Bengalbob
According to the site:"Also, Lewis wasn’t pleased with the absence of Odell Thurman, the middle linebacker suspended for the first four games of the season because of a violation of the substance abuse policy but is eligible to practice during training camp. Lewis expected Thurman Saturday, but said he was delayed by family problems and hinted that he’s viewing his status with year-long ramifications."http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5356

ML needs to cut Henry & show everyone else that they'll get cut too if they dont quit there $h&+! Maybe he'll make a bigger statement and cut Thurman. Afterall... Thurman is just one missed test away from missing an entire season. Why in hell, after all the crap he's putting the team through, would he not show up? If it were me, I'd do whatever it took to show Marvin taht even though I screwed up, I'm still dedicated to this team.

If family stuff happens, then you have to take care of it... but the family card has been played a lot in the last month or so, and the only thing that has come out has been a 4 game suspension. I somehow doubt Marvin would be upset if there was a family related issue that desperately needed his attention.

Read some and such... But not much.. More into baseball right now... So I didn't know Thurman has used the Faimly Card before today? andybren
Family is family guys. But Odell's part of that family, too. And I would suspect, the biggest earner in that family. Sounds to me like somebody in that family needs to step up and take care of Odell. If not because he's family, because he's 1 piss test away from losing a year's salary.Aside from Grandma's funeral is there really any excuse for not being there on time? Didn't he have enough time between January and July to take care of family business?Do your job, Odell. Even Chris Henry made it to work on time. So I didn't know Thurman has used the Faimly Card before today?Odell used the "personal matters" card. Which roughly translatted into "doing rehab prior to being suspended by the league".Point is, he should not be drawing any more negative attention to himself. In any way. Stripes
I have more irritation directed Odell's way than Henry's way from a Bengals fan standpoint. He better get his butt in gear, or he could end up missing more time than anyone wants him to miss.
HoTbOy
He may be suspended for the 1st 4 games, but he can still practice with the team, and after the whole offseason business you would expect OThurman to be one of the 1st Bengals in camp...if his excuse is legit about personal/family reason then what can you say, but if he is not being straight up then you have to do something, what that something would be I don't know...but don't make a bad situation worse, by not showing up to camp... cincy90
In the article Marvin said he was looking for someone to play the middle for the year. Doesn't sound too promising for Thurman. I'm looking for Brooks to get into the action. Lance McAllister's Bengals Insider said that he is by far the best LB to come out of the draft in 3 years, and said that he would be in the running for defensive rookie of the year. bengalboomer7
Things are not looking good and this is getting weird THURMAN DONE WITH FOOTBALL?As a torrent of rumor and innuendo continues to swirl around Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman, we're getting the distinct impression that the kid might never play football again. At a bare minimum, he's not likely (in our opinion) to play this season.Thurman already has been suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the substance abuse policy, and based on some of the things we've heard we think the penalty could have been more severe. Because the obligation to submit to testing continues, it still could be.And as further evidence to support our belief that coach Marvin Lewis is reaching (or beyond) the breaking point regarding the actions -- and ensuing scrutiny of -- his in-house butthole patrol, Lewis offered a string of contradictory sound bites on Saturday when asked about the failure of Thurman to report for training camp."It's a non-factor. We expect him here. If you want to be in charge of him you're welcome,” Lewis said. “He's dealing with some things with his family and they'd asked if he was allowed to do this. There's no pressing need for him to be here." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sure you can understand this once you see that we often have Steeler Trolls that come on here and say things like "Palmer's Career Over according to a news source" or "Chad Johnson to be suspended for a year for drug use" or "Deltha Oneal arrested for molesting a field of cows"...so I think you can now understand why your thread was closed. Once again I am sure it was nothing personal.
BengalChamps
Couple of weeks ago i started a thread about Richard Skinner reporting that Odell might be out all year. Skinner might know what he was talking about. So what is the truth about Odell? Why are journalist in town not reporting what they know about Odell? Why are they keeping it a secret? cincy9275
from reading what marvin has said and the drafting of brooks and nicholson . to me it seems there is way more going on with odell than what we know and this may be his last days as a bengal . i would like to see him in camp and be a man and do what he needs to do to get back on the field . if not let's cut our loses and move on . man i hope he gets whatever it is bothering him straighten out because i was real high on him
BengalPappaw
I like Brooks as our MLB in the 4-3. Brooks has more speed and size. I'm not sure that Brooks has Thurman's instincts for being in the right place for turn overs, but I like Brooks' athletic ability.IF Thurman comes back, I really like the idea of Thurman and Brooks in the middle in a 3-4.Back to Marvin's comments -- the one that really told me that there is a problem is when Marvin offered to let the reporters try and handle Thurman.
