keiwan doesn't really have a spot " talk comes from. He was easily the best defender in the intrasquad game. He's been a playmaker in the preseason. And figuring in the age of Tory James and the fact that his contract is up next season, you gotta figure, Ratliff would inherit the Nickel job regardless of Joseph starting across from O'Neal.Still hard for me to see Kevin Kaesviharn on this roster. I never liked the guy and his tackling and spotty play are horrendous. Anthony Mitchell healthy or not offers no real coverage play other than special teams.I hope I'm not asking too much, to have backups that can start and play well on special teams. Oh well, read the signature.

walshfan
Ratliff isnt going anywhere this year...If Tory goes down J-Joe moves to his position and Ratliff will be the nickleback..I dont care what the media says about KK being the 6th back.Im not buying it ...Id rather see Ratliff covering a widout than KK...KK can be used as a saftey if need be... I think KK is gone after this season anyway..
