BZBot
It is only pre-season but there appears to be a trend brewing with the defense. Neurosis! Could this be another year of a neurotic run stopping defense? Or adding a big name run stopper the answer to the defensive woe’s? Stripes
I think we'll stop the run. The DT rotation has improved so much, and the young linebackers have only gotten a year better. The pass rush is my only worry on defense.
cincy9275
i think that this defense has improve alot as to where they were last season . it is hard to tell because we have not had our full complement of starter on defense play this preseason yet . ArmyBengal
This is the first year in forever I think the defense has a good chance to actually stop the run. The addition of Big Sam still remains to be seen and I think he will be an improvement, but think more importantly, a healthy Madieu and the addition of Jackson at safety will be huge, especially in a pass rush. Overall, the unit as a whole will be better and I for one am looking forward to seeing it this year regardless of the difficulty in schedule...WHODEY !!! schweinhart
Too many big plays to the Bills has got to raise a cloud. Deltha got burnt inside by Evans, the entire right side of the Bengals D (Landon, Jeanty and James) got either walled or pinned and even Madieu whiffed on the McGoohoo TD run and Keiwan got ex-laxed deep once again. They got to bottle up the big plays for early W's while Carson gets back into the swing. But the run D should look a lot better interior wise. Big Sam will just boost the strong play that Shaun Smith and Peko have shown and probably help Thornton be more productive inside. Their problems gonna be contain when they start going up against quicker cutback backs. Justin is a monster in pursuit but he'll have his work cut out for him trying to track down the likes of Reggie Bush, Deangelo Williams, Cadillac, LT, etc.
DRJAYJR
I think we'll stop the run. The DT rotation has improved so much, and the young linebackers have only gotten a year better. The pass rush is my only worry on defense.I argee. With the stellar secondary we have that should help the pass rush. A good rush will help your secondary look good and a good secondary will help your rushers look good. That plus the fact that Justin Smith should have a break out year due to it being a contract year and the addition of big Sam should help free him up some. I don't want to make it seem as though I think Sam Adams is the answer to all our problems but, on the Mc Gahee long run Sam would have eatin up two blockers, even if Medieu misses the tackle he will have no lane to cut back to, a linebacker that was blocked on the play would have never been blocked do to Sam taking on two. 10 yard run at best in this senerio. jditty47
we'll find out monday night vs the packers...unfortunately oneal wont be in on defense but our line will be intact and joseph and ratliff we'll be able to see more out of to see who gets the nickle spot etc.
TippCityRick
Still concerned about pass rush and giving up big pass plays due to selling out for turnovers. That said I believe we're taking steps in the right direction.
