first time poster, long-time reader here. my allegiance stretches back to the day turk schonart came off the bench in '81 to lead the bengals on a second-half comeback against the seahawks in their home opener, which set the stage for their run to the super bowl. let's hope, a quarter-century later, for some of that same magic...

He was talking about wide receiver Bennie Brazell, the Bengals' second pick in the seventh round. The Bengals think they have a good one in the former U.S. Olympic team hurdler who played football only part-time at LSU. Brazell has plenty to learn but he has impressed with his grit as well as his ability to zip by corners. Which is why, less than a week into training camp, Lewis is talking about the 231st overall selection as if he has already made the team.

~Sounds like hes the next TJ ;)

I'm starting to get a bit worried about Sam Adams being unable to get in any reps with the squad...sure, he is a savy vet who has lots of experience but when you can't even plays some snaps, what should we think?

RB depth is also mentioned...Rudi has been a rock but with Perry hurting (again) is the answer Quincy Wilson????

r7Bennie is sounding like a real steal...

"But hearing Marvin Lewis talk about how he thought the offense was "too cute," it sounds like the run-pass ratio might level out some this year. If you're thinking about taking Rudi Johnson, keep thinking that way.

Rrrrrrruuuuuuddddddiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!

Hmmm. It was cute allright...cute as in touchdowns! I don't see the problem. It wasn't gimmicky, just effective.

I'd worry about Rudi taking more carries than he already is. If they run more I'd expect it to be Perry some, if they can get him on the field. I believe that guy could twist an ankle tripping over the sideline.

Maybe Marvin was referring to the third/fourth and shorts where we ran sweeps, or were a little "cute" with our play calling instead of smacking the other team in the mouth? Those were the only times I remember getting "cute".

Probably that yet another attempt to shore up the d-line with a cheap aging vet DT isn't going to work...again. But it's a bit early to say that. After all, showing up at camp looking like the Goodyear blimp's poppa is par for the course for these guys. Up in Minny, the Vikes put Sam's former linemate Pat Williams on PUP because he showed up fat and out of shape. And remember Corey Simon last season? I saw him way early in the season, in that white Colts uniform, and he looked like the freaking Pillsbury doughboy. By playoff time he looked like Thornton. So we'll see with Sam.

Really, tho, if the d-line is going to make any serious improvements, we need some of these young late round picks and waiver wire types to step it up. I'm especially interested in Shaun Smith, who according to the Enquirer has slimmed down to about 312 from last year's 335.

I wouldn't worry about our backfield in the least. Rudi, Perry (healthy or not) Watson, and BIG Quincy are more than adequate for our offensive needs in my mind...

Bennie is going to be good if he can learn the routes quick enough and will be VERY good in time. Never saw anything about him playing corner, has he ever played the position ?? Can't see him making the team that way AT ALL !!!

Hearing that Joseph ran stride for stride doesn't suprise me in the least, as he is stupid fast. I remember people talking about Weathersby doing the same, so lets hope this story has a better football ending !!!

Oh yeah, this just in... Jerseys for coaches are still GAY !!!

WHODEY !!!

As long as rudi is healthy and continues to break his own rushing records, our backfield will be just fine.

As for sam adams, it worries me that he isn't getting reps, but i think this is one that we will just have to trust marvin on and hope for the best.

The Sam Adams thing worries me a bit too. However I just read a quote that he said if he finds conditioning coach Rock Oliver in a dark alley I'm grabbing a ski mask and whipping his butt. So that makes me feel a little better, if they are working him so hard he wants to kick someone's butt over it he will be in tip top shape soon. Well as tip top as someone of his size is going to be.
